    • Pirate Bay renamed Beijing Bay after Olympics tracking

The Pirate Bay has a new logo, at least temporarily.

The world's most notorious torrent-tracking site has temporarily renamed itself The Beijing Bay after the International Olympic Committee sought the assistance of the Swedish government to stop it from tracking clips from the ongoing Olympics in Beijing.

The IOC claimed Monday there were more than 1 million downloads of footage from the Olympics -- mostly of the opening ceremony. TorrentFreak was the first English-speaking site to report the news.

The Swedish government has already charged the Pirate Bay operators, based in Sweden, with copyright infringement. No trial date has been set.

The Pirate Bay, which tracks millions of copyrighted works available to users for free, has no intention of shutting down or of shuttering its Olympic trackers.

The plan commits the firms to working towards a "significant reduction" in the illegal sharing of music.

The first stage of the campaign will involve hundreds of thousands of letters being sent to net users suspected of illegally sharing music.

The BBC has been told that the memorandum commits the net firms to develop legal music services.

Official confirmation of the deal is expected later.

    • Virgin Media: "absolutely no possibility" of legal action or disconnecti...

Virgin have said that it was a mistake that all of the warning letters came decorated with a "Important: If you don’t read this, your broadband could be disconnected” message and that they never had any such intentions.

    • MPAA wants to filter the internet at your college

In a letter to Congressional leaders, the MPAA continues to push for special copyright provisions in a new bill reauthorizing the federal student aid program for college students. Filtering, it seems, can save big money on bandwidth, but colleges remain unimpressed.

Zombie Jack Valenti however remains pleased.

The complainant is Tanya Andersen, a 41-year-old disabled single mother. Lory Lybeck, her attorney said the lawsuit will also force the industry to reveal how extensive its spying has become.

    • Illegal downloaders could be banned from the internet

The UK government is considering a plan to ban people, who download music illegally, from the internet.

      WHAT!

This means that anyone caught with pirated copies of of songs and films would be denied access to the internet by their providers.

First there would be an email warning, then accounts suspended, then contract with the service provider canceled.

How would people function with out the internet? That would be almost inhumane.
