    • Screw the Sudafed: when your nose ain't great, masturbate!

Turns out that all those expensive cold remedies could be a waste of time after a new study into nasal congestion has unearthed a rather unusual treatment for men; masturbating!

According to a paper in the Journal of Medical Hypotheses, a man ejaculating could be "a potential treatment of nasal congestion in mature males."

"The emission phase of ejaculation is under the control of the sympathetic nervous system, which of course has lots of adrenergic receptors. The author reasons that ejaculation will stimulation adrenergic receptors in the refractory period immediately afterward, and stimulation of your adrenergic receptors will give you relief from your cold."

And what's even better than that? The author believes that with the correct planning, that us men could keep our nasal passages clear for the rest of our lives!

    • Sex can cure your cold?

Forget paracetamol, the treatment for nasal congestion is at your fingertips.

As reported by the Guardian, a researcher at Tabriz Medical University in Iran wrote a study on a new strategy for the treatment of nasal congestion in mature men.

"Ejaculation can be used as a potential treatment of nasal congestion because its emission phase provides a sympathetic stimulation and subsequent vasoconstriction and nasal decongestion. Also, the refractory period serves as a sympathetic reservoir and maintains the decongestive state for a considerable while."

And what about the dosage? "It can be done time-to-time to alleviate the congestion and the patient can adjust the number of intercourses or masturbations depending on the severity of the symptoms."

The study does not say whether there is a related or parallel treatment for women.

    • Feeling "left out in the cold," literally

A new study indicates that social isolation makes individuals feel physically cold and in need of hot foods and drinks.

According to a study published in Psychological Science, getting the cold shoulder is more than just a metaphor. Feeling cold is part of the social rejection experience.

The study found that individuals feel a considerable drop in room temperature when socially excluded; they literally experience being left out in the cold.

Findings show that the choice of hot soup and coffee over warm or room-temperature foods and beverages in such conditions may be a coping mechanism for loneliness and social isolation.

Loneliness not only induces anxiety and depression but also activates brain areas linked to the experience of physical pain.

University of Toronto psychologists concluded that the psychological world can bias an individual's sensation of the physical world, suggesting that emotional feelings are tied to physical sensations.

    • Forget global warming: Welcome to the new Ice Age --- really? We actually had MOR...

This looks like the opposite of the pods I've seen on current. Wonder what to make of it.
Anyhow, I thought I would post it since Global Warming is so "hot". Here they say we actually had thicker and more ice this year than in the past... Very interesting.
Personally I hope that neither ice nor floods come. But there is only so much one nation can do. Until the world is on board, we have to just trust in .... dare I say God? (don't hate me).
      Enjoy!

Forget global warming: Welcome to the new Ice Age
Lorne Gunter, National Post Published: Monday, February 25, 2008

Snow cover over North America and much of Siberia, Mongolia and China is greater than at any time since 1966.

The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. According to the NCDC, the average temperature in January "was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average."

Last month, Oleg Sorokhtin, a fellow of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, shrugged off manmade climate change as "a drop in the bucket." Showing that solar activity has entered an inactive phase, Prof. Sorokhtin advised people to "stock up on fur coats."

He is not alone. Kenneth Tapping of our own National Research Council, who oversees a giant radio telescope focused on the sun, is convinced we are in for a long period of severely cold weather if sunspot activity does not pick up soon.

It's way too early to claim the same is about to happen again, but then it's way too early for the hysteria of the global warmers, too.

***Please reference the above article, as most would not fit in this space. Explains cycles that the earth goes thru including mini cycles. I found it very interesting.***

      Thanks for reading.

    • CERN lab goes 'colder than space'

A vast physics experiment built in a tunnel below the French-Swiss border is fast becoming one of the coolest places in the Universe.

The Large Hadron Collider is entering the final stages of being lowered to a temperature of 1.9 Kelvin (-271C; -456F) - colder than deep space.

The LHC has thousands of magnets which will be maintained in this frigid condition using liquid helium.

The magnets are arranged in a ring that runs for 27km through the giant tunnel.

Once the LHC is operational, two particle beams - usually consisting of protons accelerated to high energies - will be fired down pipes running through the magnets.

These beams will then travel in opposite directions around the main ring at close to the speed of light.

At allotted points along the tunnel, the beams will cross paths, smashing into one another with cataclysmic force. Scientists hope to see new particles in the debris of these collisions, revealing fundamental new insights into the nature of the cosmos and how it came into being.

The most powerful physics experiment ever built, the LHC will re-create the conditions just after the Big Bang.

Currently, six out of the LHC's eight sectors are between 4.5 and 1.9 Kelvin, though all sectors of the machine have been down to 1.9 Kelvin at some stage over the last few months.

By comparison, the temperature in remote regions of outer space is about 2.7 Kelvin (-270C; -454F).

    • BRRR! Half the U.S. is freakin' freezin'!

The temperature in International Falls, Minnesota, fell to a record 40 below zero Monday, just a few days after the northern Minnesota town won a federal trademark making it officially the "Icebox of the Nation."

It was so cold that resident Nick McDougall couldn't even get his car trunk lid to close after he got out his charger to kick-start his dead battery. By late morning, the temperature had risen all the way to 18 -- below zero.

"This is about as cold as it gets, this is bad. There's no wind -- it's just cold," said McDougall, 48, a worker at The Fisherman, a convenience store and gas station in the town on the Canadian border. "People just don't go out, unless you have to go to work."

This is one thing I personally do NOT miss about being on the east side of the US! Don't forget your mittens!
