    • Al Gore criticizes U.S. and China

So with many European countries and Japan adopting environmentally friendly policies, the U.S. and China still haven't joined any treaties, including the Kyoto Protol a few years ago. As China's economy grows, its energy consumption is growing at a huge rate. The U.S. produces 42% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions as it is. It's time for these two countries to set aside conservative fiscal propaganda and join the fight against climate change. • World AIDS Day

So December 1 was technically World AIDS Day but at UCLA it was celebrated on November 30th. With the help of groups like WAC and Dance Marathon, students united in supporting those who are infected with HIV/AIDS and pledged their support in the fight against HIV/AIDS. With speakers and performances, the event was very moving and hopefully everyone will realize that HIV/AIDS can happen to anyone. Get tested and help those in need! • LA River

So surprisingly, LA used to be a river city (maybe it still is somewhat). The LA river used to meander through the LA basin and was a very important part of the ecosystem. The LA basin was actually a former a floodplain. So, during the early parts of the 20th century, city officials in LA decided to channelize the river to prevent flooding. Friends of the LA River, an environmental group that wants to incorporate the river more into the city of LA, is trying to gain support for its cause. The LA river is very cool and has a lot of potential. Check out the website! So surprisingly, LA used to be a river city (maybe it still is somewhat). • Google fades to Black, but not out.

Searching the web is something we all do (obviously). But reports have indicated that if Google, being as popular as it is, were to switch to a black or dark ground color there would be significant savings in energy. The debate continues as to if this theory is actual, but Blackle has put the hypothesis to the test with its new site.

Blackle uses Google to search the web, but does so with a black ground to save watts used by your computer. Also, the results are energy conservation focused. And, if nothing else it reminds you that every little bit helps in conserving energy - whether you are trying to prevent global warming, or just don't want to see your electric bill this month be greater than your paycheck, again.

    • Oceans!

      Hey everyone,

As of now oceans constitute about 85% of the Earth's surface and so many aspects of oceanic ecosystems help to stabilize our way of life. Many aspects of the ocean life is being threatened by human activity. It's time that we take a stand and not let corporations and their influence on government destroy a delicate cycle of life. I really recommend Discovery Channel's Planet Earth because they have a great segment on oceans.
