Bank of America invests in green technology
"Bank of America Corp. on Wednesday said it made an investment in Field Diagnostic Services Inc. as part of an agreement to implement the company's energy-management systems in 3,300 of its branches, cutting energy costs in half.
Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed, however Bank of America (nyse: BAC - news - people ) said the investment includes board representation.
Based in Fairless Hills, Pa., Field Diagnostic provides technology that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by heating and cooling units.
The project is expected to save the bank as much as 50 percent in energy costs when compared with standard heating and cooling technologies, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 14,000 tons annually."

Companies missing the social networking boat
Businesses are passing up on the potential social networking sites, instant messaging, and file sharing offer, research has shown. The use of such innovations in the corporate world could "increase savings, productivity and profits", but many companies are sceptical about reaching out to get involved in the movement.
The survey found strong usage of these resources amongst single people and teenagers, particularly for entertainment and keeping in touch with friends and family.
Whilst I agree that businesses who refuse to harness the social networking sea change risk betraying their Luddite complexions, I'm not sure I'd feel completely comfortable about, for example, being recruited for a new job through Twitter or Facebook. Delta OKs deal to take over Northwest
Delta Airlines has reached an agreement with Northwest Airlines to merge and create the world's biggest carrier. The combined airline will have an enterprise worth $17.7 billion. The airline will be based in Atlanta and Delta CEO Richard Anderson will head the combined company.

Chinese oil firm PetroChina has trumped US rival Exxon Mobil to become the world's biggest firm by market value on its first day of trading in Shanghai. With a market value of $966.05bn, it's almost twice the $488bn value of oil producer Exxon Mobil.
