    • Apple Drops Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with iPhone Devs

In a surprising turn of events, Apple has decided to eliminate the non-disclosure agreement that forced developers to keep coding details under wraps, as well as their talks with the Mac maker. Unreleased applications, however, will fall under Apple's NDA at least until they are released.

      From Apple's Developer Connection page,

      To Our Developers

We have decided to drop the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for released iPhone software.

We put the NDA in place because the iPhone OS includes many Apple inventions and innovations that we would like to protect, so that others don’t steal our work. It has happened before. While we have filed for hundreds of patents on iPhone technology, the NDA added yet another level of protection. We put it in place as one more way to help protect the iPhone from being ripped off by others.

However, the NDA has created too much of a burden on developers, authors and others interested in helping further the iPhone’s success, so we are dropping it for released software. Developers will receive a new agreement without an NDA covering released software within a week or so. Please note that unreleased software and features will remain under NDA until they are released.

Thanks to everyone who provided us constructive feedback on this matter.

Apple's move comes in light of several developer complaints asserting that Apple had not properly disclosed all the terms and conditions they were supposed to obey while collaborating with the company. Recently, several iPhone developers submitted their apps for approval on the App Store, only to be rejected by Apple on various accounts.

In most cases, though, the company claimed said apps conflicted with the functionality of its own programs / services, and thus could not allow their entrance on the venue. This created mass confusion among the developers who carefully (and specifically) sifted though Apple's NDA so they wouldn't cross the company. As it turns out, to avoid even more confusion, Apple decided to do the right thing for everyone and has finally dropped the burden that was the NDA.

    • France launches Med Union with high hopes

French President Nicolas Sarkozy launched a 43-nation Union for the Mediterranean on Sunday with a plea for Middle Eastern countries to emulate Europe's model of reconciliation and integration.

The ceremonial inaugural summit at the lofty iron-and-glass Grand Palais in Paris sealed a new detente between Syria and Europe, with the Syrian and Israeli leaders also sitting at the same table for the first time.

But there was no handshake and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appeared to go out of his way to avoid Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, hiding his face behind his arm as he walked past where the Israeli leader was standing.

"Everyone will have to make an effort, as the Europeans did, to put an end to the deadly spiral of war and violence, that, century after century, repeatedly brought barbarity to the heart of civilisation," Sarkozy said in the keynote speech.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, co-president of the summit, told the leaders they must work together to meet the challenges of food, education and health for their growing populations.

"I am sure that today is a start. I am sure that we have a long way to go and we will go a long way," he said.

On a day rich in political gestures, Sarkozy hosted cordial talks with the Israeli and Palestinian leaders, capped with an effusive triple handshake and a joint news conference.

"The goal of this summit for the Mediterranean, of this Union for the Mediterranean, is that we learn to love each other instead of continuing to hate each other and wage war," Sarkozy said, flanked by Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

    • Tim Russert has died from a heart attack

"Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.

Russert, who rose from the inside world of politics where he was former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo's press secretary and one-time chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was able to successfully cross over to political journalism and rise to become one of its leading lights.

In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

Russert joined NBC News in 1984. In April 1985, he supervised the live broadcasts of the Today program from Rome, negotiating and arranging an appearance by Pope John Paul II - a first for American television. In 1986 and 1987 Russert led NBC News weeklong broadcasts from South America, Australia and China.

In 2008, Time Magazine named him one of the world's 100 most influential people."

THIS STORY IS DEVELOPING... STAY TUNED.

    • Missing girl found hiding under bed with stepfather’s uncle

Nine-year-old Shannon Matthews has been found concealed within the base of a double divan bed at an address in the Dewsbury area of West Yorkshire. Alongside Shannon, in the other half of the cavity, was Paul Drake, a 39-year-old relative, who is being questioned on suspicion of her abduction. Police smashed their way into a flat in Batley Carr yesterday afternoon after a neighbour reported hearing light footsteps in the property above.

Police have been conducting thorough searches of the local area, alongside a high-profile media campaign. Shannon's parents are overjoyed at the find, which concludes the 24 day search.

It is understood that Mr Drake — said to be the brother of Craig Meehan’s mother, Alice Meehan — has two daughters aged 10 and 12 who were taken into care some years ago.
