    • do i vote?

i voted in the last election and i saw how big of an affect that had; not to say that it is not important to vote, but it just depends on what state you live in (i live in iowa by the way). i am a registered voter and i have decided to not vote in this next election instead i will stay at home and dress up like a clown. maybe not i might go out but i still will not vote, just does not concern me anymore since i am a starving college graduate. i voted in the last election and i saw how big of an affect that had; not to say that it is not important to vote, but it just depends... more

    • Thinking about voting for Giuliani? Think again.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani believes that the United States needs a president who is a "proven leader and a problem solver." How does Giuliani hold up to his own standards? Let's take a look.

Giuliani's failures as a leader date back to the original attack on the World Trade Center on Feb. 26, 2003, when FDNY firefighters inside the WTC discovered that their radios were defective. Giuliani's administration replaced the defective radios with more defective radios on a NO BID contract. These new radios were proven to be ineffective but were never replaced. On 9/11 an evacuation order was given over the radio to firefighters and police, but none of the firefighters in the buildings got the call, resulting in completely unnecessary loss of life. All NYPD officers in the building had working radios. They all got the call and they all escaped alive.

In addition to providing firefighters with faulty radios after the first attack in '93, Giuliani decided to place the emergency communications command center, where else, but at the World Trade Center. Placing the emergency response center at that location left it completely useless on 9/11 - it had to be evacuated before the building collapsed on itself. Police detectives were seen yelling in the streets, saying, "We told him not to put it here!"

After the attack in 2001, Giuliani wandered the streets talking to reporters. rather than isolating himself in a secure location with fire and police officials to orchestrate the rescue and recovery operation. Uniformed officials were left to deal with the chaos themselves.

Giuliani even called off the search for human remains within hours of recovering all of the gold belonging to the Bank of Nova Scotia that had been stored at the WTC. Rudy Giuliani claimed that the firefighters needed to stop for their own safety, leaving hundreds of human remains unaccounted for (these people's remains ended up in the Staten Island dump, instead of being turned over to their families). When firefighters protested Giuliani's decision, he had them ARRESTED. The search for remains continued, but only after Giuliani received bad press about the injustice.

Just watch the video and see for yourself.

    • How Trouble in Pakistan and Kenya Helped the Iowa Caucus Winners

Following the death of Benazir Bhutto and the chaos that followed the disputed election in Kenya, convention wisdom in the US was that candidates for President who stressed experience over change would stand to benefit.

The argument seems on the surface to be completely plausible. After all, isnt Hillary Clinton more equipped to handle an international crisis with her years of experience over the upstart Barack Obama? With only 1 term in the senate to his resume, the only link Obama had to Kenya was that his father was from there.

Mike Huckabee was a governor from Arkansas. Unlike many of his rivals he has zero experience in foreign affairs and made several high profile gaffes on the topic.

It seemed that international events were working against both candidates. Yet by the time the polls closed on Tuesday night, conventional wisdom proved to be dead wrong. Why?

It seems that Americans are so distraught on the current state of American affairs that they are willing to embrace anything new.

Consider this. On the Republican ticket there has been a Bush or a Dole for every national election since 1976 (thats before this author was born). Since 1988 we have had: Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush. The outcome of the last quarter century of American presidential politics hasnt exactly been a call for change. Maybe now voters are tired of keeping it in the family. Maybe now after so many years of more of the same, the change crowd will now move front and center.

Read more about this on link above to Blogflict.

    • The Media Ignores Edwards. Are we going to let them choose our President?

John Edwards was supposed to have come in third. He had been written off. He was outspent by the other front-runners six to one. But somewhere along the road he threw off the old politico hack jacket and turned into a real person, a fighter for the poor, for the uninsured, for peace. And for that, he came in a surprise second, ending up with just one less delegate than the man who was against the war from the beginning. But, as Joshua Holland of AlterNet pointed out earlier today, Edwards is still the only front-runner who will pull out all the troops and do it as quickly as possible. His speech tonight was brilliant and moving. John Edwards was supposed to have come in third. He had been written off. He was outspent by the other front-runners six to one. But s... more

    • Ron Paul Finishes 5th in Iowa - Beats Giuliani!

Republican Ron Paul vowed Thursday night to continue his presidential campaign into New Hampshire and other states.

''This is not the end. This is the beginning,'' the Texas congressman told a boisterous gathering of about 150 people at a downtown Des Moines hotel.

The crowd interrupted Paul at times, chanting ''Live free or die'' and ''Ron Paul.''

''I am more encouraged than ever before,'' he said.

Although Paul finished in fifth place, he noted that he was ahead of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
