    • LL Cool J calling it a day with Exit 13?

I like when experienced, decent rappers call it quits (especially if they keep it that way) because it opens the door for younger rappers with very important messages such as, "I have lots of money, money, money, money, money, yeah dis necklace is my necklace I bought it with money, money, money, money," and "Look at yo ass, yo ass so fine, I like to take you out, no, take you from behind." • LL Cool J Brings Legends, Chin Checks Jay-Z On Exit 13

LL Cool J is finally set to drop his long awaited Def Jam swan song titled Exit 13 on September 9th. While his previous endeavors were heavy on content catered towards the opposite sex, Exit 13 will find LL swapping the baby oil for the grit and grime reminiscent of the young lion who couldn’t live without his radio - for the most part.

For LL, this album was two years in the making.

"On my last couple of albums I was off. I wasn't analyzing what I was doing exactly,” he confessed to Billboard. “I was making movies and music, but I couldn't play two sports at the same time. I turned down eight movies this time around. It was fulfilling for me especially since it's my last album under contract. I just couldn't jerk myself or my culture."

    • LL Cool J Takes On Politics, President Bush

For the last couple years LL Cool J was known more for taking shots at the president of his label than the President of the United States. Having set aside is disdain for Jay-Z, LL is taking a rare political stance on at least one of the tracks from his upcoming album Exit 13. During a recent listening party LL explained his reasoning for recording "Mr. President."

"It's all about what I'd like to ask [him]," LL tells the New York Daily News. "Tell me how to set up [a meeting] with him, and I would be there in a heartbeat."

    • LL Cool J Talks "Exit 13" And Staying With Def Jam?

LL Cool J has not had a platinum-selling album in nearly ten years, and he says he has himself to blame. "With all my television and film projects, the quality level of my recent albums has suffered," LL said, while speaking with Rolling Stone. "This is a record that I actually, honestly believe from the deepest part of my soul, I would buy — every record you make is not like that."

"Mr. Smith" credits his lyrical improvement to the Hollywood writer's strike, which gave him more time to focus on music. He estimates that he threw away two full albums worth of material from his original version of the forthcoming Exit 13. Fellow Queens native 50 Cent will likely lend his support, and LL says the album showcases "a whole other level of dedication, commitment, creativity." Wyclef Jean, Lil Kim, Jim Jones, KRS-One, Method Man and Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora are all slated to be featured.
