Palin Questions McCain Decision to Not Hit Obama on Wright
Palin Questions McCain Decision to Not Hit Obama on Wright
New York Times columnist William Kristol asked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, if the campaign is hitting Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for his connections to William Ayers, why wouldn't they go after his much closer connection to Rev. Jeremiah Wright?
"To tell you the truth, Bill, I don’t know why that association isn’t discussed more," Palin said,
"because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country, and to have sat in the pews for 20 years and listened to that —with, I don’t know, a sense of condoning it, I guess, because he didn’t get up and leave — to me, that does say something about character. But, you know, I guess that would be a John McCain call on whether he wants to bring that up."
This comes after Palin publicly questioned another McCain campaign decision, to stop trying to full compete in Michigan.
"I want to get back to Michigan, and I want to try," Palin told Fox News' Carl Cameron. "Todd and I, we’d be happy to get back to Michigan. We’d be so happy to speak to the people there in Michigan who are hurting."

Wright issue will haunt conservative media elite
Now that Sen. Barack Obama has denounced his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, many of his critics, especially those who call themselves conservative, are happy he has put the dashiki-wearing, American-criticizing former Marine in his place.
See, these same voices, many that are allegedly Christian, have reacted with glee by calling Wright a prophet of hate and a race baiter.
They hold themselves up to be so concerned about their fellow brother and sister, yet if you looked at their personal lives, I doubt you'd find many with African-American friends and associates (and I doubt their staffs are the most diverse in the world, but that's another story).
But be careful what you ask for.
Now that Wright has set the so-called standard for what isn't acceptable for religious leaders, let's see these same critics take their own kind to task for making absolutely outlandish comments. Abortion Group Robo attacks Obama!
The anti-choice group National Right to Life has launched a series of robocalls urging people in Indiana to "vote against Barack Obama" in Tuesday's primary. Here's the script of the call (or listen to audio):
Hello, this is National Right to Life PAC, asking you to vote against Barack Obama in tomorrow's primary election.
Barack Obama has said that his first act as President would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, which would enshrine abortion on demand into federal law and would require tax funding of abortion. This bill would legalize partial birth abortion again.
Barack Obama even voted against saving the lives of babies who survive late term abortion.
You can vote in either party's primary. If you vote in the Democratic primary, please do not vote for Barack Obama.
Obama supporter and former Rep. Tim Roemer, an opponent of abortion rights, released a statement on the calls -- you can read it below. Also, as Politico's Ben Smith notes, Indiana has extremely strict anti-robocall laws, so these calls (apparently the first of their kind from any group in the state this cycle) may very well be illegal. Why Oprah Left Rev. Wright
Reverend Jeremiah Wright has become a household name due to his association with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. However, Obama's not the only famous figure to attend Wright's church. Oprah was a member of Trinity church, where Wright preached, from 1984-1986, and she continued to attend off and on through the early 1990s. Then she stopped, and as Newsweek reports in its latest issue, Wright himself was a major reason:
According to two sources, Winfrey was never comfortable with the tone of Wright's more incendiary sermons, which she knew had the power to damage her standing as America's favorite daytime talk-show host. "Oprah is a businesswoman, first and foremost," said one longtime friend, who requested anonymity when discussing Winfrey's personal sentiments. "She's always been aware that her audience is very mainstream, and doing anything to offend them just wouldn't be smart. She's been around black churches all her life, so Reverend Wright's anger-filled message didn't surprise her. But it just wasn't what she was looking for in a church." Oprah's decision to distance herself came as a surprise to Wright, who told Christianity Today in 2002 that when he would "run into her socially ... she would say, 'Here's my pastor!' " (Winfrey declined to comment. A Harpo Productions spokesperson would not confirm her reasons for leaving the church.)
But Winfrey also had spiritual reasons for the parting. In conversations at the time with a former business associate, who also asked for anonymity, Winfrey cited her fatigue with organized religion and a desire to be involved with a more inclusive ministry. In time, she found one: her own. "There is the Church of Oprah now," said her longtime friend, with a laugh. "She has her own following." Video of Hillary's appearance on Bill O'Reilly's show!
I link, you decide.
Interesting excerpt:
O'Reilly: "Can you believe this Rev. Wright guy? Can you believe this guy?"
Hillary: "Well, I'm going to leave it up to voters to decide."
O'Reilly: "Well, what do you think as an American?"
Hillary: "Well, what I said when I was asked directly is that I would not have stayed in the church.
O'Reilly: "You're an American citizen, I'm an American citizen, He's an American citizen, Rev. Wright. What do you think when you hear a fellow American citizen say that kind of stuff about America."
Hillary: "Well, I take offense. I think it's offensive and outrageous. I'm going to express my opinion, others can express theirs. It is part of just, you know, an atmosphere we're in today."

