Muslim track star disqualified for her outfit
So much for religious freedom. This Washington DC high school track star has been disqualified from a meet for wearing her custom-made one-piece unitard that covers her head, arms, torso and legs under her team uniform, so as to conform to her Muslim faith. Officials at the meet say that this outfit violates competition rules: "Uniforms are required to be 'a single-solid color and unadorned, except for a single school name or insignia no more than 2 1/4 inches.'"
Something seems amiss. She was able to wear her outfit all year last year without a problem. But suddenly it's gotten her disqualified. Is this fair? So much for religious freedom. This Washington DC high school track star has been disqualified from a meet for wearing her custom-made... more
