Lung specialist urges Automatic Organ Donation
A leading lung specialist has said Ireland should seriously consider automatic organ donation after death, to increase the number of transplant operations.
Mater Hospital consultant, Dr Jim Egan, said a change from the existing voluntary donation system to one of 'presumed consent' would save lives.
Currently around 600 patients are on the waiting list for an organ transplant here.
I've long been a supporter of this, It was pioneered in Argentina I believe and has saved many many lives
Remember that if you want to donate, an organ donor card isn't enough and isnt even that necessary as your next of kin decide. You MUST let you family know your decision. STARVING DOG EXPLOITED BY ARTIST AT HIS ART EXHIBITION
Target:Visual Arts Biennial of Central America
Sponsored by: CAROL WATERMANHi Animal Lovers
Please sign the petition to stop a repeat of this "masterpiece". A sick, starving dog from the streets, was exploited in an art Gallery in the name of "art".
How depraved can humans get. Help us put a stop to this. It's free of charge, there is no need to register, and it will only take 1 minute to save the life of an innocent creature.
Thank you for your time.
In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, for the benefit of his art promotion.
For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he supposedely escaped. Does it look like art to you? But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.
PLEASE HELP STOP HIM.

UPDATE: I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED TO THIS PETITION. DON'T LET THIS 'HOAX' OF THIS DOG DYING AT THE ART EXHIBITION, STOP YOU FROM REMAINING ACTIVE IN THE FUTURE. NO ANIMAL SHOULD EVER BE EXPLOITED! THE DOG PROBABLY DIED LATER, AFTER HE SUPPOSEDELY ESCAPED.
REMEMBER, THIS WAS STILL ANIMAL CRUELTY! FROM http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/20...
That dogs die in the street is a cruel fact of the Third World. It is now also the subject of a worldwide furore over an artistic stunt.
An attempt by an artist in Latin America to dramatise the act of canine death has become an internet sensation after tens of thousands of animal lover protested. But without real world substantiation, it appears that millions have fallen for a hoax.
The dog, named Natividad (Nativity) was video taped in a Nicaraguan art gallery, tied to the wall, beset by mange and supposedly dying from starvation. When the video was posted on YouTube, the artist Guillermo Vargas, also known as Habacuc, was subject to death threats posted on the internet. "If I ever meet you I will kill you, and not the way they did with that dog," said one outraged contributor.
The artist claims he had received dozens of death threats. Websites, blogs and newspapers all reported what appeared to be a stunningly callous exhibition. To serve his point, the Costa Rican artist had scattered dog biscuits just beyond the reach of the rope.
The installation, titled "Eres Lo Que Lees" (You Are What You Read) was booked to last three hours. The manic depravities of the Nicaraguan street were further represented by a recording of a band playing the Sandinista anthem backwards.
Habacuc was also reported to have set fire to 175 pieces of crack cocaine in a giant incense burner.
"I was physically sick after hearing what this sub-human did - not even animals do this to their weak - they kill them outright to save them the pain of suffering," wrote Liz Day on baltimoresun.com.
A brewing storm became a howling rage when the 32-year-old said the dog had died, just as it would have done in the streets of Managua.
"If you publicly display one of these starving creatures, such as the case with Nativity, it creates a backlash that brings out a big of hypocrisy in all of us," he was quoted as saying on one blog. "Nativity was a very sick creature and would have died in the streets anyway."
But all was not as it seemed, it appeared. The gallery said the dog had not died on the premises but slipped its leash after a day. Gallery director Juanita Bermudez said the dog was treated well by the artist.

Tired? Lazy? Buy your sick note on the internet!
An online company is planning to sell fake doctors' sick notes that would allow people to take more time off.
The notes, available from www.doctorsnotestore.com, cost about $38 each and are already available in Britain, with delivery promised in 48 hours.
Medical authorities are warning employees against using the new service. "It is clearly inciting and abetting fraud," said Wayne Herdy, a doctor and lawyer from the Australian Medical Association in Queensland state. "It's a matter that even the police should be looking at," he told the Australian Associated Press.
While the products look "extremely authentic," the company said the notes are meant to be used as novelty items and not for any illegal purpose. "We are not responsible for misuse of our products. Please use our products with caution and care," the website says. An online company is planning to sell fake doctors' sick notes that would allow people to take more time off. ... more -
Probation for boyfriend of woman stuck to toilet
A man whose girlfriend sat on a toilet for so long that the seat adhered to her body will spend six months on probation.
Kory McFarren pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor count of mistreatment of a dependent adult. He was sentenced to six months in jail but granted probation after the victim herself, Pam Babcock, who is now under protection of a guardian, asked for leniency.
Babcock's struggle became known in February, when McFarren called the police, saying he was worried about his live-in girlfriend. When authorities arrived, they found Babcock physically stuck to the toilet. McFarren then revealed that Babcock had refused to come out of the bathroom for two years. Medical personnel estimated she had been sitting on the toilet for at least a month and said the seat had adhered to sores on her body.
McFarren was also sentenced to six months in jail for an unrelated charge of lewd and lascivious behavior for exposing himself to a teenage neighbor in March. A man whose girlfriend sat on a toilet for so long that the seat adhered to her body will spend six months on probation. ... more -

