    • Our Founding Fathers On Liberty and Tyranny

To me this is what the Fourth of July is all about. Remembering the men who sacrificed all they had to take the journey to a more perfect union... a free union. We don't truly have that today, and the main reason why is because we as a people have to really want it. I question now if we really do, and that is sad. These words of wisdom and warning from men who though flawed were brilliant and who knew something themselves about slavery of the mind and soul are words to be reflected on. As John Adams said, "Liberty once lost, is lost forever." We as a people are allowing liberty to slip away as we distract ourselves and lose our focus on these words. How I wish we had men of such courage and brilliance as these to once again point us in the right direction. However, their words can be the inspiration we need to now do that. The question is: will we? To me this is what the Fourth of July is all about. Remembering the men who sacrificed all they had to take the journey to a more perf... more

    • The Great Janet McCloud - Indigenous Fishing Rights Activist

The Great Janet McCloud PDF Print E-mail
Janet McCloud traveled the continent like her ancestor Chief Seattle with salmon, dentalium, abalone, dried huckleberries and meat. She shared the traditions in the great wealth of the Northwest (United States) bestowed upon her Tulalip and Nisqually peoples by the Great Mystery, the Creator. Janet always said that our aboriginal rights were given to us by the Creator and could not be taken away by other men (or women.) It is Native North Americans who gave rights to non-Natives by making treaties. Janet represented the Northwest fishing rights struggle as no one has since. • Sacred Geometry - Chief Seattle letter to U.S. President Frankin Pierce - 1852

      Sacred Geometry

Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the Earth is our Mother? What befalls the Earth befalls all of the Sons of Earth.

This we know: the Earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the Earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. What ever he does to the web he does to himself.

Chief Seattle in a letter to
      President Franklin Pierce
      1852

    • We All Human

I am sharing the story of my young friends from Liberia who I met a year ago. They fled their country because of the violent civil war, and now their new home is Oakland, California. During this year as we have grown close, they have told me so many disturbing truths about how they are treated in their new community, which is a predominantly African American neighborhood. I always assumed that they would at least be welcomed and maybe even embraced by their black neighbors because of some shared connection. I was very wrong. But the reason I ask my friends to tell their own story is that they are angels of light and hope in the form of kids. They have somehow found their own way to rise above the abuses and make friends by being true to themselves and to their culture. My hope is that their story might spread the wisdom these young kids carry about how all people should treat each other. I am sharing the story of my young friends from Liberia who I met a year ago. • Enjoy life while you can

Climate science maverick James Lovelock believes catastrophe is inevitable, carbon offsetting is a joke and ethical living a scam. So what would he do?

I found this part of the article an interesting snap shot:
"Humanity is in a period exactly like 1938-9, he explains, when "we all knew something terrible was going to happen, but didn't know what to do about it". But once the second world war was under way, "everyone got excited, they loved the things they could do, it was one long holiday ... so when I think of the impending crisis now, I think in those terms. A sense of purpose - that's what people want."

There are some good points in what he says. ... The part about people not wanting to change. I think he is a bit of a cranky old man and I will keep my hope and faith that we can change but what do you think?

There are many ways of looking at our world and this is one. Linguistics. I made this short video introducing some "highlights" in the coming year. These are excerpts from the notes of George Ure. Since early 2001 a former big software company fellow did a massive SQL databases and came up with the concept of short and long-term values to language use. As these language patterns drift around over time, there may be some useful information about the future.
