Five-legged cat to lose two paws
A five-legged cat is to undergo surgery to remove a superfluous paw growing from the left side of her body.
The stray was found by a US family in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania, and taken to a local animal shelter, where she was named Baby Girl.
The operation will not make her a four-footed feline, as vets also plan to amputate a deformed left hind leg.
But staff at the shelter say Baby Girl is already adept at getting around using only 60% of current paw power.
Chrystin Rice, who works at the Washington Area Humane Society, says Baby Girl is in good health as she waits for her operation, scheduled to take place within the next fortnight.
"She's a little bit wild, but she is very easy to handle," she said.
"The veterinarians who have seen her are just amazed that she has five legs. It's probably from in-breeding."
The operation will improve the cat's quality of life, the society says.
So far no one has applied to adopt Baby Girl, although there have been a number of calls to inquire about her progress.
But Chrystin Rice says people shouldn't be put off by the extra leg - or the forthcoming lack of one which should be there.
"It's actually a really, really nice cat," she said.

Honour sought for 'Soldier Bear'
A campaign has been launched to build a permanent memorial to a bear which spent much of its life in Scotland - after fighting in World War II.
The bear - named Voytek - was adopted in the Middle East by Polish troops in 1943, becoming much more than a mascot.
The large animal even helped their armed forces to carry ammunition at the Battle of Monte Cassino.
Voytek - known as the Soldier Bear - later lived near Hutton in the Borders and ended his days at Edinburgh Zoo.
He was found wandering in the hills of Iran by Polish soldiers in 1943.
He liked a cigarette, he liked a bottle of beer - he drank a bottle of beer like any man
Augustyn Karolewski
They adopted him and as he grew he was trained to carry heavy mortar rounds.
When Polish forces were deployed to Europe the only way to take the bear with them was to "enlist" him.
So he was given a name, rank and number and took part in the Italian campaign.
He saw action at Monte Cassino before being billeted - along with about 3,000 other Polish troops - at the army camp in the Scottish Borders.
The soldiers who were stationed with him say that he was easy to get along with.
"He was just like a dog - nobody was scared of him," said Polish veteran Augustyn Karolewski, who still lives near the site of the camp.
The bear travelled with troops (Picture: Imperial War Museum)
"He liked a cigarette, he liked a bottle of beer - he drank a bottle of beer like any man."
When the troops were demobilised, Voytek spent his last days at Edinburgh Zoo.
Mr Karolewski went back to see him on a couple of occasions and found he still responded to the Polish language.
"I went to Edinburgh Zoo once or twice when Voytek was there," he said.
"And as soon as I mentioned his name he would sit on his backside and shake his head wanting a cigarette.
"It wasn't easy to throw a cigarette to him - all the attempts I made until he eventually got one."
Voytek was a major attraction at the zoo until his death in 1963.
Eyemouth High School teacher Garry Paulin is now writing a new book, telling the bear's remarkable story.
'Totally amazing'
Local campaigner Aileen Orr would like to see a memorial created at Holyrood to the bear she says was part of both the community and the area's history.
She first heard about Voytek as a child from her grandfather, who served with the King's Own Scottish Borderers.
"I thought he had made it up to be quite honest but it was only when I got married and came here that I knew in fact he was here, Voytek was here," she said.
"When I heard from the community that so few people knew about him I began to actually research the facts.
"It is just amazing, the story is totally amazing."

'Fat dog' loses half his weight
A dog that was at the centre of a cruelty case after it reached 11 stone (70kg) has shed half its body weight.
Rusty, a chocolate-coloured Labrador, is a shadow of his former self after losing nearly six stone (35kg) in less than two years, the RSPCA said.
The animal welfare charity intervened when Rusty was overfed by his owners.
Derek Benton, 62, and his brother David, 53, were found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the dog after a trial in Ely, Cambs, in January 2007.
Magistrates gave each a conditional discharge and said Rusty could return to their care if he was properly fed and cared for.
The RSPCA said Rusty weighed 11 stone 7lb (73kg) when he was seized by inspectors in March 2006 and by January 2007, following a special diet by vets, he had lost nearly four stone (25kg).
Derek and David Benton had denied mistreating the dog and said they were "flabbergasted" when prosecuted. (Poor Rusty weighs more then me! Not good in a dog!)

