    • Doctors can't use bias to deny gays treatment

"California doctors who have religious objections to gays and lesbians must nevertheless treat them the same as any other patient or find a colleague in the office who will do so, the state Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday."

Isn't this what the Hippocratic Oath is for in the first place?

    • Boris abolishes gay advisory panel - OutRage! are not outraged

The radical gay rights group OutRage! has backed the Conservative Mayor of London's decision to scrap a short-lived Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Advisory Panel, reports Pink News.

The panel (formed by Ken Livingstone) only held one meeting before the hand-over to prize buffoon Boris Johnson took place in May, and OutRage! have welcomed its abolition:

"It was elitist, unelected, unaccountable and anti-democratic," says Brett Lock.

But will Conservative Boris - who has a history of making homophobic comments - replace the body with some other kind of group to represent the rights and points of views of LGBT Londoners? Or will LGBT issues be swept under the carpet completely? What would you tell buffoon Boris about LGBT life if you had the chance?

    • Could CA. gay marriage bring aftershocks for Measure 36?

Some in Oregon have watched the unfolding CA. gay marriage victory with a sense of detachment, maybe even skepticism. But, with the new victory for gay marriage in California comes an undercurrent, or maybe aftershocks. Some are starting to wonder what this could mean for OR. • Conservative gay weddings? Same-sex couples opt for traditional wedding customs

Who would have thought same-sex weddings could be this conservative? According to the Advocate, the majority of same-sex couples decide to have more or less traditional wedding ceremonies.

Given that there are no long-established homosexual wedding rituals, this might come as a surprise to those who expected gay and lesbian couples to be somewhat more innovative and daring. However, Los-Angeles-based wedding planner Wendy Rhodes, argues that her homosexual customers' wishes are quite traditional and conventional, including common features such as wedding invitations, festive music, formal attire, white wedding cake, champagne and flowers. According to Rhodes, same-sex couples "want everything they can possibly have in their wedding. People all dream of the same things when they think of a wedding.''

If this points to the fact that wedding trends have a universal quality and transgress borders of sexual orientation, a certain degree of flexibility and openness is inevitable when it comes to planning same-sex weddings. Who pays? Who walks down the aisle? Who gets the first dance? These are just some of the questions gay and lesbian couples have to deal with when planning their big day! According to Kathryn Hamm, president of GayWeddings.com, it is just a matter of time before these questions are answered and homosexual weddings become institutionalised: "The more mainstream same-sex weddings become, the more routine they'll become when it's not this interesting, sensational new thing''.

Hamm also raises the interesting point of the effect same-sex marriage will have on the way heterosexual couples deal with wedding traditions: ''The thing I'm curious about is what happens to all wedding ceremonies once there's marriage equality. How will same-sex marriages change the landscape for heterosexual couples?''

      What do you think?

    • Lesbian denied access to dying partner sues hospital

On Wednesday, 26th June 2008, Janice Langbehn sued the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for denying her the right to have access to her dying partner, Lisa Pond. The two women, who had been together for 18 years and had three children together, were about to embark on a family cruise when Pond collapsed and was rushed to hospital. Except for a 5-minute visit, Langbehn was not able to spend time with her partner as she lay dying, because the hospital did not recognise the two women as a family. In addition, after her partner's death, Langbehn was not allowed to access the death certificate, which in turn made it impossible for her to claim life insurance and Social Security benefits for their children. Langbehn is represented by Lambda Legal, the largest organisation fighting for civil rights of lesbian and gay citizens in the US. • Wired to be Gay

Scientists at the famous Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm have discovered that the brains of homosexual men and women are structured in the same way as the brains of straight people of their opposite gender. This study has also determined that this basic structural difference of the brains of homosexual people develops in the fetal stage, which means that homosexuals and lesbians were born that way. This will of course disappoint the rabid homphobes. Scientists at the famous Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm have discovered that the brains of homosexual men and women are structured... more

'60 minutes' aired an incredible journalistic piece on what could be called the US' most unnecessary policy; "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

Now a few days after, they are being hailed for the piece by most but drawing fire from some.

What do you guys think? Some would say "Who cares!? These people are willing to put their lives on the line like any other American solider, why not let them fight!?", while others would say "It's bad for the morale of the squad or the unit when they are having to worry about something like that and there is just no place for it!"

      Thoughts?

I actually heard about the rumors on this on the radio this morning. I dunno if it's the most reliable source in the world but that'd be great if it were true. It'd be cool to see someone from the hip-hop community come out to the public.

Anyone else got info on this?
