    • Gore's Plan Gets Another Push During Olympics

Al Gore came to Washington in July to issue a challenge to the country: create a new energy economy that will generate 100 percent of America's electricity from clean sources within 10 years. Now the former vice president’s advocacy group, the Alliance for Climate Protection, has launched a new TV ad to spread the message to Olympics viewers.

The group debuted "Switch" (subscription) on NBC during Monday's coverage of the Games; the spot will continue to air on NBC and USA Network through next week.

As in the group's first TV ad, actor William H. Macy narrates and soothing music creates an upbeat tone to promote the group's message: "Together we can solve the climate crisis." Americans from different walks of life are shown coming together to help each other turn on giant light switches -- one in the desert, one in a field, one at a factory and one in the middle of a city.

Macy lays out some of the vast challenges facing the country: "a weaker economy, soaring gas prices, growing dependence on foreign oil and a worsening climate crisis." But, he says, "there’s a bold new solution for all of these challenges." He presents Gore's plan to create clean electricity as a way to combat both economic and national security threats. "All we need is your help," he says, encouraging viewers to "join the more than one million people who are already demanding we switch on a brighter future."

“The Olympics are a time for all Americans to reflect on our nation’s achievements and what we as a people can do together," Alliance for Climate Protection CEO Cathy Zoi said in a press release announcing the ad. "Choosing the right path and re-powering our nation is something we can do, and something that will benefit us all.”

For all the money the group is pouring into its public outreach effort, however, recent polling data suggests that Americans' attention is not squarely focused on climate change issues. With the election and economic problems occupying the media spotlight, the number of Americans who say they consider global warming an important issue to them personally has fallen 5 percentage points since 2007 to 47 percent.

    • Al Gore Won't Work For Clinton, Obama, or McCain Admininstration

Al Gore, in an interview with the Sun, said he will not be working, formally, in the next president's administration. Not for Hillary Clinton, not for Barack Obama, not for John McCain.

“I don’t intend to be a part of any administration,” he told the Sun. “I’ve been Vice President, I ran for President twice, so I don’t have any interest in being a cabinet member. I think my best use is in building grass-roots support. I will, of course, give advice to whoever asks me for advice on this and will work to help but not in a formal way.”

It's not much of a shock. Gore has grown so powerful as a campaigner for action to solve "the climate crisis," as he calls it, that he can have an audience with any world leader. He commands a far larger audience than any EPA administrator or energy secretary. In short, he's more powerful – and more likely to be effective – as is.

Right now, Gore's strategy includes a multimillion-dollar marketing campaign and an update to the famous slide show featured in An Inconvenient Truth.

    • Al Gore Campaign Applies Ads, Media for Grassroots Effort

The Alliance for Climate Protection is teaming with Al Gore on a new effort titled "We Campaign," which will use media outreach and advertising to drive initial interest. The $300-million campaign aims to build a grassroots movement to halt global warming, according to the communications team directing the launch.

The official kickoff was April 2, with the launch of print and television ads, as well as a new Web site, http://www.wecansolveit.org/. It was preceded by a 60 Minutes broadcast on March 30 , in which former Vice President Gore introduced the new project.

The show was Gore's first broadcast TV interview since winning the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2007.

An article in The Washington Post, as well as a press release issued the next day, helped to generate a flood of follow-on print, TV, and radio interest in the Alliance and campaign that "set the context" for the launch of the ads, said Brian Hardwick, director of communications for the Nashville, TN-based Alliance.

"We figured we had Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday to build context around the campaign, so that on Wednesday, when people started seeing the ads on national broadcast [TV], they would know a little bit more about what they were seeing," Hardwick said. "[But] the hub of the campaign is really our Web site, which is designed to first ask people to join, and then give them opportunities to take all kinds of actions that make sense for them."

Overall, the campaign portrays global warming as a serious, but solvable crisis that affects people from every political party and walk of life. Initial campaign ads pair seemingly opposite types, like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, and former House Speaker and GOP leader Newt Gingrich, or the Revs. Pat Robertson and Al Sharpton.

Many groups worked to develop strategy and messaging for the campaign and its site, including the Alliance; its PR agency, Glover Park Group (GPG); Gore's communications director, Kalee Kreider; and the effort's advertising firm the Martin Agency.

Gore contributed his earnings from both the documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and the Nobel Peace Prize, to the Alliance. Additional funds were raised during the Live Earth concert held last summer, as well as from other nonprofit foundations.

Kreider noted that the "We Campaign" also benefits from the more than 2,000 people around the world that Gore has trained to give public presentations on climate change, similar to the one he gives in the documentary. These trainees serve as online representatives for the Web site, where visitors can get information on environmental-friendly practices. It also offers tips on how to contact media or legislators regarding global warming issues.

    • Al Gore On Sixty Minutes/Happy Birthday!

How I love this man! It is going to be so emotional to even see the ads from his organization play on television this next week. It has been such a long time waiting to have someone of his stature, conviction, and passion for our Earth take this step. To put his own money, time, creativity and knowledge into doing this for our future is just yes, heroic. After supporting him for over twenty years I can absolutely say I have never been prouder of him than I am today. He is not only a man who cares about this country, but the world. And to hear tonight that he is converting his family farm into a worldwide training center- well, SIGN ME UP.

