"The contemporary artist is dewy eyed over dreams of iconoclasm, and the fame around eccentricity. He will suspend dissected cattle carcasses in formaldehyde. Perhaps a crucifix submerged in urine, or maybe silly and vague performances are the modes of his message. Even the most benign of contemporary works fall short of being anything but vestigial. The previous examples do not offend me; they should exist; yet they are a disservice to culture because people see them to be the status of present-day art."
