    • Anti-Gay vilolence on the Rise in S. Florida

The second attack in less than a week has southern Florida residence worried. The first, a murder of a 17 year old trans gendered individual, Simmie Williams Junior, on a city street. Most recently, a man was attacked outside a 24 hour diner following a meal with his partner and a friend. The assailant noticed the victim eating on the patio and said, "Were you looking at me, if you were, I'm going to come back there and break your neck." The three were obviously spooked, so they paid their bill and headed to their car. Their car was close to the attackers. He grabbed Melbourne Brunner and started beating him. He managed to escape into his car. They tried to get the attacker's license plate number, but the attacker put his t-shirt over it and said, "I'll kill you before you get my tag number!"

All this as gays are facing an attack on a legal basis. The Florida GOP is funding and anti-gay amendment to the state constitution. Local activists argue that the hate speech coming from the GOP legitimizes anti-gay violence in homophobic minds.

    • Going out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving?

Instead of slaving over a hot stove for hours, how does having a gourmet turkey prepared by a complete stranger sound for your Thanksgiving dinner? It's not as strange as you may think: "You can guarantee anyone who's open on Thanksgiving sells out," says chef Eric Brennan of Excelsior in Boston. Did you make your own Thanksgiving meal? Instead of slaving over a hot stove for hours, how does having a gourmet turkey prepared by a complete stranger sound for your Thanksg... more

    • JFK's Favorite Restaurant

"John F. Kennedy would frequently meet with politicos in the private room seen here. Over bowls of the restaurant’s lobster stew, he sought approval from potential backers. Kennedy was merely following tradition. His grandfather, Mayor John Fitzgerald, also often held meet-and-eat sessions at Locke-Ober." "John F. • Boston Restaurants are Everywhere! (Even in Florida..)

      Boston's on the Beach

"The seaside eatery, known for its New England-style menu and walls covered in Rex Sox memorabilia, was packed with Red Sox fans Wednesday night all eager to watch and cheer for their team facing the Colorado Rockies. By the time the second inning was under way, the place was packed — a sea of red, navy and white Rex Sox shirts and hats. Some flew in from Boston, while others drove from as far as Broward County and Port St. Lucie to watch the game."

    • Food 2.0: Chefs as Chemists

"In September, talking to an audience of chefs from around the world, Wylie Dufresne of WD-50 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan waxed enthusiastic about a type of ingredient he has been adding to his restaurant’s dishes.

Not organic Waygu beef or newfound exotic spices or eye of newt and toe of frog, but hydrocolloid gums — obscure starches and proteins usually relegated to the lower reaches of ingredient labels on products like Twinkies. These substances are helping Mr. Dufresne make eye-opening (and critically acclaimed) creations like fried mayonnaise and a foie gras that can be tied into a knot."

OK, first of all, Waygu beef is delicious. Second, after reading about all these crazy, artificial things in crappy food (like fast food and the like), is this really what I want out of some fancy, swanky restaurant?
