Lockbox: An Anarchist Tale
As the Republicans gathered last month in St. Paul to nominate John McCain for president, so did a group of protesters determined to stop them. We follow self-proclaimed anarchist Somorra and her friends as they successfully lockdown a highway off-ramp, blockade the streets, and clash with police in an attempt to shut down the Republican National Convention. Hear an insider's thoughts on anarchy, cops, and American culture and see why Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher called September 1 "eight hours of chaos." As the Republicans gathered last month in St. Paul to nominate John McCain for president, so did a group of protesters determined to s... more

Grassroots goal: raise $1 million for impeachment and ending the war
This is 100% citizen run goal. If you want to hold the government accountable, you have to get off your butt.
Nancy Pelosi has been George W Bush's lapdog on everything from torture to the war in Iraq.
She has said repeatedly that "Impeachment is off the table."
When we elect people to hold others who are abusing power accountable, and they don't do their job, then we hold THEM accountable.
Nancy Pelosi must go.
Donate to Cindy Sheehan, and spread the word. Everywhere I went putting these posters up, people were cheering me on, and explained how they were glad that I had thought of this, and I even got a few to commit to not only donating but also putting up posters in their towns. This is 100% citizen run goal. If you want to hold the government accountable, you have to get off your butt. ... more -

Denver officials weren't planning to reveal details about where activists would be detained in the event of mass arrests during the Democratic National Convention until after the event had started, but those plans were quickly dashed this week when CBS 4News reporter Rick Sallinger not only revealed that protesters would be locked up in a city-owned warehouse, but he also obtained clear video footage inside the facility, a building that includes barbed wire-topped cages and signs warning of stun-gun use. Pelosi's book tour becomes 'why haven't you impeached?' tour
When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi set out to promote her new motivational book this month, she simultaneously touched off her national why-haven't-you-impeached-the-president tour.
As she made the coast-to-coast rounds of lectures, television interviews and radio chats the past two weeks, Ms. Pelosi found herself under siege by people unhappy that she has not been motivated to try to throw President Bush out of office – even if only a few months remain before he leaves voluntarily.
In Manhattan and Los Angeles, at stops in between, on network television and on her home turf of Northern California, Ms. Pelosi has been forced to defend her pronouncement before the 2006 mid-term elections that impeachment over the administration’s push for war in Iraq was off the table.
[...]
Then she added this qualifier: “If somebody had a crime that the president had committed, that would be a different story.”
That assertion only threw fuel on the impeachment fire as advocates of removing Mr. Bush cited the 35 articles of impeachment compiled by Representative Dennis Kucinich, Democrat of Ohio, as well as accusations in a new book by author Ron Suskind of White House orders to falsify intelligence, an accusation that has been denied.
“There’s an opportunity now for us to come forward and to lay all the facts out so that she can reconsider her decision not to permit the Judiciary Committee to proceed with a full impeachment hearing,” Mr. Kucinich said in an interview with the Web site Democracy Now!
Mr. Kucinich, long a proponent of starting hearings to impeach both Mr. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, earlier this week applauded signals that the Judiciary Committee would look into the claims made by Mr. Suskind in his book.
Despite whatever resonance pursuing the president might have in progressive Democratic circles, it is not the message Democrats want to carry into an election where they need to appeal to swing voters to increase their Congressional majorities and win the White House. They would rather devote their final weeks to pushing economic relief and health care, even if they thought Mr. Bush and the conduct of the war merited impeachment hearings.
And leading Democrats argue anyway that Mr. Bush has already been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion.
“He has been impeached by current history,” said Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. “He is going down as the worst president ever. The facts are in.” [...]
The disillusionment has crystallized in a challenger for Ms. Pelosi in the person of Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war activist whose son was killed in Iraq. Ms. Sheehan and her allies collected more than 17,000 signatures to qualify her as an independent for the November ballot in San Francisco.

Cindy Sheehan will be on the Ballot to Challenge Nancy Pelosi!
Cindy Sheehan, frustrated with Pelosi's inaction on ending the war, using the power of the purse, setting a timetable, refusing to impeach, and making up endless strings of excuses for continued inaction, decided to run against Pelosi in her home district.
This is THE MOST IMPORTANT election in 2008. Taking down Pelosi would have a bigger impact on the laws passed by Congress than McCain or Obama could ever hope to have. Nancy Pelosi Must be Held Accountable!
Nancy Pelosi is acting as George W Bush's guard dog. She has the power to strip her follow democrats of their ranking and privilages, like she did with Cynthia McKinney after she grilled Donald Rumsfeld about the war games on 9-11.
We will not see impeachment so long as Nancy Pelosi is in office, so to get to Bush we have to go through her.
Impeaching Nancy Pelosi is highly unlikely, but unseating her isn't.
Recently, there were "impeachment hearings" which were held on the 25th of July. These hearings had no actual power and were nothing more than a show trial.
That they were allowed to happen at all is testimony to the fact that Cindy Sheehan is cranking up the heat against Nancy Pelosi.
The more money Cindy Sheehan raises the more accountable Nancy Pelosi, and all of the US congress, becomes. Nancy Pelosi is acting as George W Bush's guard dog. She has the power to strip her follow democrats of their ranking and privil... more -

Anarchists planning to 'crash' RNC convention
The anarchist group RNC Welcoming Committee is planning to stir up the Republican National Conference.
"Fox News was spreading this local coverage nationwide, telling their audience that anarchists "have plans to crash the Republican Convention" and featuring an interview on local community radio with three members of the RNC Welcoming Committee over the banner "anarchists plan to cut off the arena from entering delegates."
"We're not trying to influence the Republicans," stated one anarchist in the radio interview. "They already know that people are against the war. People are against pollution and global warming and racism. The Republicans don't seem to care."
"We don't think the political elite will stop because we ask nicely," explained another. "And so we advocate a strategy of direct action -- in this case, not letting them hold the convention." Border Patrol Gets Violent Against No Borders Camp at End of Peaceful Week
After a great week at the No Borders Camp in Calexico/Mexicali, activists met with overwhelming and inappropriate force wielded by the Border Patrol in downtown Calexico during a closing march.
The 5-day event featured numerous calm and measured interactions and negotions with the Border Patrol and local law enforcement. In general, The camp was considered a great success by organizers before last night's troubles, and included many workshops, cross-border communication and networking, art-making, and performances.
Activist protests and mobilizations often conclude with startlingly violent acts by law enforcement, when officers and agents, tired and frustrated after standing in the sun watching the activists have fun, take out their repressed annoyance on the innocent. Still, this brutality of the Border Patrol marred an otherwise very positive experience and was a disappointing and somewhat surprising development.
An archive of other news from the Camp can be found on http://noborderscamp.org.
