Robert F Kennedy Jr., Jesse Jackson and Greg Palast Team Up for Election Integrity
Bobby Kennedy Jr., Rev. Jesse Jackson and I invite you to join us to co-sponsor the voter guide, “Steal Back Your Vote.”
Your organization, group, website, radio program - we need you to add your name, your heart, your effort to prevent a repeat of 2000 and 2004.
Steal Back Your Vote lays out the Six Ways They’re Stealing the Election – and the Seven Ways you can Steal It Back. It’s a 24-page downloadable graphic guide - an investigative comic book. It’s non-partisan, it’s humorous, it’s harrowing and it’s helpful.
And we need your name on it. The non-partisan guide’s initial sponsors include Voto Latino, Operation Rainbow/PUSH, Progressive Magazine and VoteRescue; individual sponsors include troubadour Willie Nelson and Code Pink’s Annie Nelson.
It won't cost your group a dime - but it does require a commitment to get out the word to your members or audience on the practical ways to protect your ballot from the vote-rustlers.
You know Bobby’s work. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. blew the lid off the Theft of 2004 in his masterful Rolling Stone article. Many of you know me for my BBC television report that exposed Katherine Harris' "fake felon purge" of Black citizens in 2000.
Now RFK Jr. and I have teamed up to investigate THE THEFT OF 2008.
We can bring in your group for you gratis thanks the generosity of the Puffin Foundation, The Nation Institute, Threshold Foundation and the Palast Investigative Fund.
Jim Hightower and Air America’s Clout! have joined.
How about YOU?
To sign on as a group or media co-sponsor, we don’t require your money. We do expect your ACTIONS.
Just take these two steps:
#1. Respond with a “yes” to StealBackYourVote@GregPalast.com Tell me how you want to be listed. If you have a logo and a link we’ll put them on our website, StealBackYourVote.org
#2. Go to www.StealBackYourVote.org and you’ll find excerpts from the Voter Guide - you can grab them to post on your own website. Click here to get the first story in the guide - "Night of the Living Vote Snatchers." Illustrated by graphic gonzos Ted Rall, Lukas Ketner and Troubletown's Lloyd Dangle.
Take the ‘toons. Later, we'll send you a link to put on your site to allow your members, readers or listeners to download the guide. For now, they can sign up for its release.
If you can’t officially sponsor, you can still post a page or two from the voter guide comic book.
When we launch in two weeks, we'll send you a link for your site and a note to send to your lists. Your readers/members/listeners can then download the complete guide for a donation of as little as a dollar.
Get informed. Kennedy and I are about to publish our report and put it on the airwaves. Sign up and get the notice- via RSS, MySpace, facebook or e-mail and you’ll be the first to know when the news breaks.
BROADCASTERS: Pull down our Steal Back Your Vote! video and audio PSAs from the likes of Jim Hightower, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Willie Nelson and Mimi Kennedy and add it to your podcast or radio program.
Individuals: Want to add your name to the project and help us spread the word? Make a tax-deductible donation of at least $100 to sponsor the Steal Back Your Vote site and $500 to sponsor the guide itself. We'll add your name with gratitude.
Reverend Jackson has asked me to pass on these words: "We've marched too long, worked too hard, and died too young to let them steal our vote. For Dr. King, for Mandela, for Medgar Evers, for Goodman, Chaney and Schwerner - download it and fight back!"
Respectfully,
Greg Palast

An American Idol in Germany - Obamania
US presidential candidate Barack Obama will land in Berlin on Thursday. Europeans have fallen in love with the Democrat, mostly because he's not Bush. But they may not like what they hear this week.
He has already found his spot at the Brandenburg Gate. Indeed, it's where he speaks every day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. -- his voice, met with wild cheers from his audience, is enough to send shivers down one's spine even today. After giving his speech, he is driven in an open limousine through Berlin, where hundreds of thousands line the streets, chanting: "Kennedy, Kennedy."
His eternal spot in Berlin is in a museum on Pariser Platz, directly across the square from the Brandenburg Gate. The museum, called "The Kennedys," represents the ultimate in a politician's achievements -- complete and utter hero worship. It is filled with attractive photographs, inspiring quotes and magnificence. The film constantly on screen there depicts former US President John F. Kennedy's appearance in Berlin in June, 1963, including the parade given in his honor and his speech in front of the Schöneberg Town Hall, where he famously said: "Ich bin ein Berliner" ("I am a Berliner").
Barack Obama's voice, by contrast, will not be heard at the Brandenburg Gate and he will not be gazing at the "The Kennedys" museum when he speaks in Berlin. Though he is often compared with Kennedy and sparks similar hopes, Obama hasn't come that far yet. He still lacks the kind of stature that would spare him from being ground through the mill of German politics. German Chancellor Angela Merkel turned down his request to speak at the Brandenburg Gate.

