The Black Billion Dollar Man (No, he didn't play a sport...)
Far too often African-American history lessons are reduced to the same laundry list of black “firsts” only taught in February. Breaking The Silence Of A Secret POW Camp
About two years ago, National Park Service employees stumbled upon a fascinating and largely untold piece of American history.
It involves a secret World War II interrogation camp at Fort Hunt, Va., not far from the Pentagon. During and right after the war, thousands of top German prisoners were questioned there about troop movements and scientific advances.
Soldiers at the site also prepared special "care packages" for American POWs that they sent overseas. They included maps, radios and other escape tools.
Many of the camp's records were destroyed right after the war, and those who worked there were sworn to secrecy. Many veterans never spoke about it, even to family and friends, although the operation has been gradually declassified over the past two decades.
The National Park Service, which now runs Fort Hunt Park, has been trying to piece together the story of the interrogation facility — code-named P.O. Box 1142 during the war.... Saving Port Gibson
The town of Port Gibson, Mississippi is in need of your help. Declared "too beautiful to burn" by Ulysses S. Grant during the notoriously destructive Vicksburg Campaign of 1863, Port Gibson has become one of the most historically significant towns in the South. Now, a highway expansion project and almost twenty years of indecision and infighting threaten to transform Church Street, a lovely, tree-lined avenue, into a major interstate. Meet a few locals determined to save this national treasure.
Help unite the community around an Eastern bypass!

Historian pleads guilty to stealing Lincoln letter
A U.S. historian pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a federal charge stemming from stealing letters penned by former U.S. Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Edward Renehan, 51, admitted stealing a March 1, 1840, letter written by Lincoln and two by Washington, one written on August 9, 1791 and one written and signed on December 29, 1778.
Renehan later sold them to a New York gallery for $97,000, according the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan.
Renehan, who has written six books including one on the Kennedys, stole the letters from the Theodore Roosevelt Association, a New York-based historical and cultural association where he had been a director.
He pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen property and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Renehan had suffered from bipolar disorder that was undiagnosed during 2005 and 2006 at the time of the thefts, his lawyer Peter Brill said. A U.S. historian pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a federal charge stemming from stealing letters penned by former U.S. Presidents George ... more -

Withheld In Full - Episode 1: "Morley V.CIA"
From the filmmaker of "The Fourteen Minute Gap" comes the first in series of short documentaries from the Mary Ferrell Foundation's MFF Productions, "Withheld In Full."
A decade-long investigative journey led to a still-pending lawsuit by former Washington Post reporter Jefferson Morley against the CIA. At the center of this lawsuit was the CIA's stonewalling of Morley's investigation of George Joannides, a charismatic career CIA officer, who in 1963 was the case officer for the DRE, a Cuban exile group who had numerous encounters with Lee Harvey Oswald in the months prior to the assassination of John F. Kennedy - and who, in 1978, was brought out of retirement by the CIA to compromise the investigation of the House Select Committee on Assassinations.
For more information, including audio interviews, court documents, and a collection of Morley's writings and relevant primary resource material, please visit

This Land
Lakota Indian Nation secede from the United States by declaring themselves as a sovereign nation on December 20, 2007, and may pose as our own "Gaza/West Bank" issue with threats of liens against property ownership within the declared territories of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana.
Although it may be argued that those said properties are illegal in the first place, those homesteaders may have to give up their own generational settlements. If we, as Americans, support their declaration and aid in a peaceful process of helping transition their newly declared sovereignty, we can set an example as to how we participate in foreign relations by first fixing our own mistakes here at home.
Furthermore, it will be interesting to follow their own policies with Relations, Environment, and Trade. This is truly exciting and deserve further thought and discussion amongst all Americans and international communities in solidarity alike.
