    • Uncommon Heroes of the California Wildfires

We've all heard about the firefighters who have come from all over to help fight the California wildfires that have been raging for over a month, but there are a large group of firefighters that we haven't heard much about, and they are the main ones fighting the fires.

Prison inmates have been taught firefighting skills and are working in great numbers to contain all of these fires that are breaking out. These low-security inmates are getting obvious confidence and joy from being given a chance to contribute positively to the community.

    • Malibu Wildfires Partly Under Control

Wildfires that started in Southern California this morning are partly under control as we head into the evening here. Fueled by the Santa Ana winds, the fire has consumed at least 35 homes in the affluent city of Malibu. More than 15,000 people were evacuated from hundreds of residences. Many escaped just minutes ahead of the flames.

After fighting a losing battle for most of the day, the 1,700 firefighters have contained a small portion. They describe it "like a blowtorch with a huge hairdryer behind it".

    • Southern Callifornia is burning

I live at the West Coast of Southern California, The air here is usually cool and clear. Not now. It is grey and ugly. Heat. Oppressive and unyeilding.Toxic air.
So many thousands have been displaced and lost homes. We have NEVER seen a disaster on this scale even though we burn every year.....every year.
Paradise is fleeting and you learn what is really important in one's life. The kindness of others, and people you love.