My favorite has got to be:
O'Reilly: "Can you believe this Rev. Wright guy? Can you believe this guy?"
Hillary: "Well, I'm going to leave it up to voters to decide."
Oh. I didn't realize Rev. Wright was running as Obama's Vice President. Thanks for making the connection Hillary. Reminds me of classic old-school Bush when he would say, "We were attacked on 9/11 and we must respond. Saddam is a bad man and we're invading!"

Has Rev. 'God Damn America' damned Obama's campaign?
For Senator Obama, the re-emergence of Rev. Wright has been devastating. The senator has been trying desperately to bolster his standing with skeptical and even hostile white working-class voters. When the story line of the campaign shifts almost entirely to the race-in-your-face antics of someone like Mr. Wright, Mr. Obama’s chances can only suffer.
In an appearance before the Detroit N.A.A.C.P., Mr. Wright mocked the regional dialects of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.
Smiling, cracking corny jokes, mugging it up for the cameras — this reverend is never going away. He’s found himself a national platform, and he’s loving it.
The question that cries out for an answer from Mr. Wright is why — if he is so passionately committed to liberating and empowering blacks — does he seem so insistent on wrecking the campaign of the only African-American ever to have had a legitimate shot at the presidency. For Senator Obama, the re-emergence of Rev. Wright has been devastating. The senator has been trying desperately to bolster his standi... more -

More from Rev. Jeremiah Wright
"For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you've got five million blacks who are out of work," he said. "For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you've got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condoskeeza [sic] Rice, you've got one million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap-blazing hips, playing on a course that discriminates against women. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course."
Tiger Woods needs to get beat? Beat on the golf course, ha! not likely, the man is playing like a god among men and hopefully Rev. Wright isn't wishing Tiger to get beaten physically...plus I've never been on a golf course, is it cause I'm Spanish or poor, I'm thinking its cause I'm poor, which really sucks, oh well poor me. Poll: 56% OF AMERICANS NOW LESS LIKELY TO VOTE FOR OBAMA!
In recent days, Obama has also lost ground to John McCain in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.
Most voters, 56%, said Rev. Wright’s comments made them less likely to vote for Obama. That figure includes 44% of Democrats. Just 11% of voters say they are more likely to vote for Obama because of Wright’s comments. Mr. Wright is the controversial minister of Obama's church and was an official advisor to Obama until videos of his preaching made their way onto youtube and into the news.
However, among African-Americans, 29% said Wright’s comments made them more likely to support Obama. Just 18% said the opposite while 50% said Wright’s comments would have no impact.
Overall, voters are evenly divided as to whether Obama should resign his membership in the Church—42% say that he should while 40% disagree. White voters, by a 46% to 33% margin, say that Obama should leave the Church. African-American voters, by a 68% to 16% margin, say he should not. Wright retired last month as Pastor of the Church.

Barack Obama responds to his pastor problem
"The pastor of my church, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who recently preached his last sermon and is in the process of retiring, has touched off a firestorm over the last few days. He's drawn attention as the result of some inflammatory and appalling remarks he made about our country, our politics, and my political opponents.
Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue."
