Nas Petitions with ColorOfChange/MoveOn in front of Fox News HQ
With the recent release of his album "Untitled", rapper Nas is more of an activist than ever. I has recently joined the ColorOfChange and MoveOn organizations to peititon against media giant Fox News. Nas denounces the racist propaganda aired on the news channel by citing examples such as Bill O'Reilly's attack on Michelle Obama using the phrase "lynching party", the infamous "terrorist fist jab", Michelle Obama as the Barack's "baby mama". He said: "Fox poisons this country every time they air racist propaganda and try to call it news. This should outrage every American that Fox uses hateful language to talk about the person that may be the first black president."
With over 600,000 signatures, ColorOfChange demands that network president Roger Ailes "find a solution to address racial stereotyping and hate-mongering before it hits the airwaves." Fox rejected the petitions, but Brave New Films says that Comedy Central's The Colbert Report will accept them instead.
If you haven't seen Nas' "Sly Fox" video, check it out here on Current by typing "Nas Takes On Sly Fox" in the search box. With the recent release of his album "Untitled", rapper Nas is more of an activist than ever. I has recently joined the Colo... more -

Obama: Unity '08
This is the rough conceptual mock up for my Obama in 30s (26 seconds really) spot for the moveon.org competition. We went ahead and filmed some motion picture footage for it but all the roto and color work took longer than the deadline allowed. In the end, neither the mock up nor the final were submitted. We will hope to have it done in time for the general election if and hopefully when Obama gets the Dem nom.
Hope you enjoy.
The concept was sort of derived from Hillary's "Children" spot... using the idea of the White House's "red crisis phone" and continuing from there. This is the rough conceptual mock up for my Obama in 30s (26 seconds really) spot for the moveon.org competition. We went ahead and fi... more -

Clinton slams Democratic activists at private fundraiser
Hillary sounds like Liebermann to me. He's no longer a Democrat. He's actually campaigning with McCain. Didn't Hillary state, 'She and McCain are the most qualified?' Maybe she was too tired to remember which party she represents?
At a small closed-door fundraiser after Super Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton blamed what she called the "activist base" of the Democratic Party -- and MoveOn.org in particular -- for many of her electoral defeats, saying activists had "flooded" state caucuses and "intimidated" her supporters, according to an audio recording of the event obtained by The Huffington Post.
"Moveon.org endorsed [Sen. Barack Obama] -- which is like a gusher of money that never seems to slow down," Clinton said to a meeting of donors. "We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn't even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that's what we're dealing with. And you know they turn out in great numbers. And they are very driven by their view of our positions, and it's primarily national security and foreign policy that drives them. I don't agree with them. They know I don't agree with them. So they flood into these caucuses and dominate them and really intimidate people who actually show up to support me."

"Obama in 30 Seconds" on location
If you're an Obama fan bit by the filmmaking bug, time is running out to put the finishing touches on your video entry for MoveOn.org's "Obama in 30 Seconds" contest.
The liberal advocacy group is offering a grand prize of $20,000 in video equipment for the best user-contributed 30-second-spot, which the organization plans on airing on television in Pennsylvania. Celebrity judges include Oliver Stone and Larry Lessig. April 15 is the submission deadline.
Wired.com recently followed a ragtag crew of filmmakers as they shot their entry on the streets of Oakland, California. The finished ad shows a young mother walking uncertainly past the scene of a traffic accident, reluctant to get involved. Will the pleading expression on her daughter's moppet face make her realize that, Yes, She Can help build a better tomorrow … or at least pull the guy from the twisted wreakage of his car before it explodes? If you're an Obama fan bit by the filmmaking bug, time is running out to put the finishing touches on your video entry for MoveOn... more -
MoveOn.org pushes for Obama
I received the following email from "moveon.org" today and I think the contest is perfectly suited to the talents of CURRENT.COM members. Go for it and good luck.
Dear MoveOn member:
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: make a 30-second TV ad that tells the nation why Barack Obama should be our next President.
If you and your friends have writing, acting, or video editing talent—whether you're a total amateur or a total pro—now is the time to use your creativity to help Obama win.
Today, we're launching an ad contest called "Obama in 30 Seconds." Anyone can make an ad about Obama between now and April 1. The public will vote on the best ads, and a panel of top artists, film professionals, and netroots heroes will pick a winner from among the finalists. (Judges include Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Naomi Wolf, Oliver Stone, John Legend, Donna Edwards, and Markos Moulitsas. The full list is below.)
We'll air the winning Obama ad nationally, and the winner will receive a gift certificate for $20,000 in video equipment. Whether you're definitely interested or need time to think about it, let us know—we'll keep you in the loop as the contest proceeds. Get contest details, sign up, and watch a short video of MoveOn's Eli Pariser describing the contest by clicking here: I received the following email from "moveon.org" today and I think the contest is perfectly suited to the talents of CURRENT... more -
