    • Hunt for Kangaroo 'Basher' $25,000.00 REWARD!

Radio stations, business people and elderly women are among those who have chipped in $25,000 as a reward to catch a man who bashed a kangaroo.

The RSPCA last week launched a national hunt for the young man shown beating a kangaroo unconscious in an online video.

This week, information on the kangaroo kicker, and offers of financial support have flooded in.
"I received a donation from a little old lady," RSPCA spokesman Richard Barry said.

"It was addressed, 'To Richard, here's $50, I hope you catch the bastards'."

Mr Barry said the RSPCA had already received $25,000 for its reward fund, including a $10,000 contribution from a Perth businessman, who said the RSPCA could keep the money as a donation if the reward did not need to be paid.

Mr Barry confirmed other donors would get a refund if the reward was not required.

"We received another $5000 from Howard Sattler's 6PR Drive program, which is owned by Fairfax Media, and at least another $5000 from individuals," he said.

Mr Barry said RSPCA had received "hundreds of leads", but that not all were high quality.

"The problem is there's a lot of people reporting others who have been looking at the vision on a mobile phone, so it's a matter of sorting the wheat from the chaff," he said.

The sickening video, initially sent to the RSPCA in Western Australia, shows the man kickboxing the animal as his friend laughs while filming.

In one scene, the man pulls the kangaroo toward him and knees the creature in the chest.

Punches are swung into the kangaroo's face with great force as the animal struggles to remain standing.

The final punch knocks the kangaroo to the ground, where it appears to lie unconscious.

It is unclear whether the attack resulted in the animal's death.

Mr Barry said the man in the video was between 17 and 20 years old.

The man could be charged under the Animal Welfare Act with cruelty to animals.

He could face a five-year jail term and a $50,000 fine if found guilty in Western Australia.

On Friday night, West Australian Police searched a country property after a tip-off that the resident was the man in the video. That man was subsequently cleared.

Anyone with information about the attack should call the RSPCA Animal Cruelty line on 1300 278 3589 or (08) 9209 9300.

Chicks that have been orphaned are being played the dawn chorus in the hope that they'll learn the vocal skills needed as adults. The RSCPA are playing birdsong CDs twice a day to their orphans.

I hope they're not teaching them to dance to The Birdy Song by The Tweets.

    • Dog fighting rises dramatically in UK

The UK is experiencing a huge rise in the number of dog fights, the RSPCA said today, as it revealed the number of complaints it received about the illegal "sport" had increased by more than 10-fold in three years.

The charity received 358 calls specifically about dog fighting last year, 132 of them involving youths or hoodies training their dogs to fight in the street or park.

The latest figures are up from 137 dog fighting complaints in 2006. In 2004 the figure was just 24.

    • 'Fat dog' loses half his weight

A dog that was at the centre of a cruelty case after it reached 11 stone (70kg) has shed half its body weight.
Rusty, a chocolate-coloured Labrador, is a shadow of his former self after losing nearly six stone (35kg) in less than two years, the RSPCA said.

The animal welfare charity intervened when Rusty was overfed by his owners.

Derek Benton, 62, and his brother David, 53, were found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the dog after a trial in Ely, Cambs, in January 2007.

Magistrates gave each a conditional discharge and said Rusty could return to their care if he was properly fed and cared for.

The RSPCA said Rusty weighed 11 stone 7lb (73kg) when he was seized by inspectors in March 2006 and by January 2007, following a special diet by vets, he had lost nearly four stone (25kg).

Derek and David Benton had denied mistreating the dog and said they were "flabbergasted" when prosecuted. (Poor Rusty weighs more then me! Not good in a dog!)

    • Wildside makes Harley the parrot, Speechless

      Wild side makes parrot speechless

Harley is an African grey parrot like this one
A parrot who never stopped chattering lost his voice after four days' freedom in the wilds of Cambridgeshire.
Harley, an African Grey, used to call his owners "Mum" and "Dad", could recite his telephone number and was never lost for words.

But after four days in the wild he appears to have lost his tongue and has returned traumatised, skinny and mute.

Owner Cedric Tunnel, 66, of Littleport, said: "Wild birds bully him and won't let him get to any food."

      Found on BMW

Harley, eight, made a bid for freedom by flying through an open door.

"Harley was perched on my back but I'd forgotten he was there," said Mr Tunnel. "When I opened a door to a guest he flew off."

Mr Tunnel scoured the local area looking for Harley with his wife Margaret, 65. The pair put up lost posters showing their beloved bird in a bid to track him down.

Their hard work was rewarded when Harley was finally found perched on a BMW.

The car's owner recognised Harley from the posters and alerted the couple.

    • J Oliver ruins chief support for the chickens when useing Battery Eggs. HOW COULD ...

Known by most, the main support for Britian's livestock chicken's to improve the conditions, Jamie Oliver has been the chef on Channel four's program to help ALL chickens avaidable as to be free-ranged by a HOPEFULL 2010. BUT, what'd he use?! Eggs from poor imprissoned hens to live like that, next for time to catch them slaughtered in MORE poor conditions after being basically force-fed. He was cuaght out by a group of farmers taking notice of his battery eggs while having dinner at Fifteen Cornwell at Watertergate Bay. A resturant Spokesman claimed It'd been a very embaressing mistake and Olliver was outraged. Dave-meaner, the Fifteen Cornwell chief -executive said the wrong eggs from the wrong place were ordered when they ran out. Of eggs. I leave it at that, Being, my self, outraged by te fact they were both very angry men, good, BUT NOT AT LEAST FIRING THOSE MEAN WORKERS! "You herd It! If you disagree on my following or whatever your opinions are, don't be shy to type up the rival competion! I'll express my own view, that I don't see any reason to change: I reckon is NOT be illegal to own Rottwhielers, Lutens, pitbulls, hounds, dobermans, Bull Terriers, bostons, Bull dogs of all kinds and mixes of these breeds! I KNOW It's a thing with certain dogs BREED to fight and a child being malled when her grandmother was high and let a loose fighter pit into the home, but think about this matter, they'll only fight not as strong smaller dogs and soon learn most of thiere NATURAL attitudes are only more aggressive with LESS training, if for some small, less. The SMALL dogs, are only more agressive, with the tendancy to be over paronoid and, by instinct, always on the look out for even anyone as small as a grin (they think It's a threat), they WANT to ban Dobemans also, but not the Doberman Pinchser, basically only a smaller more naturally vicious attitude breed. Bigger dogs, are less insecure, the tought of them being hurt, BY NORMAL personalities, rarely even have the thought of being attacked apply. It's YOUR responseability to let a big, clumsy dog even appear with children, plus, we already know our Animal Welfare Organizations already test ALL sorts of animals, before aloud to be adopted." The RSPCA has warned shoppers they may be purchasing clothing made with real animal fur.

The animal rights charity says “low prices and poor labelling” are encouraging buyers to purchase items believing they are fake.

Purchases made from Edinburgh Wollen Mill and TK Maxx “were trimmed with real fur”, said the RSPCA.

“The Edinburgh Wollen Mill said rabbit fur used on its gloves was a by-product of the food industry.”