He is also not only training people in India, but has also trained people in London, Australia, Spain, and will be training more people coming up next month in Canada. He is scheduled to be keynote speaker at events all over the world and will be instrumental in forging a climate treaty that truly meets the challenge of the climate crisis. It is more than I could have ever hoped for for him in lifting himself up from the pain of eight years ago, and it is as if that pain were meant to be to lead him to where he is now.

That hurt is still obvious in his face when he speaks of it, as well as his wife's, and when the last question came up I immediately looked at his wife's face and it said, oh no, not this again. He is over it. He is above politics. He is about working to help this species survive its own destructive behavior. That is most certainly a full time job that cannot be done from the tainted halls of the beltway.

I only hope that now as his new ad campaign embarks more people will awaken to seeing the urgency of what we face as a species and the limited time we have to make it right. We can solve it as Mr. Gore stated, but we all need the will and we need to stay on top of those who have the responsibility of doing that in government. However, I truly do believe business and individuals are and already will take the lead on this and that is primarily due to Al Gore's tremendous efforts and focus on the most challenging crisis this species has ever faced.

Happy Birthday tomorrow to a great man who has shown all of us that anything is possible when you put your soul and heart into it. He truly does inspire me.

    • Al Gore's Message To Climate Skeptics

I am so looking forward to seeing Mr. Gore's interview this Sunday night. I hope he gets to talk about The Alliance for Climate Protection's ad campaign scheduled to be launched next week, because I am hoping it brings a turning point in this country regarding the need to take action on climate change through awareness. And also, his response to the climate skeptics is right on target. Those centuries ago who claimed that the sun not the Earth was the center of the universe were treated with the same scorn and contempt as those scientists who have proven that we as humans are contributing to the affects of climate change. How fortunate for humanity that it did not place trust in those who thought the opposite or thought the world was flat.

I don't believe it is all about money either, though that is certainly a large part of it as many of those who dismiss the evidence of anthropogenic climate change in the skeptics movement have received money from oil and utility companies. I also think it is religious in nature (the will of God) opposing science, it is political, and it is also about the inability to take responsibility for one's actions.

None of those reasons however, should stand in the way of truth and that is exactly what those who refuse to see the evidence are doing: standing in the way of truth. Should we actually listen to the skeptics and decades from now after the glaciers have melted, after the water has begun to dwindle, after wars are fought for land, water, food and other resources with great loss to humanity and other species, will those who claimed this was all a hoax still believe that?

Let's hope we never have to find out. Let's hope we take action now to save not only the planet that is our only home but ourselves, a rare and precious species in a rare and precious universe too precious to bow to the whims of the few who simply wish to perpetrate lies to assuage their own wants over the needs of the whole.

Therefore, thank you Mr. Gore for being our Galileo.

    • Global Warming Denier Group Set To Recycle Attacks On Al Gore

CEI must be bored. They will once again launch an ad and an attack on Al Gore because it is obvious that with oil breaking a 100 dollars a barrel, those they are spokepeople for are getting nervous that Americans will be demanding other alternate sources. Notice this will also be launched just around the time The Alliance for Climate Protection is set to start their ad blitz.

Of course, this also goes back to the fact that to deny global warming/anthropogenic climate change is also a way to absolve yourself from any responsibility to anything but your own selfish lives. It is truly a shame that these people are so steeped in such partisan political hatred that they cannot even realize that thousands of scientists around the world have evidence to back up that humans are precipitating the warming and other effects we are seeing taking place around the globe.

And again, I have not seen, heard, or read one scientist who corroborates anthropogenic climate change denying that the Earth also goes through cycles. However, the precipitous rise in warming and the pace of it is unmistakable in regards to our contribution to that warming. They would actually then look credible if they even gave a half decent critique that addressed the entire scientific community instead of launching a personal attack on the messenger clearly based on partisan political hatred.

The only thing they will do in this instance is show themselves for the political hacks they are. However, who will speak out against this lame assault? Where are the people in speaking out for their planet against these greedy selfish mouthpieces for the oil industry who wish to keep the status quo?

    • Support Al Gore in Bali!!! :)

In Bali, Indonesia thousands of delegates from nearly 190 countries have gathered at the UN Conference on Climate Change. In ten days, I will address the conference to urge the adoption of a visionary new treaty to address global warming and I want to bring your voices with me.

Click here to sign my petition today and I will bring your signatures on stage with me as a clear demonstration of our resolve:
      http://climateprotect.org/standwithal

Together, we will call on the US government to assume a new leadership role in solving the climate crisis.

World leaders including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and newly elected Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd have all agreed to aggressively battle the climate crisis - yet our country still lags behind.

Over the next ten days, I would like you to help me get people from across the country to sign our message to the global community. We can demonstrate that the American people understand the immediacy of the climate crisis and want to work with the nations of the world to solve it. Time is short - we need to mobilize everyone to bring this message to Bali: http://climateprotect.org/standwithal

The American people want a visionary treaty to address climate change and for the US government to play a positive leadership role in its development.

      Thank you,

      Al Gore
