Angry YouTube Users Boycott Website
Enraged YouTube users are protesting a controversial court ruling last week by uploading homemade "Viacom sucks" videos, and calling for mass boycotts of Viacom entertainment vehicles such as Paramount Pictures and MTV.
"Boycott Viacom! Fight back for your privacy rights!" proclaimed one video found by BetaNews on the YouTube site early this evening.
Don't let Viacom wipe [out] the Constitution on Independence Day!" urged another, which hadn't been taken down either by YouTube or the user who created it.
As we reported last week, a lot of YouTube users -- along with privacy advocacy groups purporting to speak on their behalf -- are very unhappy indeed over a ruling issued in US District Court for Southern New York last Wednesday. There, Judge Louis Stanton ordered Google to turn over to Viacom a log containing the user login IDs and IP addresses of sources from which videos were downloaded, together with details about those videos.

l'aggressione a Viacom

Verizon Drops Loren Feldman Like He’s Hot
Verizon has backed out of a deal with controversial video blogger Loren Feldman after just a week, after civil rights groups and bloggers protested Feldman’s work, which many consider racist.
Feldman is no stranger to controversy, but his “Technigga” character, in particular, strikes many as bigoted. In a video entitled Where Are The Black Tech Bloggers, Feldman creates a faux black tech vlog, largely based on black stereotypes.
“Verizon CEO Lowell C. McAdam needs to demonstrate that Verizon understands they should demonstrate corporate responsibility and will not tolerate racism, or bigotry,” said Najee Ali, of Project Islamic Hope, one of several groups that protested the deal. “The Verizon distribution deal with Feldman sends a horrible message that Verizon seeks to partner with racists like Feldman and that Verizon and CEO McAdam find nothing offensive with ‘TechNigga’.” Verizon has backed out of a deal with controversial video blogger Loren Feldman after just a week, after civil rights groups and blogg... more -

YouTube Users Vent Anger In Anti-Viacom Videos
The video-sharing site's users are calling for a boycott of the media giant following reports that it will view log data to prove its copyright case against Google.
Viacom has reassured the YouTube community that it only wants YouTube viewer log data to prove its copyright case against Google, but the YouTube community hasn't gotten the message. Rather, the video-sharing site's users have launched an expletive-laden counterattack, calling for a boycott of the media giant.
In the past week, the number of videos associated with the search keyword "Viacom" has increased by 871, more than 28.5%. Already on Monday, 341 new videos associated with the "Viacom" search keyword have been uploaded. (In a subsequent search, the number dropped to 320, suggesting that some anti-Viacom videos are being removed.) Mostly, the videos are critical of Viacom.
Among titles that can be reprinted on the InformationWeek Web site, user sentiment is evident: "Viacom is a Copyright Bully," "VIACOM VS YOU = BOYCOTT," and "Screw You, Viacom."
A Viacom spokesperson declined to comment. However, Viacom's publication of a statement on its corporate Web site promising to keep YouTube's data confidential shows that the company is aware of the sensitive nature of this issue.
"Viacom has been in discussions with Google to develop a framework to share this data," Viacom's statement says. "We are committed to a process that will not only comply with the court's confidentiality order, but that will also meet our commitment to the strongest possible Internet privacy protections."

Happy Run Like a Ninja Day!
Hey, folks, it's July 5th, so that means it's once again (or first to begin) National Run Like a Ninja Day. Time to show our support to our Ninja brethern and sisteren who provide us with so much entertainment at the cost of their own lives and limbs.
Run Like a Ninja Day is the bastard brainchild of Youtube Guru Andy McGaffican who created the concept as a shameless publicity stunt in order to get featured on Youtube and raise enough movie to send the entire cast of High School Musical into the sun.
