This was Kent Couch's third balloon-powered lawn chair flight. His lawn chair, powered by a rainbow of more than 150 helium-filled party balloons, flew more than 200 miles from central Oregon to Idaho.

Couch created quite a sensation in the tiny farming community of Cambridge, Idaho, as he touched down safely in a pasture where he was soon greeted by dozens of the town’s very surprised residents!!

This article includes a number of great photographs, as well as five remarkable videos (two of his 2007 flight and three of his successful 2008 flight), music audio (The Fifth Dimension's "Up, Up, and Away") and a terrific gallery of photographs showing Couch and his balloon-powered lawn chair in flight.

    • Weegee Under the Cover of Darkness: The Photography of Night Noir

Weegee was a renowned New York City freelance crime and street photographer who worked like a whirlwind of perpetual motion, running from the mid-1930s into the postwar years. Weegee prowled the streets of New York's Lower East Side non-stop during the graveyard shift.

He took thousands of photographs that defined Manhattan as a film noir nightscape populated with hoodlums and gangsters, Bowery bums and slumming socialites, tenement dwellers and victims of murders, catastrophic fires, domestic brawls and car crashes.

His body of photographic work bestowed an enduring epithet upon New York City: The Naked City.

This article includes starkly powerful vintage photographs, two videos, and an extensive photo-gallery of Weegee's photography.

    • Sam Taylor-Wood: A Portrayal of Moments with Crying Men

Sam Taylor-Wood is an English experimental photographer and filmmaker. "Crying Men" is her treatise about sadness. It has very recently been "discovered" in the United States and is attracting considerable attention.

Her series of photographs in "Crying Men" attempts to capture an unusual liminal space, the moment between the real and the unreal, the imitation and the authentic. By her deliberate use of celebrity actors as models, the viewer is led to wonder whether and to what degree their tears of sadness (and therefore their emotions) are genuine.

This article presents great photographs, a photo-gallery of all the "Crying Men" portraits and three videos. The videos include a video-slideshow of the "Crying Men" photographs and Taylor-Wood's short avant-garde film, "Pieta", which stars Robert Downey, Jr.

    • The Old Photomaton: A Picture Box for the Masses

In 1926, an inventor named Anatol Josepho opened a photo booth in New York City's Times Square, the first Photomaton in the world. Josepho kept his Photomaton open 24 hours a day, and 280,000 customers had entered his booths to take pictures during his first six months of operation.

It was such an instant hit that the photo booth spread from that very spot in Times Square to arcades, amusement parks, state fairs, bus depots and five-and-dimes all around the country. Across eight decades the photo booths have recorded countless youthful frolics, untold numbers of funny antics, romantic kisses and unspeakable inebriated indiscretions.

This article includes wonderful vintage photographs, three videos (one of them is absolutely hilarious) and a great photo-gallery.

    • Speechless: Dylan All Alone in Warhol’s Photobooth

Andy Warhol introduced the idea of the "movie self portrait" in the 1960s. Visitors to The Factory who were seen as potential "stars" were asked to sit in front of a camera that was mounted on a tripod. They were told not to blink while the camera ran, which was loaded with one minute of film.

Even though no one else was present in the room, the subject did not really have control. When we watch these one-minute "movie self portraits" waves of feelings, emotions and insecurities pass before our eyes. Something vulnerable is revealed. Here's the "movie self portrait" that was made by a clearly uncomfortable Bob Dylan.

Wonderful photographs, the video of Dylan's revealing "movie self portrait" and a great photo-gallery are included.