Lego Kennedy Space Center: 750,000-Brick Kennedy Space Center Is the Mother of All...
Forget about the Lego Airbus A380 and the Lego Death Star, because this video will show you the mother of all Lego models: the 750,000-brick Kennedy Space Center. Using 1,506 square feet, it took 2,500 hours to build. It includes a 6.13ft-tall Space Shuttle on the launch pad, the space center with a 9ft-long Saturn 1B rocket, and the Vehicle Assembly Building—8ft long x 6ft high x 5ft wide—made out of 50,000 Lego bricks. I know. Mindblowing. This thing is so massive that it can probably affect Earth's orbit. Update: if Lego's Kennedy Space Center is the mother of all Lego models, Giz reader Florian Frischmuth has sent us his pictures of the father: the 1,300,000-brick Lego Allianz Arena stadium in Munich, Germany. This titan contains a mindblowing 30,000 mini-figs inside. Party of Hope-Ted Kennedy 1980
Listen or read Ted Kennedy in his 1980 Democratic National Convention Address. There are many great moments in this. I have clipped in just a few below.
"We are the Party -- We are the Party of the New Freedom, the New Deal, and the New Frontier. We have always been the Party of hope. So this year let us offer new hope, new hope to an America uncertain about the present, but unsurpassed in its potential for the future."
------------------------------------
"We must not surrender to the relentless medical inflation that can bankrupt almost anyone and that may soon break the budgets of government at every level. Let us insist on real controls over what doctors and hospitals can charge, and let us resolve that the state of a family's health shall never depend on the size of a family's wealth.
The President, the Vice President, the members of Congress have a medical plan that meets their needs in full, and whenever senators and representatives catch a little cold, the Capitol physician will see them immediately, treat them promptly, fill a prescription on the spot. We do not get a bill even if we ask for it, and when do you think was the last time a member of Congress asked for a bill from the Federal Government? And I say again, as I have before, if health insurance is good enough for the President, the Vice President, the Congress of the United States, then it's good enough for you and every family in America." Clinton apologises for Kennedy comment
Democrat Hillary Clinton on Saturday moved to put out a firestorm sparked by her mention of the 1968 assassination of senator Robert Kennedy to justify prolonging her White House bid.
The New York senator hastily apologised after telling a newspaper board in South Dakota on Friday she could not understand calls for her to quit and arguing that history showed some past nominating contests had gone on into June.
"My husband (Bill Clinton) did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary, somewhere in the middle of June, right?" Mrs Clinton said in an interview with the Argus Leader newspaper editorial board.
"We all remember, Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California, I don't understand it," she said.
No assassination 'hint'
Campaign aides said she did not intend to hint at any potential assassination of rival Barack Obama, the Democratic front-runner who is seeking to become America's first black president.
The topic is fraught with sensitivity, especially for supporters of Obama, who accepted Secret Service protection last year long before it is usually offered to most presidential candidates, because of unspecified threats.
Hours after the remarks were released, Clinton launched a damage control effort, saying the Kennedys had been in her thoughts after Senator Edward Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer this week.
"I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation, and particularly for the Kennedy family, was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that, whatsoever," Mrs Clinton said.
Comment 'unfortunate'
Obama spokesman Bill Burton condemned her comment as "unfortunate" and said it "has no place in this campaign".
The Argus Leader's executive editor, Randell Beck, issued a statement saying: "(Clinton's) reference to Mr Kennedy's assassination appeared to focus on the timeline of his primary candidacy and not the assassination itself."
It was not the first time Clinton brought up the subject.
"Primary contests used to last a lot longer," she told Time magazine in March.
"We all remember the great tragedy of Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in LA. My husband didn't wrap up the nomination in 1992 until June. Having a primary contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual."
Kennedy defends Clinton
The late senator's son, Robert F Kennedy Jr, defended Clinton in an interview with The New York Times.
"I've heard her make that argument before," he was quoted as saying. "It sounds like she was invoking a familiar historical circumstance in support of her argument for continuing her campaign."
Still, Clinton faced an avalanche of media criticism for the remarks, which appears to heighten tensions with Obama's camp after a period of relative warming and fresh rumours of a potential joint ticket.
"To raise the spectre of a rival's assassination, even unintentionally, is to make a truly terrible thing real," said the Washington Post in an editorial.
"It sounds like one might be waiting for a terrible thing to happen, even if one isn't. It sounds almost like wishful thinking." Democrat Hillary Clinton on Saturday moved to put out a firestorm sparked by her mention of the 1968 assassination of senator Robert K... more -

American Rhetoric: Robert F. Kennedy -- Statement on the Assassination of Martin L...
Robert F. Kennedy shortly before his own assassination said,
" We can do well in this country. We will have difficult times. We've had difficult times in the past, but we -- and we will have difficult times in the future. It is not the end of violence; it is not the end of lawlessness; and it's not the end of disorder.
But the vast majority of white people and the vast majority of black people in this country want to live together, want to improve the quality of our life, and want justice for all human beings that abide in our land."

American Rhetoric: John F. Kennedy -- Inaugural Address
JFK's Inaugural Address where he famously challenged, "And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own."

The Next President's First Task: Politics & Power by Robert F. Kennedy, J...
Our friend Bill Brown up in Taos at www.nmglobalwarming.org sent this link to an important message on the earth from our eco hero Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Bill Brown writes:
Greetings, All -- Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., writing in the May issue of Vanity Fair, makes the salient point that our woefully inefficient, old-technology, backward looking fossil fuel economy "...has eroded our economic power, destroyed our moral authority, diminished our international influence and prestige, endangered our national security, and damaged our health and landscapes. It is subverting everything we value."
Importantly, this is happening whether or not we consider fossil fuel impacts on global warming and climate change. A new clean energy economy that relies on abundant, essentially unlimited resources and technologies that already exist to exploit these resources is a better idea than trying to struggle in vain to maintain an obsolescent fossil fuel economy that has pretty much run its course after a century or so of dominance.
Encapsulating an early 2007 statement by Jeremy Grantham, Chairman, GMO LLC [Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo, Boston/San Francisco] -- financial advisor to Vice-President Dick Cheney and Senator John Kerry, among others -- "...taking steps to reduce carbon emissions through conservation, efficiency, alternatives, and generally moving away from fossil fuels makes enormous sense. These steps will solve a a huge number of social and environmental problems that now exist, and these steps will save mega-billions in the long run even if global warming was not occurring. There is no rational downside to this effort."
