    • Is A Free Logo Design Worth The Cost?

The service says it is free, but is it? Most of the free logo design websites out there are trying to entice you to purchase products from them or pay an additional fee to provide a better logo than the “free” one. That brings up the first question: The service says it is free, but is it? Most of the free logo design websites out there are trying to entice you to purchase products ... more

    • Anger at 'slutty' Starbucks logo

Give me a break, this 'Resistance' group has got to be a bunch of nuts!!
      ***************************

US coffee chain Starbucks has come under fire for a new logo that critics say is offensive and overly graphic.
The Resistance, a US-based Christian group, has called for a national boycott of the coffee-selling giant.
It says the chain's new logo has a naked woman on it with her legs "spread like a prostitute... The company might as well call themselves Slutbucks".
Starbucks says the image - based on a 16th century Norse design of a mermaid with two-tails - is not inappropriate.
Rather, the image is a more conservative version of the original Starbucks design, which hung above the chain's first store when it opened in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1971.
      'Rubenesque'
It says the raunchy image - the longstanding logo for Pike Place bags of coffee - is appearing on some of its cups as part of a promotion, and will remain "for several weeks".
Howard Schultz, who bought Starbucks in 1982, described the emblem in his memoirs as "bare-breasted and Rubenesque; [it] was supposed to be as seductive as coffee itself".
Although its share price has plunged in recent years, Starbucks has 16,000 coffee shops in 44 countries worldwide, employing more than 170,000 staff.
The chain has just opened its first outlet in Argentina.
Based in San Diego, the Resistance claims to have more than 3,000 members across the US and has gained a reputation for espousing diverse conspiracy theories

    • Carmakers 'send message' with new logos

When the Insignia, a new car from the General Motors brands Opel and Vauxhall, is introduced this week at the London Motor Show, it will come, fittingly, with some new insignias.

Opel, General Motors' biggest-selling division in continental Europe, and Vauxhall, its equivalent in Britain, are getting new logos as the company aims to "send a message that something is happening with these brands," said Alain Visser, chief marketing officer at GM Europe.

The new Vauxhall badge shows the brand's longtime mascot, a griffin, in a bigger, bolder way, zooming in on his upper body. The mythical beast, which joins the head and wings of an eagle to the body of a lion, also appears more three-dimensional; previous versions of the griffin were flat.

The Opel logo, a stylized lightning bolt, also gets more depth in the redesign, though the general shape is unchanged.

In giving Opel and Vauxhall an updated look, General Motors joins a series of other automakers, including Volvo, Fiat, Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz, that have recently refreshed or redesigned their logos, seeking an edge in a difficult market.

    • New logo shows firm grip on gov't spending (turn it round 90°)

It cost £14,000 to create, but clearly no-one at the trendy London design studio that came up with the new logo for HM Treasury thought to turn it on its side.

The motif, for the Office of Government Commerce, was intended to signify a bold commitment to the body’s aim of “improving value for money by driving up standards and capability in procurement.”

What it represents when turned to 90 degrees, however, is what many argue as a truer picture of government departments' day-to-day performance. Already emblazoned across mousemats, pens, and headed notepaper, the logo from the side looks alarmingly like a man in a... comfortable position. *blush*

    • Apple Attacks NYC Over GreeNYC Logo, Steve Jobzilla to Destroy Central Park Next

Apple has filed a formal opposition to NYC's GreeNYC campaign over its new logo, saying that the city's looped apple infringes its own trademark. While Steve's mob says the eco-logo will "seriously injure the reputation with which [Apple] has established for its goods and services." New York's response? "The city believes that Apple's claims have no merit and that no consumer is likely to be confused."

The NYC logo which, ironically enough, seems to be an apple drawn from an infinite loop, (ha!) has been appearing on bus shelters, hybrid taxis and shopping bags from Whole Foods. The Cupertino gang's claim for trademark infringement is, however, hard to prove with a logo, as its key issue is likelihood of confusion or dilution, according to an SF lawyer specializing in trademarks.

This dispute is the third time Apple has been involved in trademark infringement claims—remember its battle with the Beatles' Apple Corps, and Cisco Systems about who had the right to use the iPhone name?

Aren't banner ads awesome? Go ahead, click on a few over there. We'll wait.

But, unfortunately, a few bad apples have given the industry a bad name by being just a little misleading in their promises that hot singles and easy money are just a click away. What would banner ads look like in a world where they were required to tell the honest truth? We offered a prize to whoever has the Photoshop skills to show us. The winner is below, but first, the runners-up

    • GOP New Logo: Blue Horny Elephant on Ecstasy

This is from my blog, Progressive Common Sense: I love it. I just love it. The GOP just unveiled their new logo this week for the Republican National Convention next year in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Firstly, the elephant is blue. With everyone associating blue for democrats and red for republicans, why would they pick blue? Plus, why is it wearing a striped shirt? And why does it look like its on ecstasy or something? And why is it screwing the 2008? Elephants only go on their hind legs to mate. Isn't it also a coincidence that the convention is being held a few miles from where Senator Larry Craig was caught soliciting sex in a public restroom? I love the Republican Party. They give us so much to talk about. This is from my blog, Progressive Common Sense: I love it. I just love it. The GOP just unveiled their new logo this week for the Repu... more
