    • This is Brilliant, my dear Watson

Most are familiar with the movies and novels that surround the fiction icon, Sherlock Holmes, and his well to do buddy, Watson. Now, picture the two in your mind I am pretty sure you are envisioning Sherlock as a paled skin, fairly dark haired man. And then Watson, a little older and possibly white haired (Or maybe those our just my imaginative juices). Now picture, Will Ferrell, famous for "Semi-Pro," "Elf," and many others as Watson. And Sherlock Holmes will be played by Sacha Baron Cohen most famous for the movie, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Mae Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." Hmm, I don't now about you but, if their is any mystery to be solved, it's why these guys were picked for the part! As a side note, it would be one hell of a comedy, if only Sherlock Holmes books were originally comedies..... • Sherlock Holmes comedy movie with Cohen and Ferrell

Comedians Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell will star in the upcoming untitled film about Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick.

The makers say they plan to reverse the traditional relation ship of Sherlock and Watson by making Watson the clever problem solver.

Matt Tolmach, the co-president of Columbia Pictures, tells Variety, “Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh.”

    • Elementary, Dear Moviegoers

Sometimes a movie sounds so amazing at the outset, all we can do is hold our breath and hope it doesn't get screwed up. Such is the case with the latest Judd Apatow comedy, an untitled take on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories.

Variety reports that Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell will play Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively. The casting reunites the funnymen, who were racing rivals in "Talladega Nights." Etan Cohen, who wrote the upcoming (and totally outrageous -- Robert Downey Jr. in blackface?!) comedy "Tropic Thunder," is working on the script.

And of course, this movie is not to be confused with Guy "I am totes still married to Madonna" Ritchie's dramatic version of the sleuth stories in the works at Warner Bros. So don't get it twisted.

Do you like your Sherlock funny or fraught with peril?

A new biography illuminates the passion behind the creator of Sherlock Holmes: newly published letters show the role of the supernatural

t is odd that so much comfort is to be had from Sherlock Holmes, given the brutal violence of his adventures. Not only are those who cross his path routinely shot, bludgeoned, or knifed, they run the risk of being starved, buried alive, attacked by huge and frenzied hounds, killed by horses, jellyfish, or venomous snakes, asphyxiated with toxic vapours, afflicted with foul diseases, or crushed in giant iron presses. They might lose a thumb or an ear; occasionally they lose their minds. Yet Holmes is the most consoling of literary icons. He cannot always prevent crime or punish the criminal, but he never fails to explain what has happened, and how, and why. The prosaic Watson likes to claim that his hero is infallible because he scorns the emotional baggage that befuddles the judgement of lesser men. In fact these stories are tense with feeling, for Holmes’s hatred of wrongdoing is a passion rather than an intellectual commitment.
