    • Top 10 New Species Named (2007)

Thousands of new plant and animal species were discovered in 2007, though only 10 were bizarre enough, lethal enough or just plain cool enough to garner spots on a new Top-10 list.

Each year, the International Institute for Species Exploration (IISE) at Arizona State University issues the Top 10 New Species list, which spotlights flora and fauna described during the previous year, so in this case 2007.

      ---more at link---

I find it fascinating that for as long as humans have been searching that they still are encountering new species.

    • Declining Population affects Japan's Coming of Age Day: Seijin-no-Hi Part II

2007 was the lowest turn out for Adult Day in 20 years.

"The overall figure of today's 20 year olds is a grim 1.09% of the entire population. This year's low numbers has rekindled the brooding fear of a top-heavy population of the elderly over a smaller population of youth."

    • Samurai Dave's 2007 In Review

Another year has come and gone and in soppy melodramatic fashion, it's time to look back on all we've done and didn't do. Instead of focusing on love or lack there of or personal growth, I've look back through the magic of film and video on all the places and things I saw in 2007.

The following is a photo montage video of the travels, festivals, and events I experienced in 2007. It's a little too long for Current (8 and half minutes!) so I'm just posting my Youtube Link.

I've got photos of sumo, ninja, geisha, samurai, medieval Italian towns, German castles, a slew of Japanese festivals, and one good ole dog.

For more info on the photos, check my blog at:

The song is called "Only Once" which I think appropiate for life and traveling. You've only got one life - go somewhere and do something.

It will collect more sun energy? Put mirrors to the Solar tower's wall ! More potential? More capacity? This is the PS10 solar power tower. Seville, Spain.

It will collect more sun energy, because the solar tower/sun tower's wall mirror (1) reflect sun energy to the other sun panels, which are in the ground (2) / floor, than they collect from the sun direct too? And efficient / stronger sun energy goes to the top? (3)

I reflect to Al Gore's BBC radio "Gore helping 'planet savers'" speech. 13.11.2007
(Former US Vice President Al Gore wants to help entrepreneurs who have ideas to help save the planet. )

This is an idea from Hungary to Alliens for Climate Protection to Mr. Al Gore and Parkins. (Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, John Doerr)

    • The Five Coolest Hacks of 2007

Nothing was sacred to hackers in '07 -- not cars, not truckers, and not even the stock exchange. Dark Reading reviews five hacks that went after everyday things we take for granted even more than our PC's -- our car navigation system, a trucker's freight, WiFi connections, iPhone, and (gulp) the electronic financial trading systems that record our stock purchases and other online transactions. Nothing was sacred to hackers in '07 -- not cars, not truckers, and not even the stock exchange. Dark Reading reviews five hacks ... more

    • NYC ball drop gets a birthday and a makeover

Oh how lucky! New York's most famous tradition, Time Square ball drop, celebrates it's 100th birthday today (Monday).

For it's present ... a makeover. Not just any makeover, an eco-friendly makeover:

This year the 1,415-pound ball has been outfitted with more than 9,500 energy-efficient light-emitting diodes that will illuminate the ball's more than 600 crystals. The LEDs will use the same amount of electricity as about 10 toasters, say event officials.
