An easy answer to the Raiders Chaos
The soap opera that is the Oakland Raiders front office makes for great theater, but a horrid way to run a professional football franchise. The biggest piece to the drama is the lack of any significant official comments one way or another on the situation dating back to the beginning of the Lane Kiffin saga in January. There is one way that this drama could be put to bed for good, and that would be for Al Davis to hold court with the media and answer some questions about what is going on inside Raiders headquarters. Tarnished Icon: is Al Davis at the center of the Oakland Raiders' crisis?
There are few names in sports that elicit a passionate visceral response, but the name Al Davis has a nearly universal effect. He is the man who built the Oakland Raiders into a powerhouse, but he has also been the captain of the ship that has gone 19-62 since Super Bowl XXXVII. Why We Love Al Davis
With all the talk of "mavericks" in this election season, we in Current's PDIG, as part of our enduring Commitment to Excellence, would like to celebrate the true original maverick of the AFL and NFL - the man who defied Pete Rozelle, the master of the vertical passing game, the progenitor of pride and poise, the only man who could give George Steinbrenner tips on how to fire a coach, the denizen of the track suit, the individual solely responsible for the continuing presence of Brylcreem on our drugstore shelves, the Managing General Partner of the mighty Oakland Raiders himself, the inimitable Allen "Al" Davis.
Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories of this towering and still ever-so-vital presence on the American sporting landscape. With all the talk of "mavericks" in this election season, we in Current's PDIG, as part of our enduring Commitment to E... more -
Clippers reach verbal agreement to sign Baron Davis - 5 years/ $65-Million
I guess B-Dizzle doesn't believe anymore. Sorry, Warriors fans but you had to know this was coming when he opted out of his deal. The chance to go home and play in LA with Elton Brand & the rest of the up & coming Clips was just too strong to pass up.
"Baron Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, told The Times that they have a verbal agreement to sign with the Clippers."
Davis, a former All-Star point guard, is expected to sign a contract in the five-year, $65-million range.
"From a basketball standpoint it's always been about winning for Baron," Ramasar said. "This presented a good opportunity to do that to pair him with Chris Kaman and Elton Brand is expected back." I guess B-Dizzle doesn't believe anymore. Sorry, Warriors fans but you had to know this was coming when he opted out of his deal.... more -
Why the Warriors Missed the Playoffs
Nelson
Baron
Jack
Harrington
Nelson is a genius when it comes to individual games, but his up-tempo style of basketball is the main reason the Warriors missed the playoffs. He ran the team to death; by the last month of the regular season, the team ran out of juice. This could have been remedied if Nellie had gone to the bench more often. As a Warriors fan, my biggest concern was Nellie not playing the rookie Brandon Wright. It seemed like nothing Wright did on the court affected Nellie's decision to play him or not to play him. He was a defensive force when he was in, turning people away left and right. And he could put the ball in the hoop. Buike showed he could play in crucial moments, a solid person to come off the bench. Pietrus played well toward the end of the season. CJ Watson could have also been a solid backup for Baron if he was given the chance.
Baron is a great basketball player 50% of the time. The other 50% he takes wild shots and plays too loose with the ball. If he is not shooting well, he will shoot more, until he starts to shoot better. He whines about most fouls called on him. I would like to see Baron traded for some draft picks this off-season.
Jackson is a fan favorite. Why? He has the ability to make big shots in crucial situations. He is not afraid to shoot, even if he is having an off-night. He averaged about 20 points a game, but shot the rock at a humbling 40%. He was a pure volume shooter, and that is what allowed him to score such high numbers. He could make the clutch shot, but odds are, he is why the game is close. Making a big fourth quarter shot does not take away from the fact that he had missed his previous seven.
Harrington is the opposite of consistent. He is another wild shooter who plays little defense. He is one of the Warriors big men but on any other team he would be playing SF. Nelson Baron Jack Harrington ... more -

C. Webb is back in O-Town!!!
Chris Webber told ESPN.com on Monday night that he will arrive in Oakland on Tuesday to formally re-join the Golden State Warriors.
Webber: "I'll be there tomorrow," Webber said via e-mail. "It's a done deal."
A five-time All-Star, Webber began his career in Golden State, winning Rookie of the Year in 1993-94. He had a falling out with Don Nelson, however, and was shipped to the then Washington Bullets after only one season.
In a 14-year career, the Michigan product has averaged 20.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
Nelson lasted for only one more year in Golden State after Webber left, coaching the New York Knicks for one season and the Dallas Mavericks for eight more before returning to the Warriors last season.
He has said that he will do whatever it takes to mend the fences with Webber for the good of the team. Chris Webber told ESPN.com on Monday night that he will arrive in Oakland on Tuesday to formally re-join the Golden State Warriors. ... more -
Davis to Kiffin: just resign, baby
Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis has been pushing for coach Lane Kiffin to resign and is considering Dennis Green as a potential replacement, sources close to Kiffin and the team said.
Davis has gone so far as to draft a letter of resignation for Kiffin to sign, a source said. Kiffin has refused to do so but has dared Davis to fire him instead. The letter, the source said, was sent to Kiffin two weeks ago.

McFadden's Makin the Leap & Going Pro
Who didn't see this coming? I actually can't believe that some people thought that this guy would stay around. I think after Matt Leinart decided to stay everyone thinks, "Oh well this guy has something to play for next year in college". The truth is in the game of Football you jump into the pro's whenever you can and especially if you are likely to be the first or second player drafted at your position. Those signing bonuses just don't come back around again and this guys draft value was just to good to pass up. Safe travels and good luck with big boys Darren.

From the article
FAYETTEVILLE ? Darren McFadden isn't sticking around for another run at the Heisman Trophy. The Arkansas All-American announced Monday he'll skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft.
"When I was growing up, I dreamed of playing for the Razorbacks," McFadden said. "Now, the time has come for me to pursue another dream of mine ? playing in the NFL." Who didn't see this coming? I actually can't believe that some people thought that this guy would stay around. I think after... more -
