McCain: Gay adoption is not normal
Presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain denounced adoption for same-sex couples this weekend in an interview with The New York Times. McCain, who with his wife, Cindy, has an adopted child, has aligned himself with President Bush, who vehemently opposes adoption rights for gays.
“I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family, so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption,” he said in the article. "I encourage adoption and I encourage the opportunities for people to adopt children. I encourage the process being less complicated so they can adopt as quickly as possible. And Cindy and I are proud of being adoptive parents."
Jody M. Huckaby, executive director of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, came out against McCain's views. "Love makes a family, but short-sighted positions like Senator McCain's can certainly tear families apart too," she said in a statement.
Kara Suffrendi, director of the Family Equality Council's public policy division, asserted that more than 75% of American homes don't follow the traditional married, heterosexual hierarchy. "We are a nation of blended and multigenerational families, adoptive and foster families, and families headed by single parents, divorced parents, unmarried parents, same-sex couples and more," she said in a statement. "This is what is true about lesbians and gays raising children: 30 years of scientifically valid research universally demonstrates that LGBT families are just as nurturing for children's growth and development as heterosexual families."
About 130,000 children live in the foster care system in any given year awaiting a permanent home, according to the Center for American Progress Action Fund. A joint study by the Urban Institute and the University of California, Los Angeles's Williams Institute shows that an estimated 14,000 adopted children in the United Statea are living with gay or lesbian parents. A national ban on such adoptions could cost the foster care system up to $130 million, placing the burden on states to foot a bill anywhere between $100,000 and $27 million, according to the report.

The children benefit by having emotional stability, full time parents, better than orphanage. In addition, barring gay men and lesbians from becoming parents is discrimination, based on sexual orientation.
Gay and Lesbian groups were discriminated against for years, and have continued fighting for their rights. The US Constitution in Amendment XIV states that No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. From a glossary, Adoption is define such the official transfer through the court system of all of the parental rights that a biological parent has to a child. In relation to adoption of minor many people may think that the idea that same-sex couples adopt children should not be tolerated. This people argue that children would be influence to be converted into gay or lesbian just because they have daily interaction with gay-lesbian individuals. Also, some people believe that the lack of a female or male role model will confuse the young child because these children will have two dads or two moms. Many religion groups argue that their moral principals and human common sense do not approve this kind of acts because relationships between men and women always existed. In addition these people state that gays and lesbians have more probability to molest children, because they are sexually perverted.
After studying the pros and cons of same-sex adoption barring gay men and lesbians from becoming parents is discrimination, based on sexual orientation. This would not be tolerable by any way. For this reason, it is correct think of the benefits of the child , but incorrect to barred adoption base on sexual orientation. Upon examine this evidence, there is no way we can agree with those that think the contrary. they say. First, children are not be influenced to be gay or lesbian because homosexual people were raised in the most of the case with heterosexual parents. Homosexual parents then will not automatically raise homosexual children. People also argue that children will be raise with a confused role model, just because they will not raise with a man and woman. In our society there are single parents who raise their children with good values. We need consider that parents are not the only influence on children, but also television and peers. Teacher can also influence Childs role model in society. In addition , Many times religion is used to combat gay adopting. However gay adopting is a legal and material issue, not a religion concern, we have many religions in this country. For this reason religion it is not required to develop a gay adoption. Because, since our country were separated from the church, we have the right to decide what religion to practice. For this reason, we live in a democracy not in a theocracy.
Finally, After all The controversies around the adoption by same-sex couples. It is clear that gender confusion and orientation Will not be affected for parents sexual orientation. Because many Social science researches has shown that parents' sexual orientation has non-influence in the sexual preference of those children. However, gay and lesbian Adoption benefit children moral stability. Gays and lesbians have more probability of be full time parents and children will be better that tell will be in an orphanage. Banning gay-lesbian adoption base on sexual orientation. is complete a discrimination against human rights. Gay adoption should not be banned.
