Violinistar at 55 Washington st. gallery 204. Live performance from 7pm-9pm/sat-su...
Title: Violinistar (violin + stars/ fireworks)
Artist: Soyoung Park ( http://www.shine-sy.com/artworks )
Stars in the sky react to your music. Your music controls fireworks.
Violinistar is an interactive light installation that reacts to sound inputs.
For more beautiful and fantastic effects, there is a violinist who gives beautiful sound input to the project. Fiber optics around the player creates imaginary atmosphere when they light up. They represent stars and fireworks in the sky.
Simple live graphic effects on a computer become unexpected light show through the fiber optic installation.
Why violin? Violin is the artist's favorite musical instrument.
At DUMBO Art Under the Bridge Festival, Soyoung Park will collavorate with electric violinist Clara Kebbabian ( http://www.myspace.com/clarakebabian ). Title: Violinistar (violin + stars/ fireworks) Artist: Soyoung Park ( http://www.shine-sy.com/artworks ) ... more -
Politaoke: Politics as Karaoke = Politaoke!
"You for Office"
Now you too can deliver the great rhetoric filled speeches of today's most important politicians. Why settle with hearing politicians when Politaoke allows you to become them. Politaoke, an audience participatory political karaoke bar, changes the face of politics and karaoke by allowing audience members to take on the role of political leaders. Who needs American Idol when you could be a presidential candidate?
Politaoke made its US debut at the Hallwalls Center for Contemporary Art in Buffalo New York as part of the Infringement Festival and toured across the US in cities across the country from July 30th until now. Dumbo Art Under the Bridge Festival will be the final stop on this Summer "Whistle Stop" Tour. First performed in January 2008 in Germany, Politaoke has been expanded to include speeches, interviews and other appearances by American politicians currently in and running for office.
Politaoke provides the audience a platform to perform, mock and finally hear and see clearly what their politicians say. Completely nonpartisan, Politaoke allows the audience to decide how to interpret each politician's words, whether serious or in a sarcastic manner. The politician's speeches and interviews are provided, word for word, only edited into sections (songs) of 1 - 8 minutes. A series of debates, interviews and television appearances are also provided as duets.
Created by Diana Arce, Politaoke is a natural progression in her (in person) work as an artist, filmmaker and activist, who is interested in using artistic methods as a platform to engage in political and cultural critique and commentary in the public realm. Much of her work stems not only from her personal experience, but also from contemporary politics, economics and news. She is also notorious for her prize-winning karaoke performance at Pan Am Lounge in Berlin.
Politaoke will run daily September 26-28th from 7-9PM every half hour on the free Water Taxi at the Fulton Ferry Landing.

Video: Port O'Brien "In Vino Veritas"
"In Vino Veritas" is a bluesy jam by Oakland's Port O'Brien. The title comes from a latin expression meaning getting drunk and saying things you shouldn't, the sound has the qualities of a song you want to hear at a dive bar. A heavy blues strum, banjo picking, and wailing vocals make this crowd move at their live show in Austin. Bottoms up. "In Vino Veritas" is a bluesy jam by Oakland's Port O'Brien. The Art Guys Perform Live at the University of Houston Tonight
HOUSTON’S ART GUYS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS OF EXHIBITS, PERFORMANCES
WITH ‘EVENING OF ITTY BITTY WITTY DITTIES’ AT UH<b>
It was 25 years ago that The Art Guys, Michael Galbreth and Jack Massing, met while attending classes at the
University of Houston. At the time, both men had no idea that their zest for humor and art would lead to a lasting
partnership and an international reputation as creative, comedic innovators.
To celebrate their silver anniversary, The Art Guys are returning to the place where it all started to share some of their
most memorable works.
UH’s Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts will present “Nothing to It (An evening of itty bitty witty ditties)” at
8 p.m., May 3 in the university’s Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre. Tickets are $10. For tickets call 713-743-2929.
Included in this showcase of The Art Guys’ greatest hits are “Wrap Music,” a musical arrangement performed entirely
on industrial strength wrapping material and “Inverted Karaoke,” which features Galbreth and Massing singing songs
karaoke style without the audience being able to hear the music. Additionally, The Art Guys will unveil new “world
premieres never seen before by man nor beast” and numerous surprises throughout the evening.
“We just have this stuff to do and thought we may as well do it on stage with lots of lights,” Massing said.
The Art Guys have become known internationally for their balance of comical performances, public art and entertaining
exhibitions. The New York Times has described the duo as “a cross between Dada, David Letterman, John Cage and the
Smothers Brothers.” To learn more about The Art Guys, visit www.theartguys.com. HOUSTON’S ART GUYS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS OF EXHIBITS, PERFORMANCES WITH ‘EVENING OF ITTY BITTY WITTY DITTIES’ AT UH<b> ... more -
