Can McCain Break the Democrat Hold on the Indian Vote?
"It makes perfect sense. There has been little improvement in Indian country under the Democrats. Conditions in South Dakota reservations certainly haven’t improved under Daschle. What’s an Indian to do politically? "I'm going to work with Sen. Thune's staff,” says Means, “and the state Republican Party, and that will open doors to work with the National Republican Party to completely change Indian policy in America."
For some years, in fact, Means has recognized the impotence of the Democratic Party’s approach to Indian problems. He joined the Libertarian Party in 1987, and ran as the Libertarian candidate for governor of New Mexico in 2002. “What is an American? I believe an American loves to be free. You are free to be responsible. That's the only rule you should understand,” Means says.
That American freedom does not exist on the great Indian reservations. In fact, tyrannical communism reigns on the reservations. Means explains, “This [America] is the only place where communism is successfully practiced in the world. Communism is alive and well on Indian reservations run by the United States government.”
The Republican ticket may offer Indians an alternative, says Thune, and he has more than just Russell Means behind him.
Bruce Whalen, also an Oglala Sioux of Pine Ridge, is committee chairman of the Republican Party in Shannon County. Whalen says, "I know there's a lot of Republicans out there on Pine Ridge. They just don't know it yet.”
Whalen believes the Republican Party more closely mirrors his traditional Lakota values than the Democratic Party. Those values are respect for life, limited government, sovereignty and local control.
McCain should be in a better position to reach out to the tribes with his experience in Arizona."

Who are these Libertarians, and why should we care?
[U]nderstanding libertarianism is vital if the United States is ever to reverse the current 100-year trend away from freedom. What most Americans don’t know is that libertarianism is simply the modern political label given to the philosophy that the United States was founded upon. It is the philosophy of individual liberty. Without rediscovering what that means, the United States may soon be a glorious experiment with self governance by a free people that ultimately devolved into just one more socialist mediocrity or authoritarian nightmare...
... While most Americans still consider the United States the “land of the free,” few probably understand that “free” means individual liberty. Most Americans in 2008 have either never heard of individual liberty, or haven’t heard about it in so long that they have forgotten what it means. After decades of immersion in collectivist ideology, most Americans have been led to believe that freedom is “democracy.” Most Americans are content to be told that they are free, so long as the evening news explains why the most recent decisions made about their lives are really in their best interests. They are content to derive their “freedom” from government.
Imagine the presidential campaign of 1796 with today’s political frontrunners and today’s American psyche. John McCain is promising a generous helping of warfare, without neglecting essential welfare. Barack Obama is promising a generous helping of welfare, without neglecting essential warfare (at least on behalf of Israel). As these two titans battle for the prize, Thomas Jefferson, the Libertarian candidate, and John Adams, the Constitution Party candidate, answer the occasional question from the debate moderator in those states where they are able to get onto the ballot and into the debates at all. What might our country have become if this had been reality in 1796? What is it becoming now?
Certainly there will not be a Libertarian Party candidate elected president in 2008, nor likely in 2012 or 2016. The most successful LP candidate for president was Ed Clark in the 1980 election, with a whopping 1% of the vote. While it would be wonderful to see the Libertarian political party gain prominence and power, this is not the essential priority. What is much more important is that the American people start rediscovering libertarianism, the philosophy of individual liberty, and once again start demanding to be free. Libertarianism must again dominate the platforms of all political parties, as it once did, if the present trends toward socialism and authoritarianism are to reverse. Only when a libertarian Republican runs against a libertarian Democrat, with perhaps even a libertarian third party candidate in contention, will we have a chance to restore the freedom that fueled America’s mercurial rise to greatness. Only by restoring individual liberty will America return to prosperity, and once again become the land of the free.

Raising an Issue: Californian Independence
It's a small movement today - only one website is devoted to it, and few really care about the subject. California's economy could quite possibly be the seventh largest in the world, with effective agriculture, wine production, gold, and many other recources (including marijuana, but that doesn't count, really). We have the country's largest population, and a system of direct democracy.
Problem is, we have to deal with the federal government. Our taxes go to them, and they spend very little of it on us (something I forgot to mention in the blog I'm linking to). I urge Californians to get informed on the issue, especially with the Bush administration, and quite possibly, a "McCain administration," that will further bring us all down.
Also, don't forget the dollar is worth 41% less than it was before Bush. It's a small movement today - only one website is devoted to it, and few really care about the subject. California's economy could qu... more -

Libertarian Party commends Paul for opening 'doors for liberty'
Party says Paul fought an uphill battle for liberty in his quest for the GOP nomination
Following the close of Ron Paul's presidential campaign, the Libertarian Party thanked Paul for all that he had done for liberty in his presidential bid. "Paul fought an uphill battle for liberty every day in his presidential campaign against all of the big-government juggernauts of the Republican Party," says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis.
"Paul opened many doors for liberty in this nation through his presidential campaign," Davis continued. "By that standard--of which all politicians should be judged--he won a bigger victory than John McCain or Barack Obama ever will. Ron Paul worked to empower the people, not the government. That is a rare trait in today's political world."

A Poem for 21st Century Paranoics
by beedee
the camera is my lover
it's clarity is my vision
it haunts my dreams
it holds me back
the camera needs me
my constant attention
it scorns my affection
but never looks away
but for all its sway
the camera doesn't know
my heart
my mind
the truth
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
This poem was inspired by David Brin's prescient book "The Transparent Society" and dedicated to all of the cameras I see in every grocery store and every building lobby. To those two luscious jugs that hang below the NYPD Security Boxes on every other street light on every major street.
Please feel free to comment below with your own love letters to the cameras that are springing up in your hometown. You know where they are, don't you?

Do we need a change?
With the decision made by the Democratic Party about the states of Florida and Michigan, I personally have wondered if the current system of government in the United States even works. In this blog I look to the European Union and it's system, as perhaps a guideline for American government. Instead of a federalized country, perhaps a supernational organization, like the EU, with a parliament and a presidency, but instead of the central government having control over the states, the states have control of the central government.
Third party movements are a joke in a big nation like the USA. Only in smaller countries are they even possible. Each state can have it's own elections, it's own politics, but the 50 states, and perhaps more, will be allied. The European Union seems to be ahead of most others in human rights, humanitarian efforts, and the like.
It's my opinion. Maybe it will be yours. With the decision made by the Democratic Party about the states of Florida and Michigan, I personally have wondered if the current sys... more -
Stay Teen - Rational Sex Education

Sorry, I couldn't find any other little thumbnail image. In this blog I cover the only rational sex education website I have seen, stayteen.org. It lists the benefits of either path: abstine... more
