    • Lazy painters paint sock tied to railing instead of removing it

Blackpool town council recently hired some contractors to repaint the railings over the North Promenade. Apparently the contractors found a sock inexplicably tied to the railings and, rather than remove it, decided simply to paint over it.

This is one of those bizarre, and oddly ideosyncratically British, stories where I don't really know whether to laugh or bang my head on my keyboard.

I dunno, I bet if a Turner Prize winner did it it'd be modern art...

More intruigingly, I want to know why a sock was tied to the railings in the first place - could it have been a masonic flag? Or maybe a deposit place for druggies? The potential stories are limitless...

The weirdest part of all of this is that 20 years ago, when Frank and his family moved into their house in the British resort town of Blackpool, they were plagued by paranormal behavior. Doors were slammed, bedclothes pulled off the kids while they slept, taps were turned on—and all this was put down to a malevolent presence called "The Thing."

    • Baby born to near-death anorexic girl

Five years ago, weighing just 5st 1lb, Hayley Wilde was told by doctors she had only days left to live.
So sick her hair fell out, the skeletal teenager, who had suffered from anorexia since she was 11, was hospitalised and brought back from the brink.
But it was not the end.
Over the next three-and-a-half years, the teenager from Blackpool was hospitalised five times.
At her lowest ebb, she was fed through an intravenous tube. In 2005, she spent just seven weeks out of hospital.
But in March this year, Hayley - now 20 - defied the odds by giving birth to a healthy baby boy.

    • Rolling Stones return

Back in the sixties riots were questionable behaviour in society, but now it could happen at a Take That concert, so quite rightly they should let them back in.

Continuing the ban would have been ridiculous when we have seen Ozzy Osbourne bite off a bats head on stage (fake or not, it was pretty disturbing), also members of the public will pass water in to a bottle and throw it on stage, let alone being actively encouraged to divide and run at each other.

All in all I think it is good they are allowed back in, not just because of their silly ban but because they are god damn fabulous!

    • 'hexapus' found in Britain

British marine experts have found what they claim is a world first -- a six-legged octopus, or "hexapus," whom they have christened Henry.

The unique sea creature, which has two limbs fewer than a normal octopus, is believed to be the result of a birth defect rather than an accident, say his keepers at the Blackpool Sea Life Centre in northwest England.
