    • Japanese balloonist goes missing

A Japanese hot air balloonist has gone missing while trying to break his own world record in a flight from Japan to the US...that's got to be a scary shock to happen. The US coastguard began searching for Michio Kanda after he lost contact with his support crew late on Thursday over the North Pacific.

Mr Kanda, 58, was trying to fly from Tochigi in Japan to Portland, Oregon.

He was hoping to break records for the longest hot-air balloon journey both in distance and duration.

Mr Kanda was reported missing after he failed to check in with his support team by satellite phone.

The US coast guard sent out a boat and two planes, but the search was reportedly hampered by bad weather.

The balloonist was trying to surpass a long-distance world record of 4,767 miles (7,671 km) according to the Anchorage Daily News.

He also wanted to break a duration record he had set in 1997 with a flight of 50 hours, 38 minutes from Alberta in Canada to Montana in the US.

The flight from Tochigi to Portland would be nearly 5,600 miles (9,000km) and would take an estimated 60 hours.

    • Greatest Picture Ever on the Internet of All Time Ever

Regardless of what you may think of pictures or hunting or pictures of people hunting, this is the greatest photograph ever to make it onto the Webernet ever.

Much to I'm sure the chagrin of the late Tim Treadwell (Grizzly Man), last winter, a 9 year old girl used bullets to kill this 11'4" bear (pictured, right, with out enormous gun). This camouflaged huntress, curled up, could fit inside both her rifle case and this bear's nasal cavity, yet she alone shot this bear until he were dead, then walked up to it, and put her hand on its chin, triumphantly. I found this picture today while cleaning out my photo gallery.

I did not say I was in favor of shooting bears or having children who do. I simply state that this is the most greatest photograph ever to be on the Internet ever. It gives us a glimpse into a world we sh/would never have seen otherwise, and through the glorious world of bear hunting blogs, it has made its way into a more public consciousness than might have been imagined.

I defy anyone to beat it. ANYONE.

    • Arkansas latest team in the coach stealing business

So, after Michigan unsuccessfully tries to snag LSU's head coach during the season. Nebraska snagged one of LSU's coordinators. Ole Miss joins the fun and takes Arkansas' head coach, and now Arkansas is on the prowl.

Supposedly, Arkansas just finished talks with Tommy Bowden of Clemson, but he turned it down. Moving a little north, they've spotted another successful coach in Wake Forest's Jim Grobe.

Sounds kind of crazy to me. How can the NCAA let coaches consider other jobs before their seasons are over?

    • throwback of the day: marcus dixon and the rape case

      excerpt:

"Marcus Dixon, a high school honor student and star football player, was in prison for having sex with a younger classmate, Kristie Brown. He was 18 at the time, and she was 15, so although a jury acquitted Marcus of rape and other charges, he was found guilty of statutory rape and aggravated child molestation. Marcus was sent to prison for 10 years."

what a damn shame. moments away from graduation, and he gets caught up with this crap. 2003 was a hell of a year, with this being the icing on the cake. luckily, it didn't end up badly for him. read the article to find out how this story ends.
