India's Communists to Decide Strategy on Nuclear Deal Tomorrow
Excerpt:
India's Communist parties will tomorrow decide their strategy on support to the government over the country's nuclear agreement with the U.S.
India will soon approach the International Atomic Energy Agency for a safeguards agreement for the deal, the Press Trust of India reported today, citing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The process will move very fast, Singh told reporters.
The Communist parties, which oppose the deal, had set today as the deadline for a clarification from the ruling coalition on approaching the global nuclear regulator as part of steps to complete the accord.

I'd love to see Bush's face when he learns or learnt this - he is the one who made a generous offer to India to help it develop its nuclear program. India is not a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and neither is Israel. Iran is a signatory and has not broken that treaty. The USA is also a signatory, and has broken it several times.

US, Israel slammed over Iran threat
New York Times daily has criticized US and Israel for threatening Iran, saying they should take more assertive diplomacy not war planning.
Referring to the last week Israeli leaders' tough talking about Iran and threatening possible military action, the US daily said the United States and other major powers need to address Tehran's nuclear ambitions, but with more assertive diplomacy not more threats or war planning.
The daily said the Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert, who is bedeviled by a corruption scandal that could drive him from office, led the charge.
“The Iranian threat must be stopped by all possible means,” he said in Washington, a day before meeting President Bush at the White House.
Then Israel's transportation minister, Shaul Mofaz, who is jockeying to replace Olmert as head of the ruling Kadima party if the prime minister is forced to resign, declared that an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites looks "unavoidable".
According to the [New York Times] daily, Olmert may be trying to divert attention from his political troubles.
Ignoring IAEA reports confirming Tehran's non-deviation from declared nuclear activities, the deputy prime minister threatened Iran on Friday with a military attack if it "continues its nuclear weapons program".
Following the deputy's remarks Israeli officials condemned Shaul Mofaz's threats against Tehran, calling them 'irresponsible' and 'cynical'.
The Zionist regime bars inspections of its nuclear facilities and is widely believed to have over 200 nuclear warheads in its arsenal. Israel calls its approach of neither denying nor admitting that it has nuclear weapons 'strategic ambiguity'.
Iran, however, is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and allows the UN nuclear watchdog to conduct inspections of its nuclear facilities. Tehran maintains that as an NPT member it is entitled to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.

Iran: IAEA report sparks controversy

Very interesting analysis of the report and of how those who want to attack Iran spin that report which seems to be perfectly clear - Iran has done nothing wrong and neither has it lied.

Anti-Iran rhetoric raises UN concerns
The head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog said Sunday he had no evidence Iran was working actively to build nuclear weapons and expressed concern that escalating rhetoric from the U.S. could bring disaster.
"We have information that there has been maybe some studies about possible weaponization," said Mohamed ElBaradei, who leads the International Atomic Energy Agency. "That's why we have said that we cannot give Iran a pass right now, because there is still a lot of question marks."
"But have we seen Iran having the nuclear material that can readily be used into a weapon? No. Have we seen an active weaponization program? No." Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accused Iran this month of "lying" about the aim of its nuclear program. She said there is no doubt Tehran wants the capability to produce nuclear weapons and has deceived the IAEA about its intentions.
Vice President Dick Cheney has raised the prospect of "serious consequences" if Iran were found to be working toward developing a nuclear weapon. Last week, the Bush administration announced harsh penalties against the Iranian military and state-owned banking systems in hopes of raising pressure on the world financial system to cut ties with Tehran.
