    • Nancy Reagan hospitalized with broken pelvis

Reagan fell at her L.A. home last week and, after 'experiencing persistent pain,' went to the UCLA hospital, her spokeswoman says. She is expected to be hospitalized for a few days.
      -------------------

Former first lady Nancy Reagan broke her pelvis and has been admitted to the hospital, her spokeswoman said in a statement this morning.

Reagan, 87, fell last week at her home in Los Angeles and went to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Monday for tests after "experiencing persistent pain," the statement said. Her recovery time is expected to last six to eight weeks, and will include physical therapy and a modified schedule.

Reagan is expected to remain at the hospital for "a few days" until doctors are satisfied with her progress, spokeswoman Joanne Drake said in the statement.

She said no other doctors or officials were available for interviews. A spokeswoman for the medical center did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.

    • Potential U.S. first ladies draw fashion buzz

Cindy McCain or Michelle Obama for the White House?

Among fashionistas, the wives of the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama are drawing the kind of enthusiasm that Nancy Reagan and Jacqueline Kennedy once attracted.

As might be expected, style mavens' critiques focus less on what the potential first ladies say or do than on what they wear.

While Obama won fans for wearing a relatively affordable $150 dress on talk show "The View," McCain drew attention for her expensive tastes. Vanity Fair magazine estimated one outfit she wore at the Republican National Convention this week was worth $300,000.

The choice a week ago of John McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who took part in beauty pageants in her youth, also has caused a buzz. But Mickey Blum, director of survey research at Baruch College, said her style could not be compared to McCain and Obama.

The consensus at New York Fashion Week is that both potential first ladies have style but most designers in the traditionally Democratic-leaning industry would much rather have the chance to dress Obama over McCain.

    • Mincing Up Michelle

There are some who think it will be harder for America to accept a black first lady — the national hostess who serenely presides over the White House Christmas festivities and the Easter egg roll — than a black president. • Elizabeth Kucinich / Strength Through Peace

Sunday November 11, 2007 Elizabeth Kucinich arrived in Denver to attend the Colorado for Kucinich fundraiser brunch held at the Mercury Café. The Mercury Café is one of Denver's alternative hotspots and has led the way in greening Denver by installing solar panels and wind turbines. The Mercury has been sponsoring bio diesel support groups, and owner Marilyn McGinnity is a great supporter of the Kucinich campaign.
The turn out was large and Kucinich was well received. Colorado4Kucinch organizers stressed the need to get Kucinich supporters out to the precinct caucus process which is held on February 5, 2008. Colorado does not hold a presidential preference primary. Campaign organizers urged members of the audience to remind their friends that December 5, 2007 is the deadline for registering to vote as a Democrat in order to be eligible to participate in the Democratic caucus process.
Paige Tompson introduced Elizabeth Kucinich who took the stage and gave a brief talk about the campaign and some key issues before saying she really wanted to hear from the audience, and answer any questions they may have about issues or the campaign.
