    • desperation and hope go hand in hand

i'm not sure anyone will ever read our story , but it is what it is....I am a single mother of 4, the last 2 years i have to say have been full of strife! I managed to get out of an abusive relationship, yay me!!! I have struggled with that alone but getting to the point of my story, the biggest heartbreak and joy in my life is my youngest son "Ruby", he is 9yrs.old now and is autistic. He is non-verbal, incontinant and also a huge blessing! Sometimes I can go 2 to 3 days on about 3 hours of sleep because sometimes even the med's don't help. I have been fighting the school dept now for about, aw hell ,let's just say his entire school experience has been truly less than adequate not even meeting half his needs. So you ask why is he a huge blessing ?, He is my blessing because with all his faults hes taught me a true life lesson...ACCEPTANCE and love. I have learned patience espeically for all of you who choose to point and laugh at people who are different, in the beginning i came very close to assault charges, but i have learned that it is actually those people who are disabled, my son is autistic but his heart is above average. I also have learned that life is all about giving without thought of receiving!! He gives me such love everyday that my heart is packed to overflowing and i know there is a miracle waiting for us somewhere i just have to find it. Now getting to the heartbreak.....I also found out that without money I can't afford the miracle, being a single mother I can't afford the lawyers and such to get him to where he needs to be. So I ask you what is wrong with a society where funding a war is more important than a child's future????A society where we value cars and flatscreens and "bling-bling ", more than a child's ability to speak one day??? I'm not asking for a hand out ,only for a hand up..I work part-time but cannot work full-time because the reality is I have no -one to babysit for me all the time and I cannnot burden my other children 24 hours a day and in effect rob them of their youth..I have family but they all have their own lives, my parents are in their 70's and Ruby is way 2 much for them...I just don't know where to turn..I dream of 1 day waking up to my lil'boy saying "morning Mama", and I realize it is a dream but I'm hanging on to that dream as one day becoming a reality, i feel it, i know it will happen...ONE DAY!!! i'm not sure anyone will ever read our story , but it is what it is....I am a single mother of 4, the last 2 years i have to say ... more

    • Autistic Boy and Mom Kicked Off Plane

There were no weapons on board or concerns about terrorism, but an American Eagle flight about to take off from the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., airport was turned back to its gate on Monday to remove two passengers.

The culprits? An upset, autistic toddler and his mother.

By all accounts, two-year-old Jarret Farrell wasn't a happy traveler. But his mother, Janice Farrell, who said she tried everything to calm her son, believes there was no reason for the airline to kick them off the plane.

The airline disagrees, saying they were removed primarily because Janice Farrell kept her carry-on bag on the floor in front of her seat, but that Jarret's behavior added to the tense situation.

"The child had been crying and screaming uncontrollably, to the point where the child's well being was in question," American Airlines, the parent company of American Eagle, said in a statement. "Though, ultimately, the parent's violation of FAA regulations was the cause for removal, both situations contributed to an uncomfortable and potentially unsafe atmosphere for our passengers and crew."

    • Mentally handicapped child voted out of class by fellow classmates, kindergartener...

Melissa Barton says Morningside Elementary teacher Wendy Portillo had her son's classmates say what they didn't like about 5-year-old Alex. She says the teacher then had the students vote, and voted Alex, who is being evaluated for Asperger's syndrome -- an autism spectrum disorder -- out of the class by a 14-2 margin... • How The Government Ignores Autism Funding

Even with clear evidence of vaccinations causing Autism in America, most state governemnts are not allowing the proper legislation pass to relieve families that have Autism. From Missouri to New Jersey, many families are clawing in a grassroots effort to have their voices heard and to see a slight ease to real financial pains. With 1 in 150 children diagnosed in the Autism spectrum, and numbers rising, will legislators begin helping families in need? Even with clear evidence of vaccinations causing Autism in America, most state governemnts are not allowing the proper legislation pas... more

    • Vaccine-autism link divides parents, scientists

This topic has been a growing concern over the last few years. There have been many parents who feel that after the several vaccines required, their child suddenly came down with autism. In my personal life I have heard family friends complain of the same thing. The scientists in this article claim that it is not possible for vaccines to cause autism. I don’t always believe stories like this because someone might be getting “paid” in the background to put out “desirable” results. On the other hand, why is it that some children seem fine after vaccines, while others suddenly become autistic?
If this woman does win this case, it will snow ball into something very serious. Every family out there who has suffered from similar situations will look for some type of compensation. I am wondering how this will impact us, the tax payers.
So how do you feel about the issue of vaccines being accused for some autism cases?

    • Presenting Our Special Needs Son and Story to the World

In an attempt to sway legislation that would provide Missouri families with education vouchers, CJ Contributor Joe Dimino and wife Carrie agreed to open the doors of their home to an independent video production company and capture thier story. This video is going to be used in legislative sessions of the Missouri House to highlight examples of why families with special needs and autistic children need a financial lift to help absolve the high costs of a soaring problem in modern day America. Apparently researchers have found that kids in the 'autism spectrum' can have healthy, reversing effects when they have a high fever. As the Autism mystery lingers, this comes across as another odd reminder that the notion of pain could be pleasure .. especially for parents with children in the Autism Spectrum.
