Bomb Blast Kills 18 in North Lebanon city (Updated)
Lebanon has been the most progessive and most Democratic Arab country in the Middle East. This has put the country on the radar for Islamic extremists.
A bomb blast targeting Lebanese soldiers killed at least 14 people in the northern city of Tripoli on Wednesday just hours before a landmark visit by President Michel Sleiman to Syria.
A child who was polishing shoes on the street was among the 14 dead, the official said, adding that nine of those killed and many of the wounded were soldiers.
The force of the blast blew the remains of some of the dead on to the roofs of nearby buildings. Lebanon has been the most progessive and most Democratic Arab country in the Middle East. This has put the country on the radar for Is... more -

Bin Laden urges Muslims to liberate Palestine
Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden -- in a blunt new message that coincides with Israel's 60th anniversary -- urged his followers to liberate Palestine, a terrorism analyst told CNN on Friday.
Bin Laden's audio message, released Thursday, told listeners that "liberating" Palestine should be the aim of every Muslim, according to terrorism analyst Laura Mansfield.
The message, which was played over a still image on jihadist Web sites, runs 9 minutes and 40 seconds. In it, Bin Laden decries characterization of Palestinian militant groups as terror organizations. He also says Israel has engaged in terror.
"As your low values show double standards in one issue, you call the Palestinian organizations terror organizations. They were punished and ignored.
"On the other hand, the Israelis were killing civilians from women and children, either through car bombs as in Haifa and elsewhere. Or what is worse than that, when the Zionist organizations massacred Palestinian villagers by scaring him, deporting them, and robbing their lands, what was your stance?"
Today, bin Laden says, "we are living the massacre of Gaza," the Palestinian-controlled territory. Israeli troops and Palestinian militants from Gaza have been fighting and Israeli security moves have had severe humanitarian consequences.
"It is happening in front of the eyes of the world. One and a half million individuals under the deadly bombing are dying slowly because of poor nutrition and scarcity of medicine," bin Laden said. "But your politicians require Egypt's ruler to provision the embargo on them to choke the weak and most of them are women and children."
Bin Laden emphasizes the fighting will continue against "the Israelis and their allies, to obtain justice, to be fair to the ones mistreated."
"We will not abandon one inch of Palestine, God willing, if there is one honest Muslim man left in this world," bin Laden said. Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden -- in a blunt new message that coincides with Israel's 60th anniversary -- urged his followers to... more -
Islamic militants kill British teacher and Kenyans in Somalia
It is being reported that a British school teacher, her two female Kenyan colleagues and a Somali headmaster have been killed by Islamist militants at a Somalian school, after suspected rebels attacked the central town of Beledweyne.
Motives for the killings are still unclear with a cousin of one of the deceased saying:
"We don't know why they were killed, but it happened when Islamist insurgents briefly took control of Beledweyne town last night."
Over the last year, insurgents have attacked government targets as a response to their 'ousting' from southern and central regions by Ethiopian-backed Somali troops. The violence has seen thousands killed with reports claiming hundreds of thousands have fleed from the region in a bid to escape the unrest. Islamic extremists targeting kids
Islamic extremist terrorist groups are now specifically targeting schoolchildren by using cartoon-laden web sites.
The picture shows a site called Al-Fateh (The Conqueror) which is maintained by Hamas, combines songs and stories with the promotion of suicide terrorism.
It has graphic images on the site, one of which shows a decapitated woman who was a suicide bomber, as well as praising her for killing two policemen and wounding 17 innocent bystanders in an attack on Jerusalem, claiming she has been rewarded in paradise.
There are also reports that such terrorist groups are using online games to gain both new support and recruits, a tactic that appears to be succeeding everywhere in the Islamic world except Iraq.
