    • The REAL American Dream

      Illegal Immigration.

      What is it?

The term wasn't necessarily heard of before this century, or at least it wasn't very important.

It comes from the term "migration". Migration is a basic law of nature that cannot be changed and occurs when times are tough and beings just basically move.

Immigration is like migration, except the migrant moves to stay.

Now we are all hearing that this is made illegal, people are being deported in the hundreds every day. Normal people like us. People who work, who live on this land, who want to actually make something of themselves. People who quite possibly do not know or remember any other land but ours.

This country was founded by immigrants searching for a better life. These fellow immigrants are now making it impossible for other immigrants to do just that. The American Dream has been lost.

There are people out there who are trying to make a difference. Look at it this way:
remember the migration thing? It being a basic law of nature?

When this country becomes tough, people will go where it is nice or do something about it, that's just how it is. Apparently problems in other lands are larger than anyone can deal with right now. In the U.S. there is still a chance. There is talent here. There are people here who can make a difference.

The only problem is that the government has labeled them "illegal".

Join us to make our voices heard. You have to take small steps first before you can get somewhere you want.

Stop the limitation. Support the Dream Act, support The REAL American Dream.

    • N.C. keeps ban on illegal immigrants at state colleges

North Carolina's community colleges will keep their doors closed to illegal immigrants, a decision steeped in a divisive election-year political debate.

The State Board of Community Colleges voted Friday to back a motion by Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue, the Democratic candidate for governor, to keep its ban on admitting illegal immigrants in place while a study is conducted on how other states deal with the issue.

Perdue wants a permanent ban, and pushed to keep illegal immigrants from enrolling while "the long-term policy is being examined." Of the more than 300,000 students enrolled in community colleges in 2006-2007, 112 were illegal immigrants.

The vote, with 11 of the 16 board members participating in favor of keeping the ban, appeared to reverse the direction that the board was heading just a day before.

    • Legal, born in the U.S. residents denied citizenship!!

WESLACO, Texas -- In the archives of local institutions, Juan Aranda's life is firmly rooted in this small south Texas town.

His birth certificate says he was delivered unto Weslaco 38 years ago, and church records say he was baptized here soon after. School files list him as a student in the local district from kindergarten through high school, and voter rolls show he votes for president here.

But to the U.S. State Department, all that black and white looks a lot like gray. It recently refused to issue Mr. Aranda a passport; the government isn't sure he's an American.

"I never imagined my U.S. citizenship would be questioned," says the manager at a water company. "I've lived here since the day I was born."

The problem is that Mr. Aranda was delivered by a midwife at a private home. Parteras, Spanish for midwives, have been part of life in Hidalgo and Cameron counties along the border with Mexico from the time of the Texas Republic and before. But in the early 1990s, dozens of midwives were convicted of forging U.S. birth certificates for about 15,000 children born in Mexico as far back as the 1960s.

As a result, the U.S. government no longer trusts that anyone in this region delivered by a midwife is an American citizen. In those cases, the government demands additional proof -- a demand that has applicants scouring school warehouses and church offices to document their pasts.

That has caused a panic in south Texas, where locals need a valid passport more than ever. A new law that goes into effect next year requires Americans to use a passport, rather than just a birth certificate or driver's license, to visit Mexico and Canada. The situation threatens to isolate thousands of people in the Rio Grande Valley who regularly travel back and forth to Mexico for work or family reasons.

"Usually a state-issued birth certificate is sufficient to establish U.S. nationality," says Michael Kirby, a senior official for consular affairs at the State Department. But, given the fraud committed by some south Texas midwives, "we want to be careful that we issue passports to everybody who is eligible and not to anyone who isn't," he says, acknowledging that thousands of passport applicants could be affected.

    • 1.3 million illegal immigrants have left the United States

Some 1.3 million illegal immigrants have left the United States since Congress failed to pass comprehensive immigration reform in the summer of 2007. If the trend continues, according to a new study, the nation's illegal population will drop by half in the next five yearsMoreover, reports the Center for Immigration Studies, young Hispanic immigrants began heading south before the nation's economy did – a clue that what's driving the new outmigration is a stepped-up border and workplace enforcement, not a souring US job market.

The source of the report – a think tank with a record of opposing illegal and even some legal immigration – is controversial in immigrant communities. But its findings could help frame the debate in a new Congress and a new administration.

The key conclusion is that enforcement, not the economy, is driving the decision to self-deport.

"The dropoff in illegal immigration seems to occur before there is a runup in their unemployment rate," says Steven Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies.

But Mr. Camarota also cites evidence of a link to the discussion in Congress about a path to legalization for undocumented workers. "From May to April [2007] there is an actual uptick in the number of illegals in the country, which falls off after the legislation fails. It seems as if the discussion of legalization had some effect on the decision to come or go or both," he says.

