How Hilary's Tears Shed Her Robotic Image
It was the iconic moment of the New Hampshire race: Hillary Clinton, the icy control queen of the Democratic party welling up with emotion - and it may have won her an improbable victory over Barack Obama.
The emotional moment in a cafe on the eve of last night's poll was widely credited today for bringing women voters back to the Clinton fold after their defection in the Iowa caucuses last week. Obama Faithful Shocked! Hillary Supporters Think 39 Percent Equals A "Major V...
What is interesting in this article isn't actually the article itself, but the comments from the Huffington Posts readers. A lot of spin going on from the Hillary supporters who view Hillary's victory in Hew Hampshire as owning more to "massive turnout" and a reaction against the "piling on Edwards and Obama" did to her during the debates. They also site anger over the press and even remarked that the heckler with the "Iron My Shirts!" sign mobilized the female vote. Lost in the comments in any mention of the fact that Hillary won mostly because the vote was split between Edwards and Obama. No Hillary supporter ever claimed Edwards was their second choice and no Edwards supporter ever said they were torn between him and Hillary. Without Edwards in the race all those votes would go to Obama. She barely got more votes than Obama and without Edwards she would have lost by a huge margin. Hillary Didn't Find Her Voice, She Was Channelling Expediency
It might have been a good sound bite, but Senator Clinton's opening remark in her victory speech - that the campaign in New Hampshire helped her "find her voice" - was the unintentional opening of a window into the slippery and opportunistic truth of her campaign. Comeback Kids
Hillary Clinton and John McCain have won the New Hampshire Primary Election.
"Over the last week, I listened to you, and in the process I found my own voice," the New York senator told supporters.
"Now together, let's give America the kind of comeback that New Hampshire has just given me."
Clinton held a 2 to 3 point lead over Obama throughout most of the night, despite recent polls showing Obama 9 points ahead of the New York senator.
McCain's triumph scrambled the Republican race as well.
"We showed this country what a real comeback looks like, we're going to move on to Michigan and South Carolina and win the nomination."
McCain rode a wave of support from independent voters to defeat former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, a showing that reprised the senator's victory in the traditional first-in-the-nation primary in 2000.
