    • Congestion Pricing Fails in NYC

People are calling this a major failure for the Bloomberg adminstration--but what's interesting here is that he doesnt have as much power as a quiet little man up in Albany--Sheldon Silver. That guy is the one who really calls the BIG SHOTS in New York State--including New York City--and he's mostly unaccountable to most of the NY Voting public (more people vote directly for Bloomberg that Silver--by a LONG SHOT).

As a former Queens(lander)--who left there about a year ago and YES--had a car. I did not support this initiative without first improving mass transit options. I know that could be considered the CART before the pricing plan--but its not fair in NEW YORK to TAX the poorer people on the outter borroughs in order to make the lives on those FAT CAT ELITES on Manhattan island move more smoothly.

I know that Manhattan, as the heart of the area is more diverse than that--but this is really something that I think should at minimum cost all New Yorkers equally--which this plan does not.

    • Bloomberg: I’m Not Running for President, but ...

More of the same won’t do, on the economy or any other issue. We need innovative ideas, bold action and courageous leadership. That’s not just empty rhetoric, and the idea that we have the ability to solve our toughest problems isn’t some pie-in-the-sky dream. More of the same won’t do, on the economy or any other issue. • Mayor Bloomberg: I'm not running for president...

But he is going to try to influence this election. To try to avoid the failures of the bi-polar, bipartisan system.

Inherent within the two party is the tendency to seek failure when the going gets tough since at the end of the term its always a "COKE" or "PEPSI" proposition... and WE as a nation truly have been having the same conversation for roughly 40+ years... maybe more..

    • Really, Ralph?

Apparently Ralph is looking in to another presidential bid - trying to assess whether he's got the volunteers and could raise the money to make the effort to get on the ballots as a Green party candidate.

Rudy Giuliani has been fund-raising, advertising and debating, but he's still getting flak for coming late to the party by skipping Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina etc. and pinning his candidacy on the big states starting with Florida...what kind of reception can Ralph Nader (already an unpopular figure blamed by many democrats for siphoning enough votes from Al Gore in 2000 to tip the election to George Bush) expect coming in for the general election after skipping the primaries altogether? Same for Michael Bloomberg, who is also reportedly looking into making a bid - seems unfair that these guys can waltz in to face off against whoever the nominees end up being, who are bound to be a bit weary and worn after such a tough primary season.

I get it - we have a two party system that doesn't leave much room for third party candidates. But Ron Paul has been in there slugging it out...

    • Rockefeller Center Christmas tree goes LED

It looks like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be a considerably smaller energy hog this holiday season than it has been in years past, as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced yesterday that the tree will be lit up with LED lights for the first time - 30,000 of 'em, to be specific. That'll apparently reduce the tree's energy consumption from 3,510 kilowatt hours per day to just 1,297 -- a savings that, as the AP points out, is roughly equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by a typical 2,000-square-foot house in a month. While it's not clear if it'll be used for the tree or not, the owners of Rockefeller Center also took the opportunity to show off a new 365-panel solar array on the roof of one of the complex's buildings, which is apparently big enough to lay claim to the title of the largest privately owned solar roof in Manhattan. • 4th Woman Joins U.S. Bias Suit Against Bloomberg L.P.

Another woman has joined the federal government’s lawsuit against Bloomberg L.P., the financial services and media company founded by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, accusing the company of discriminating against pregnant employees.

The woman, Monica Prestia, says in the lawsuit that she was hired as an account executive with Bloomberg in 1997 and within two years was promoted to Latin American sales manager for Bloomberg Television. After she had her first child in 2005, she received the worst performance review of her career, her compensation fell, and a supervisor who could not have children of her own was openly hostile to her, the suit claims. The hostility only increased when Ms. Prestia complained to the Human Resources Department, which did not take action, the complaint states.

This is definitely a compelling aspect of Corporate America. What do you think?
