Film poster blunder upsets London commuters
The timing could not have been worse.....
London is currently gripped by the inquest into the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell tube station on 22/07/05. I cycle past the memorial every monring and it was a truly horrific shooting by the Police.
The poster for the film Righteous Kill contains the tag line:
"There's nothing wrong with a little shooting as long as the right people get shot".
Should this poster be pulled immediately? Are the tube management guilty of insensitivity and chasing a fast buck? The timing could not have been worse..... ... more -
Jean Charles de Menezes inquest opens
The long-awaited inquest into the controversial fatal shooting of the Brazilian electrician who was wrongly identified by armed police as a suicide bomber is to start today.
De Menzes was shot dead at Stockwell tube station in July 2005, and today the police officers who fired the fatal shots, passengers who were on the train and members of the Menezes family, who "have publicly blamed Commissioner Sir Ian Blair for instigating a 'cover-up' after the shooting," will all speak to the court. Met Officers Cleared in De Menezes Case
No disciplinary action will be taken against four Metropolitan police officers for their roles in events leading up to the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, the police watchdog ruled today. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) decision closes the last of the watchdog's reviews into the shooting of the innocent Brazilian electrician in July 2005 at Stockwell underground station in south London. An inquest is expected to take place next year. The Met's deputy assistant commissioner, Cressida Dick, who was in charge of the control room, has been cleared, along with three officers on the ground identified only as Silver, Trojan 84 and Trojan 80. The IPCC ruling means the guilty verdict in the healthy and safety trial at the Old Bailey last month, which saw the Met fined £175,000 for "catastrophic" errors, did not amount to personal misconduct. De Menezes Report Released: Pressure on Met to Change Tactics
Sir Ian Blair will again find himself fighting to keep his job today when an official report into the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes highlights multiple errors that led to his death and identifies 16 areas where police must change to prevent a repeat of the tragedy. The report by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will intensify the pressure on the Metropolitan police commissioner to resign, and will also criticise Sir Ian's decision to try to scupper their independent investigation into the shooting by asking the home secretary to block it. Sir Ian Blair vowed yesterday to stay on as Britain's top police officer, despite sustained calls for his resignation, after his force was found guilty of "catastrophic" failings that led to the shooting dead of Jean Charles de Menezes.
An Old Bailey jury found the Metropolitan police guilty of breaking health and safety law in July 2005 when De Menezes was killed after being mistaken for a suicide bomber.