Wildside makes Harley the parrot, Speechless
Wild side makes parrot speechless
Harley is an African grey parrot like this one
A parrot who never stopped chattering lost his voice after four days' freedom in the wilds of Cambridgeshire.
Harley, an African Grey, used to call his owners "Mum" and "Dad", could recite his telephone number and was never lost for words.
But after four days in the wild he appears to have lost his tongue and has returned traumatised, skinny and mute.
Owner Cedric Tunnel, 66, of Littleport, said: "Wild birds bully him and won't let him get to any food."
Found on BMW
Harley, eight, made a bid for freedom by flying through an open door.
"Harley was perched on my back but I'd forgotten he was there," said Mr Tunnel. "When I opened a door to a guest he flew off."
Mr Tunnel scoured the local area looking for Harley with his wife Margaret, 65. The pair put up lost posters showing their beloved bird in a bid to track him down.
Their hard work was rewarded when Harley was finally found perched on a BMW.
The car's owner recognised Harley from the posters and alerted the couple.

Sacrafices In America by Voodoo: Religious or Excuses?
Voodoo, originated from African tribes and the Accient Greeks. 'Used' too either cast revenge in trade for your evil-doing soal with the victim (as known the classic pins), or to burn goats for your god. From that even long ago, went on too 'serve' rituals for currently most used stabbing goats, chicken or pigeon. NOW, modernly used most in North America, not ALL American residents appriciate what the eccentric (but overally common) 'belivers' are doing in the neighborhoods are up too. Modernly, these people can found in ANY state, MAINLY in Miami, FLORIDA, Detriot, MICHIGAN and even the streets outside appartments of New York City. Although these locations mark as legal, to prevent any form of protest to all 'believers', It is not publically welcomed, even by the local Animal Control agencies. Another problem, in Florida, as we all know is famous for the vast amount of Alligaters, sacrifices are dumped as, leaving the torn up bodies, raw and old in their vairiations, lying as fast effortless food for the reptiles near cities. Miami is well known for the major problem, the reason for the biggest gaters in the country, also with the same breed, bigger and bigger problems then Mexico's. This is turning out as no-longer religious any more. As noticed, by 'coinceidence' the MURDERS are either ONLY killing and performing no other signs of religion, or plainly found to have a mentle illness. (No, really.) In ONE event, such words happened as a discovered cock-fight, when raided, the excuse followed: "It's our type of sacrifice." When, clearly they has a bet. SHOULD this be out-lawed? J Oliver ruins chief support for the chickens when useing Battery Eggs. HOW COULD ...
Known by most, the main support for Britian's livestock chicken's to improve the conditions, Jamie Oliver has been the chef on Channel four's program to help ALL chickens avaidable as to be free-ranged by a HOPEFULL 2010. BUT, what'd he use?! Eggs from poor imprissoned hens to live like that, next for time to catch them slaughtered in MORE poor conditions after being basically force-fed. He was cuaght out by a group of farmers taking notice of his battery eggs while having dinner at Fifteen Cornwell at Watertergate Bay. A resturant Spokesman claimed It'd been a very embaressing mistake and Olliver was outraged. Dave-meaner, the Fifteen Cornwell chief -executive said the wrong eggs from the wrong place were ordered when they ran out. Of eggs. I leave it at that, Being, my self, outraged by te fact they were both very angry men, good, BUT NOT AT LEAST FIRING THOSE MEAN WORKERS! Will Britain and other counrtries of Western euorpe really turn a "predudice" Turn...
"You herd It! If you disagree on my following or whatever your opinions are, don't be shy to type up the rival competion! I'll express my own view, that I don't see any reason to change: I reckon is NOT be illegal to own Rottwhielers, Lutens, pitbulls, hounds, dobermans, Bull Terriers, bostons, Bull dogs of all kinds and mixes of these breeds! I KNOW It's a thing with certain dogs BREED to fight and a child being malled when her grandmother was high and let a loose fighter pit into the home, but think about this matter, they'll only fight not as strong smaller dogs and soon learn most of thiere NATURAL attitudes are only more aggressive with LESS training, if for some small, less. The SMALL dogs, are only more agressive, with the tendancy to be over paronoid and, by instinct, always on the look out for even anyone as small as a grin (they think It's a threat), they WANT to ban Dobemans also, but not the Doberman Pinchser, basically only a smaller more naturally vicious attitude breed. Bigger dogs, are less insecure, the tought of them being hurt, BY NORMAL personalities, rarely even have the thought of being attacked apply. It's YOUR responseability to let a big, clumsy dog even appear with children, plus, we already know our Animal Welfare Organizations already test ALL sorts of animals, before aloud to be adopted."
