Dear Jerry: please keep football ON THE FIELD and get over yourself.
So, the fight between the NFL and large cable companies was taken to the Texas Capitol yesterday. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made their pitch to the Texas House Regulated Industries Committee to get their fledgling NFL Network into more households. "As America's team, the Dallas Cowboys have millions of fans outside the home market who are being kept in the dark by Big Cable," Jones said. Okay buddy, seriously? PLEASE. First, if they want us fans to see all the games, why'd they take them off of free television? They need to stop blaming cable companies for a problem that they created. Second, this step in urging the state to intervene is entirely inappropriate, and I doubt is even in its jurisdiction. Third, and most importantly, Jones - I still resent that you ran Johnson outta Dallas. Voiceover: "Hey, Jerry! You've just won back-to-back Super Bowls! What are you gonna do now?" Jerry: "Can my coach." Fire Jimmy, hire Barry Switzer...that's pretty much dumb and dumber. Don't get me wrong though, I've still got love for my boys -- just not for the man with the neverending ego trip. Crowning Moment: Cowboys are NFC East Champs!
The Cowboys have clinched their first division title since 1998, but not without a large dose of drama. Dallas trailed Detroit all day, but Romo threw a game-winning drive for an amazing 28-27 comeback, allowing Witten to redeem himself after fumbling on the Lions' 1-yard line during the fourth quarter. Got me a little worried there for a second, but thankfully my boys pulled through :) The Cowboys have clinched their first division title since 1998, but not without a large dose of drama. "GET YOUR POPCORN READY, because it's going to be a show!"
Remember last season when Lions quarterback Jon Kitna talked trash on the radio after Detroit beat Dallas? Kitna said he was just kidding. But tomorrow, the joke might be on him. As the 11-1 Cowboys suit up to play the Lions tomorrow, it seems as if they're making good on the $25-million promise Owens made last year to Dallas fans when he told them to get your popcorn ready, because it's going to be a show." The 6-6 Lions are reeling, riding a four-game losing streak that has put their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Get ready, because my boys will be clinching their first division title since 1998 tomorrow...and making sure Kitna shuts the heck up. Cowboys Don't Want Your Firstborn, Just the College Tuition
So you thought you knew a little something about how expensive it is to attend live sports events. Check this out: The Cowboys just introduced their fans to some of the prices for PSLs, personal seat licenses, for the team's new $1 billion stadium in Arlington, Texas. In short, a PSL gives you the privilege of buying season tickets, which you have to pay for separately. The highest PSL price for a single seat is a whoppin' $150,000, the cheapest is $16,000 in the stadium's lower bowl, and grants the owner the right to purchase those tickets for the next 30 years. The price of the tickets is locked in for the first five years - $340 per seat per game. Oh, you get free food and drinks too for the most expensive PSL seats, but seriously, when you're forking over 150-large, who cares about hot dogs and longnecks? Got NFL Network?
It's one of the biggest games of the year, but Cowboys fans, like myself, in many parts of America won't be able to watch it on cable Thursday night. The face-off between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, both teams with 10-1 records and possible home-field advantage throughout the playoffs at stake, will not be shown by Time Warner Cable, America's second largest cable company, because of a impasse with the NFL Network. During a conference call last week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said fans should blame the big cable companies if they cant get the NFL Network. Jones points out that 240 smaller cable companies, with a combined 8 million subscribers, are carrying the network and have not passed along price increases to their customers. Really though, who the heck cares who's to blame? I just want to watch the game. So...y'all better make friends with people who have satellite tv or head to a local bar to watch the game. Can the Cowboys Run the Table?
To date, the Cowboys' best regular season run, 13-3, was in 1992 under Jimmy Johnson. The 8-1 Cowboys have a chance to finish 15-1, which would be the best record in franchise history. They play arch-rvial Redskins at home tonight, and again on December 30 in Washington, and although the Cowboys haven't won in Washington since 2004, the Redskins failed to score touchdowns from inside the Eagles' 2-yard line TWICE last week, so I'm not too worried. The game against Green Bay on November 29 is the one to watch out for; it is the big game that will likely decide home-field advantage in the NFC. Let's go Cowboys!!! Cowboys Redeem Themselves in Philly
Fresh off a bye week, Romo, Owens, and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys come back to Philly for their second chance - and they owned it. You know you've had a successful game when a stadium that seats 70,000 people only has 4,000 people left before the end of the game. That wasn't even enough for an adequate "boo"ing.
