U.S./Mexico Border Wall Risks Endangered Species Extinctions
The border wall between U.S. and Mexico will do very little to stem the tide of undocumented immigrants coming from Mexico and points south to the U.S., though it will definitely impact many species of animals and plants who inhabit the desert region of the borderlands. Specifically large mammals like the ocelot, jaguarundi and Sonoran pronghorn antelope will find themselves cut off from other populations and be subject to genetic isolation and inbreeding. For species already suffering from low population numbers this is a recipe for extinction. The only reason for the border wall is to cover the politicians who want to appear to be "doing something" to stop undocumented immigration, though in reality they are doing very little besides causing species extinctions... Stones were hurled at guards on Friday after they raised batons and shields and formed a human wall close to one of three crossings.
The move triggered fears among Palestinians, who have been flocking into Egypt for three days for essential supplies following Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, that their access to Egypt was about to be closed.

Hamas 'spent months cutting through Gaza wall'
Sections of the border wall between Gaza and Egypt came down yesterday allowing thousands of Palestinians to go back and forth for food and supplies. It has emerged that the blasts alone were not responsible for the wall coming down, but that Hamas had 'spent months cutting through Gaza wall in a secret operation.'
"A Hamas border guard admitted that the Islamist group was responsible and had been involved for months in slicing through the heavy metal wall using oxy-acetylene cutting torches. That meant that when the explosive charges were set off in 17 different locations between midnight and 1am the 40ft wall came tumbling down, leaving it lying like a broken concertina down the middle of no-man's land as an estimated 350,000 Gazans flooded into Egypt."
