Junk collector finds 1930s depression-era bills worth $50 million
An estate clean-up company made a bizarre find whilst clearing out an old deli, the Lido, in Vancouver. Under a rug, workers found a thousand dollars in 1930s money, followed by the discovery of a paper bag in a closet filled with $400,000, also dating from the depression era.
Not much is known about the owner of the apartment, an old lady named Margeret Rothweiler, who lived there since the 1940s before dying in February. Five dollar bill gets a 'Joan Rivers'-like facelift
Abraham Lincoln is getting a little color in his cheeks. New $5 bills bearing the gaunt visage of the nation's 16th president — but with some touches of color added — are making their way to banks and cash registers near you.
The bill goes into circulation Thursday. That's when the Federal Reserve, the supplier of the nation's cash, starts shipping the bills to banks, which send them to businesses and eventually into the hands of people in this country and beyond.
