    • What world flags represent

An Argentine blog has used the colors on flags to represent disparities within each of these countries. I think they are pretty poignant.

    • Computer models of staggering drunks, helps city planning

"A team of Welsh scientists have spent long nights camped out in a busy nightlife neighborhood of Cardiff from 11pm to 3am with one goal—studying the way Welshmen stagger when they're shitfaced in order to build an accurate computer model of the phenomenon. They aim to use their data to help city planners design streets that are safer for late night revelers."

You have to check out the moving charts.

    • Sigur Ros's 5th album brings new sound, new success

með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust has been selling well worldwide, placing in the following chart positions in its first week of release: #5 in the uk, #15 in usa, #1 in iceland.

the album title is translated into english as "with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly" with the english spelling of the icelandic album title being "med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust"

one track "ára bátur" is the largest musical undertaking in the band's career, as it was recorded live in one take with the london sinfonietta and london oratory boy"s choir, a total of 90 people playing at the same time.

      - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I remember in Fall 2002, when I bought "( )" aka the parentheses album, just because I thought the packaging looked cool. Sigur Ros has changed my entire perspective on music, they are my favorite band.

    • Bicycles pedaling into the spotlight

If you like what I like reading often math, bikes and charts, this is for you. Not only do I love pedaling, I enjoy reading production, timelines and what various cities are doing with wealth, infrastructure and initiative (or not).

"A number of European cities have set the standard for bicycle use and promotion, via pro-bike transportation and land use policies, as well as heavy funding for bicycle infrastructure and public education. In Copenhagen, for example, 36 percent of commuters bike to work.

While biking remains popular for recreation in the United States, it is woefully underused for transportation. Total cycling participation has declined nationally since 1960, dropping 32 percent since the early 1990s, and now accounts for just 0.9 percent of all trips. Cycling to work is even less frequent, at 0.4 percent of trips.

While the bicycle is still an essential form of transportation in China, the country has recently seen a rapid decrease in bike ownership as its population becomes wealthier and turns to cars."

    • Peace out Elvis; Mariah Carey nabs 18th #1 single

Mariah Carey is at it again – No. 1, that is.

"Touch My Body," the singer's first single from her new album, E=MC2, went straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

The achievement marks Carey's 18th No. 1 single, surpassing Elvis Presley's record of 17. She is now poised to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 No. 1 singles.

"Touch My Body" also set a new record of 286,000 downloads its first week. Mariah is also only two singles away from tying The Beatles for the most #1 singles by any artist on the Billboard charts ever!

    • Music to your pooch's ears..

Who said modern music was a load of old tripe? Maybe the jokers who are planning to release a music single in the US and Australia that is only audible to dogs.

Ironically titled, 'A Very Silent Night' was a Christmas number one in New Zealand and has managed to raise just short of £9000 for NZ's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A great cause I hear you say, yes indeed, but not when some of the song's listeners have been going crazy - "The most violent one was a dog that physically attacked the radio when it was played and went quite berserk and totally destroyed it.

So, music for dogs is cool, music for dogs that makes them go 'berserk' - not so cool!
