Global AIDS forum opens in Mexico
A global conference on HIV/Aids has opened in Mexico City, a quarter of a century after the disease first became widely known.
Figures released ahead of the meeting reveal that the number of people with the condition around the world has gone down slightly overall.
However, infection rates are still rising in some countries and access to the right treatment is also an issue.
Across the world 33 million people are affected by the syndrome.
The six-day conference was preceded by an awareness march, a photo exhibition and other events.
About 20,000 scientists, government officials and campaigners are in Mexico City for the event.

Virus Spreads on Computer Safety Conference
Telstra is red-faced after handing out malware-infected USB drives to tutorial attendees at the AusCERT security conference on the Gold Coast.
AusCERT's marketing manager Claire Groves confirmed the deliciously ironic snafu.
"It was only yesterday at (a) tutorial," she said. "Telstra handed out USB sticks which they didn't know were infected.
"As soon as they found out they recalled them," Groves added.
Groves says McAfee has examined the malware and deemed the risk to users from the rogue drives as "low."
A tipster told SearchSecurity.com.au the virii were of the "autorun" variety.

This is such an excellent idea. The need to address this known underrepresentation has been thankfully picking up steam, and it's great to see something happening as a result.

Al Gore To Climate Conference in Faroes
Al Gore, Nobel prize winner and former Vice-President of the USA, will be the main speaker at the TransAtlantic Climate Conference in the Faroe Islands, on 7 and 8 April, an event focusing on climate change in the North Atlantic and on the new challenges faced by countries in the region.
NORA, a Nordic Council of Ministers' cross-border committee on regional policy, is one of the organisers of the event. Climate change is high on the Nordic co-operation agenda, especially within the framework of the new initiative designed to help the Region face up to the challenges posed by globalisation. By involving several countries around the North Atlantic, it is hoped that the conference will provide a boost to trans-Atlantic co-operation on climate change in the marine environment.

Current TV Convergence Lecture, UCLA, October 31, 2007
Today I lectured about internet/tv convergence in an undergraduate class in the Information Studies department at UCLA. I showed my pod Secular Iraqi Refugees and followed it up with the 'peep' Andrew did on how my Iraqi friends posted messages on Current.com. I did this to illustrate how anthropology or citizen journalism is changing in the age of convergence and the Current-led democratizing of new media.