Vegetables attack !!! Salmonella Poisoning
Oh my God! We don't know where its coming from !!!
It's tomatoes .... no its.... peppers.... wait.....
Don't eat vegetables !!! Hysteria !!! Panic !!! Kill the plants before they kill us !!!
More than 1,000 people now have become ill from salmonella initially linked to raw tomatoes, a sobering milestone Wednesday that makes this the worst foodborne outbreak in at least a decade. Adding to the confusion, the government is warning certain people to avoid types of hot peppers, too.
But people at highest risk of severe illness from salmonella also should not eat raw jalapeno and serrano peppers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged Wednesday. The most vulnerable are the elderly, people with weak immune systems and infants.
Perhaps there was some truth in that move "The Happening".
CDC food safety chief Dr. Robert Tauxe told The Associated Press:
“We are quite sure that neither tomatoes nor jalapenos explain the entire outbreak at this point. ... We’re presuming that both of them have caused illness.”Tauxe said. “But we really are working as hard and as fast as we can to sort out this complicated situation and protect the health of the American people.”
Added FDA food safety chief Dr. David Acheson: “It’s just been a spectacularly complicated and prolonged outbreak.”
The outbreak isn’t over, or even showing any sign of slowing, said Tauxe — with about 25 to 40 cases being a reported a day for weeks now, to a total of 1,017 known since the outbreak began on April 10.
Illnesses now have been reported in 41 states — and even four cases in Canada, although three of those people are believed to have been infected while traveling in the U.S. and the fourth is still being probed. Four children quizzed after more than 100 animals are slaughtered
FOUR children aged 12 to 13 have been quizzed by police after the sickening slaughter of more than 100 animals on a Teesside allotment. It has ben discovered the children used crobars and kicked families of animals to horrific deaths into fences.
As my personal opinion, I have to say who do these little sickos think they are? I mean what's wrong with youths now, like they'd really need to stab, beat & kick weak little animals without a voice to at least call for help makes the 'soz hard'. Where were thier parents? Would you really think it was alright if you had your young kids running away with crobars? Especially the little 12-year-old girl with all those slightly older boys. And they targeted the attack at least 2 months before it took place, surely that'd be enough to notice what was wrong.
I'm local there, and I don't know about you, but it's a good thing Cleveland Police got thier hands on these brats before I did. I'd LIKE to do the same to them alright, if not even worse. Depression strikes more Americans than cancer, AIDS, or coronary heart disease
Depression strikes about 17 million American adults each year--more than cancer, AIDS, or coronary heart disease--according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). An estimated 15 percent of chronic depression cases end in suicide. Women are twice as likely as men to be affected.
Many people simply don't know what depression is. "A lot of people still believe that depression is a character flaw or caused by bad parenting," says Mary Rappaport, a spokeswoman for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She explains that depression cannot be overcome by willpower, but requires medical attention.
Fortunately, depression is treatable, says Thomas Laughren, M.D., team leader for psychiatric drug products in FDA's division of neuropharmacological drug products.
In the past 13 years, the Food and Drug Administration has approved several new antidepressants, including Wellbutrin (bupropion), Prozac (fluoxetine), Zoloft (sertraline), Paxil (paroxetine), Effexor (venlafaxine), Serzone (nefazodone), and Remeron (mirtazapine).
According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), 80 to 90 percent of all cases can be treated effectively. However, two-thirds of the people suffering from depression don't get the help they need, according to NIMH. Many fail to identify their symptoms or attribute them to lack of sleep or a poor diet, the APA says, while others are just too fatigued or ashamed to seek help.
Left untreated, depression can result in years of needless pain for both the depressed person and his or her family. And depression costs the United States an estimated $43 billion a year, due in large part to absenteeism from work, lost productivity, and medical costs, according to the National Depressive and Manic Depressive Association.
Diagnosing the Disease
Medical professionals generally base a diagnosis of depressive disorder on the presence of certain symptoms listed in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. The DSM (presently in the fourth edition) lists the following symptoms for depression:
* depressed mood
* loss of interest or pleasure in almost all activities
* changes in appetite or weight
* disturbed sleep
* slowed or restless movements
* fatigue, loss of energy
* feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
* trouble in thinking, concentrating, or making decisions
* recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.
The diagnosis depends on the number, severity and duration of these symptoms. Depression strikes about 17 million American adults each year--more than cancer, AIDS, or coronary heart disease--according to the Nat... more -

Tiger sanctuaries selling bone for Chinese medicine against international law
Animal parks in China are turning tiger bones in an alcoholic "health tonic" and defying international laws aimed at protecting one of the world's most endangered species, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.
(Please note that there is no real evidence that this 'medicine' works for anything or that the 'sanctuary' is SECRETLY selling this wine, and that these many tigers couldn't have possibly died entirely out of natural causes by how fresh the corpses are. There are two more pictures also in the link, and the live tigers from these parks are miserable in their concrete and wired fenced enclosures.) America's cruel and unusual culture: Why do we execute the mentally handicapp...
A Supreme Court ruling recently gave states the green light to resume executions; two of the first three executed prisoners were mentally disabled.
"We just executed a man with the IQ of an 11-year-old child," Virginia defense attorney Timothy M. Richardson announced to reporters after the death of his client at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Va. At 10 p.m. on May 27, state executioners killed 31-year old Kevin Green, who confessed to the murder of a convenience store owner during a robbery in 1998. Green was sent to death row and kept there for 10 years, despite having an IQ of 65, which qualified him as mentally retarded.