Critics caution that little is known about a shadow workforce estimated at anywhere from 11 million to 20 million. "The problem is it's difficult to know what's causing a change like this," says Tamar Jacoby, president of ImmigrationWorks USA, an organization of employers nationwide lobbying for comprehensive immigration reform. "But the one thing we know for sure is that the country is in a deep economic downturn, if not a recession, which means there's much less need for workers, especially those providing services for the middle class

In the following video, the senior-most woman in Congress in her thirteenth term in the US House of Representatives, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, who represents Northern Ohio's Ninth Congressional District, talks about the North American Union (NAU), which will integrate Canada, the US and Mexico under one centralized government.

For more than 13 years North America’s SuperCorridor Coalition (NASCO) and its members have been working diligently towards creating this centralized government, however, our ‘elected’ leaders continue to deny that such a project even exists.

    • San Francisco's sanctuary city status changed by Newsom

San Francisco declared itself a Sanctuary City in 1989. This means it doesn't hand over undocumented immigrants to the federal authorities.

Recently the city policy has come under fire when it was revealed that city officials escorted two juveniles with drug charges back to their native Honduras using tax payers' dollars.

Officials on each side of the issue bring up good points about first time offenders vs clear exploitation of San Francisco's sanctuary status.

Mayor Newsom now says that he will direct all felony cases to the Feds.

Could this have anything to do with Newsom's possible run for Govenor?

    • Katie Couric is Becoming Lou Dobbs (Who Needs Facts When You've Got Prejudice...

As if Katie Couric didn’t already have enough problems.

Weighed down by record-low ratings at the anchor desk of “CBS Evening News,” and by reports suggesting she will leave that post two years before her multimillion-dollar contract expires, Couric now has civil rights groups — mostly Hispanic — on her back.

      And for good reason.

The CBS newscast that carries her name recently aired a one-sided and inaccurate report about illegal immigrant women who give birth to their children in the United States. The news story challenged the broader constitutional law of birthright citizenship and stated — without providing the correct context — that the births cost U.S. taxpayers millions of dollars annually.

    • US Dollars Fund Mexican Infrastructure

A key part of the trade relationship between the United States and Latin America is cash -- foreign workers in this country send tens of billions of dollars back home. Mexicans living abroad, many of them in the United States, are expected to send more than $25 billion this year. Most of that will go to their families -- but communities benefit, too, thanks to a matching program with a twist. The program is called "tres por uno," or "three for one." Whether it would be schools, public places, lighting -- whatever it may be -- for every dollar the Mexicans living abroad put into this program, the federal government adds one dollar, the state government adds another dollar and the municipal government adds another dollar. Since 2002, "tres por uno" has brought in $300 million, and grown from a handful of projects into more than a thousand last year. Agustin Escobar is a social anthropologist in Guadalajara. He has studied the program since it began in 2002 -- he says the biggest problem with "tres por uno" is that it's too small. Other critics say "tres por uno" sounds like the Mexican government is encouraging its citizens to leave. Then they will send money back home and fund the country's programs. Meanwhile, the US infrastructure is crumbling while states complain of not having enough money to rebuild our own infrastructure. • GOP Immigrant-bashing is Hurting Their Party, Democrats to Reap the Benefits

This renewed xenophobia towards Mexicans will bode very badly for the GOP come the general election as Hispanics are the fastest growing minority and an influential voting demographic. And yes I say Mexicans, because the vast majority of "illegal immigrants" are Mexicans and this IS a RACIAL ISSUE--if you doubt this then you might want to ask yourself: why don't they worry about securing Canada's border? If you remember terrorists didn't go through the mexican border.

Mexicans are being scapegoated once more in the history of the United States. Know your history people, in the 1930's during the depression over a million Mexicans, including american citizens (sons/daughters of mexican immigrants) were "re-patriated" to Mexico a place that had become foreign to many of them (they WERE AMERICANS.) They were shipped in trains, boats, and many drove cars south. The journey was a dangerous and sometimes a disgusting one. Some people packed into trains having to stand in their own shit and piss for hours at a time (which eerily reminds me of the trains that took holocaust victums). Mexicans were humiliated and disrespected simply for the color of their skin.

Not to mention the way Mexicans were beaten, raped and lynched during the 1840's and 50s after the U.S. stole half of Mexico in the gravely unjust and undertaught Mexican-American War. If the GOP is so hung up on respecting the law then maybe they should honor the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo a lawful agreement, that respected Mexicans right to perseve their property, language and culture. But oh yeah, the U.S. only honors laws that align with their own ignorance, bigotry, racism and homophobia. So we see an UNNECESSARY rise in hate crimes against gays and latinos, because well, it comes down to one simple elemantry thing: they're different, and we dont like people who are different. Republicans GROW UP.

Sorry, I'm latino and I'm gay so I feel like I'm getting attacked for who I am twice as much these days.
