Food for thought more than an empty saying
Intellectual work -- such as reading, writing or working on a computer -- prompts people to overeat and that might be a cause of obesity, a new university study suggests. Stomach bug treatment for cancer
Eradicating a common bug in people with stomach cancer can prevent the disease from recurring, research suggests.
Helicobacter pylori, proved to be the cause of most stomach ulcers, has also been linked with stomach cancer. In a study of 550 people who had stomach cancer surgery, antibiotics which killed the bug cut the risk of a second cancer developing by two-thirds. There will now be a trial of 56,000 British people to see if killing the bacterium stops the cancer developing. H. pylori lives in the stomach, and accounts for up to 90% of duodenal ulcers and up to 80% of gastric ulcers.
It was famously linked with stomach ulcers by two Australian researchers - one of whom deliberately infected himself to prove the theory - who were awarded the Nobel prize for their discovery in 2005. The World Health Organisation also classes the bacterium as a leading cause of stomach cancer.

Girl's twin found inside her stomach
A nine-year-old girl who went to hospital suffering from stomach pains was found to be carrying her embryonic twin, doctors in central Greece said Thursday.
Doctors at Larissa General Hospital examined the girl and surgically removed a growth they later discovered was an embryo about six centimeters (more than two inches) long.
"They could see on the right side that her belly was swollen, but they couldn't suspect that this tumor would hide an embryo," hospital director Iakovos Brouskelis said.
The girl has made a full recovery, he said.
Andreas Markou, head of the hospital's pediatric department, said the embryo was a formed fetus with a head, hair and eyes, but no brain or umbilical cord.
Markou said cases where one of a set of twins absorbs the other in the womb occur in one of 500,000 live births.

My stomach is rich I tell you, rich!
After a severely anemic woman suffering kidney failure was admitted to a Tennessee hospital, feeling nauseous and weak, doctors presumed that her friend claiming she had 'swallowed some coins' would be the likelist cause.
After some 'investigatory proceedures' to find out if her friend's claims were right, the doctors stumbled on the cause; five hundred and eighty-five pennies, seventeen nickels, twelve dimes, eight quarters, one Deutsche mark, three screws, and a rock all wedged in her intestine, no doubt causing horrible feelings of always needing to go to the toilet.
I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but that's quite a lot of pennies though... After a severely anemic woman suffering kidney failure was admitted to a Tennessee hospital, feeling nauseous and weak, doctors presu... more
