New McCain Ad - Disrespectful
Disrespectful is right - Shame on McCain. Apparently its disrespectful to point out the facts to the American public. And Sarah Palin isn't 'good looking' according to them, either. WE SELL GUNS! - with no ID required in 32 US states
Nice campaign just launched in Denver to raise awareness of how easy (no ID, and no background check), it is to get hold of a gun across nearly TWO THIRDS of the states in the USA.
Though perhaps the subtlety may actually only be preaching to the converted - sadly no url on the billboards for more info.
Great guerilla effort lined up for Denver around the convention here...(with the stophandgun violence.org tag)

It's Time for Obama to Get Tough
How is it that despite adulatory media coverage, long lines of volunteers at his campaign offices, and Americans deeply unhappy about the direction of the country, Barack Obama is rapidly losing support -- and control of the agenda -- to John McCain?
It's because Obama has reverted to the whiny, wimpy style that nearly allowed Hillary Clinton to wipe him out in September, 2007 -- until he found his backbone and actually started to stand up for himself.
When McCain launches volley after volley of attack on Obama's policies (with photos of Paris and Brittany thrown in to get the media's attention), what's Obama's response? To ride in on his My Little Pony and cry because McCain is -- how low! -- criticizing his policies and questioning his capacity to lead in a mildly creative way.
This self-righteous simpering might make Obama supporters feel like he's "changing the tone" of politics, but it's not doing anything to stop his slide, shape the debate, or answer the legitimate question the McCain campaign keeps asking: Is Obama actually ready to lead?
So far, Obama's response is to give McCain's advisers exactly what they want: McCain attacks, Obama complains about the attacks and then capitulates on everything from illegal wiretapping to offshore oil drilling. Obama is once again caught up in the great Democratic myth that voters make up their minds by carefully calibrating which candidate's issue positions are closest to his own.
Newsflash, Obama: To most voters, campaigns are not an egghead mental Olympics between two walking policy platforms. They're primal battles that test how candidates respond under fire. And for the last several weeks, Obama has been failing that test: crying about McCain's attacks and then surrendering. To most voters, this sends a simple message: if Obama can't stand up to a babbling incompetent like John McCain, how is he ever going to stand up to the oil executives, the health care lobby, or, for that matter, Osama bin Laden?
Americans are angry. They want and need a president who can channel their frustration and fight hard for himself and the American people. How is it that despite adulatory media coverage, long lines of volunteers at his campaign offices, and Americans deeply unhappy about ... more -
McCain Campaign Restricts Press Access
By Michael D. ShearPITTSBURGH -- Welcome to the new John McCain press strategy.Avoid them.McCain today held a 10-minute press conference, complete with podium, microphones for the questioners, network-quality audio and a camera for a local television station, which allowed CNN to carry it live. And where was the national press corps?Sitting on the runway 27 miles away, having been ferried to McCain's charter plane, totally unaware that a press availability was about to take place until one of the handful of "pool reporters" sent an e-mail alert. The reporters frantically fired up their cellular modems and logged on to CNN.com to catch the end of the press conference, unable to ask any questions. The handful of reporters there asked about the FISA terrorism bill, Iran and about McCain's pledge to balance the budget.McCain's schedule for Wednesday included a note about a "gaggle" with the pool reporters, but nothing indicated a live press conference. The tactic was a first for the McCain campaign, which basically shrugged when asked about it."He took a couple of questions at the end of the tour from the pool. This will happen occasionally," responded Jill Hazelbaker, the communications director for the campaign. The Republican presidential nominee has built a reputation for his access to the press, famously inviting the national press corps to gab sessions on the back of his "Straight Talk" bus during the 2000 and 2008 primary campaigns.National reporters still get some access; in fact, the campaign promises some time with the candidate later today as the campaign bus rambles from West Virginia to Portsmouth, Ohio.McCain gathered several reporters at the front of the plane while traveling in South America last week. But that access has been whittled away as McCain became the nominee. The Straight Talk is reserved now as a carrot for local reporters, leaving the national press corps on a charter bus trailing behind. The new approach may reflect the growing influence of the newly-powerful Steve Schmidt, a top adviser and protege of Bush political guru Karl Rove, who was famous for his desire to control the press's access to his candidate.Schmidt now has operational control of the day-to-day activities of the campaign and is no doubt responding to criticism about a lack of message discipline by the McCain campaign. "Housing not war"
Almost 200 organizations and thousands more individuals across Canada are demanding the Federal government end its war in Afghanistan and redirect funds from record-high military spending to peace, including affordable housing. This broad new alliance ranges from Canada's largest civil society organizations to grassroots community groups, and is growing daily. (Sign now: www.HousingNotWar.ca)
300,000 people experience homelessness annually in Canada, the only industrialized country with no national housing program. The UN recently reaffirmed the "devastating impact of this national crisis... including a large number of deaths" from homelessness during Canada's worst housing shortage since the Great Depression. Meanwhile, skyrocketing military spending is already at the highest level since WWII, and the government fights a war devastating some of the poorest people in the world in Afghanistan -- a war most people in Canada oppose, but Canadian Generals predict could last decades.
CURRENT FACTS:
-- Military: $18.2 billion/year // highest since WWII // 13th highest in the World // 8.5% of Federal budget // $100 million per month to fight the war in Afghanistan
-- Housing: $2 billion/year // just 1% of Federal budget // The ONLY industrialized country with NO national program // Worst housing shortage since Great Depression
-- Homelessness: 300,000 people annually // Very high death rate (people die every week) // Millions more in 'core housing need', enduring poor or insecure housing. Almost 200 organizations and thousands more individuals across Canada are demanding the Federal government end its war in Afghanistan ... more -

Nader v. Obama
On Meet the Press on May 4, Senator Obama told Tim Russert that he was willing to debate with "any of my opponents about what this country means, what makes it great."
Well, Ralph is taking Barack up on his offer. Nader wants to discuss how the DNC and RNC have taken over the election process. His stance is based on open, public debates that strengthens democracy.
Currently, the Nader/Gonzalez campaign is busy trying to overcome the Democratic Party's ballot obstructionism in Senator Obama's home state of Illinois. Last time out (that would be 2004), the Democrats blocked Nader from the ballot in Illinois. On Meet the Press on May 4, Senator Obama told Tim Russert that he was willing to debate with "any of my opponents about what thi... more -
