    • Britain in danger of 'ethnic cold war'

The race watchdog chief Trevor Phillips has warned that the UK is in danger of a 'cold war' between ethnic communities.

He went onto to say that now was the time to hold a debate on immigration without people being accused of racism. In response to the 'cold war' claims, Immigration Minister Liam Byrne yesterday suggested that "the biggest changes for 45 years, including a points system, a single border force and reintroduction of a system to count people in and out," all needed to be introduced.

Phillips explained that the country has seen 'the emergence of a kind of cold war in some areas where very separate communities exist side by side with poor communication across racial or religious lines."

He believes that the country's uncontrolled immigration has encouraged racism.

    • Big Brother Britain

The British Government has new plans for personal data to be collected from people traveling between countries inside the EU and stored away for 13 years to help "profile" suspects. Brussels is already considering controversial plans to collect 19 pieces of information from any person traveling into the EU, but British plans would like to push this further.

They want the data collection to extend to sea, air and rail travel, including domestic flights and flights between EU countries. They also want to be able to share that data with countries outside of the EU and are the only country in Europe who want the plans to cover "more general public policy purposes" besides fighting terrorism and organised crime.

The data includes personally identifiable information such as credit card details and mobile phone numbers. Civil libertarians and data protection officials have said that the plans are draconian and probably ineffective. Britain leads the world as the most advanced surveillance state with the most CCTV cameras per capita in the world, are these new plans a step to far?

Fishermen around the UK are being forced to throw thousands of pounds of dead fish back into the ocean due to strict EU regulations. Some have even had to hang up their orange overalls. The rules state they are not aloud to over fish cod but in recent years the cod numbers have been steadily rising. The debate is on - Does the EU change quota rules or do fishermen give up fishing and just become...well...men.
