Riddle Me This...
Like it or not, believe it or not racism is a big part of this political campaign. When racism is discussed people tend to think of overt racism, as if someone used a slur or some obvious stereotype. But what is actually rampant is tacit racism. Don't think so, then consider the following and decide for yourself.
Subject: How Racism Works
How Racism Works
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to?
What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5*?
* The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers wou ld be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.
PS: What if Barack Obama had an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter....
You are The Boss... which team would you hire?

A Little More (Than) Ground Noise & Static
In November, one or the other of the corporate candidates will win, and then, as always, it will be what the people do, not the politicians, that counts.
A video report on the protests that occurred in connection with the Democrat and Republican National Conventions, Ground Noise & Static is a manifesto. We went to Denver and St. Paul to take the pulse of the movement. Corporate media would cover the platitudes and posturing of the politicians, we were interested in something else, a story hidden in plain sight, captured in the now-classic street chant, “This is what democracy looks like.” In November, one or the other of the corporate candidates will win, and then, as always, it will be what the people do, not the politi... more -

The Ladies Love the Maverick: The Cindy McCain Luncheon
Ah, now that things are really nasty, I thought it might be nice to reflect back on the Salad Days of the McCain campaign.
The star studded Cindy McCain luncheon at the RNC with Jon Voigt, Clay Walker, Elisabeth Haselbeck of The View, erstwhile spokesperson Carly Fiorina, first dude Tod Palin and of course, the ever charming Cindy McCain. He Told Us to Go Shopping. Now the Bill Is Due.
It's widely thought that the biggest gamble President Bush ever took was deciding to invade Iraq in 2003. It wasn't. His riskiest move was actually one made right after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks when he chose not to mobilize the country or summon his fellow citizens to any wartime economic sacrifice. Bush tried to remake the world on the cheap, and as the bill grew larger, he still refused to ask Americans to pay up. During this past week, that gamble collapsed, leaving the rest of us to sort through the wreckage. Lawsuit seeks to preserve Palin e-mails
A critic of Gov. Sarah Palin is suing to try to force preservation of any government-related e-mails that Palin sent from private accounts.
Andree McLeod, a former state worker, filed the lawsuit against Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, in Anchorage on Thursday. Palin's gubernatorial spokeswoman, Sharon Leighow, said Saturday she could not comment on pending litigation.
Palin's e-mail account with Yahoo Inc. was compromised last month by a hacker who revealed as evidence a few inconsequential personal messages she has received since John McCain selected her as his running mate.
Palin used "gov.sarah" in one of the Yahoo e-mail addresses she sometimes used to conduct state business. The hacker targeted her separate "gov.palin" account. Both have been shut down.
The hacking of Palin's private account is significant because Palin has sometimes used private e-mail accounts to conduct state business. Previously disclosed e-mails indicate her administration embraced Yahoo accounts as an alternative to government e-mail, which could possibly be released to the public under Alaska's Open Records Act.
"Palin's decision to conduct state business in such an unprofessional and secretive manner suggests that her promise to have an ethical, open, honest and transparent administration is pure bogus," McLeod said in a statement Saturday.
"Equally troubling is the fact that most of Palin's private e-mail accounts have recently been shut down," she said. "I'm seeking the court's help by requesting them to tell the governor to obey Alaska's public record laws."
McLeod also has submitted an open records request with the state of Alaska seeking copies from Palin's private e-mail accounts as well as one belonging to her husband, Todd. The Associated Press has submitted similar requests.
In August, McLeod filed an ethics complaint with the attorney general's office against Palin and members of her staff, accusing them of giving a state job to a man who held a fundraiser for Palin.
McLeod has said she worked for the state at various times over decades, the last time after an appointment by then-Gov. Frank Murkowski, whom Palin defeated in the GOP primary in 2006. Tom Morello Reveals What Really Happened At The Conventions!
This is explosive stuff.....
Never has there been a time when Americans needed to rage more against the machine. As we weather a perfect storm of a Great Depression-like financial meltdown, a war that's more costly (in so many ways) than Vietnam, and daily scandals that make Watergate look like a Boy Scout prank, guitarist, singer and songwriter Tom Morello is raging hard, on stage, on CD, and on the streets, where he's repeatedly risked his own life and liberty fighting what he believes are the true forces of evil.
A Harvard Political Science graduate, Morello has seen democracy in action both as an insider, while working for a United States senator, and on the frontlines. He faced a pitched battle with 700 riot police while participating in protests outside the Pepsi Center in Denver during the recent Democratic National Convention and days later was threatened with arrest while attempting to perform with his band at a rally on the Capital Lawn in St. Paul during the Republican National Convention. Despite skirmishes with the authorities at both events, Morello refused to be silenced.

"Terror" Film Violating Election Laws?
Is front group for Israeli organization trying to influence November election?
The Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim advocacy group with an office in Southfield, Mich., has asked the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) to investigate whether the distributor of millions of copies of an anti-terrorism DVD is a front for right-wing Israel-based groups trying to help Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
If so, that could be a violation of campaign law, since foreign nations are not allowed to attempt to influence American elections. Is front group for Israeli organization trying to influence November election? ... more -

Letterman: McCain made me feel 'like an ugly date'
David Letterman was furious when Senator John McCain canceled an appearance on the Late Show at the last moment, claiming he had to deal with the economic crisis, but instead continued making other appearances in New York until the next morning.
After complaining loudly to fill-in guest Keith Olbermann on Wednesday night's show, Letterman was still slamming McCain on Thursday. "See these chairs right here?" Letterman asked his audience, pointing to some empty seats. "That's because we like to have folks come out and visit. And one of the people who was going to come and visit with us last night was Senator John McCain -- what a tremendous hero ... and a tremendous role-model -- and he was supposed to be on the show."
"So at the last minute he calls up," Letterman continued, "and he says, 'Ah, I can't make it. ... The economy is about to crater.' ... He says, 'I have to race back to Washington, DC.' ... Right away, I say, 'Whatever you need to do' -- because am I going to be the reason people are standing in breadlines?"
Letterman explained that he was initially understanding when he found out that McCain had not yet left New York but was in an interview with Katie Couric, because "that's news and this is nonsense," but he was far more upset when "we find out today, he didn't really leave until this morning."
Letterman continued, "You can see, 24 hours ago, I felt like a patriot. I felt like I was helping out. ... And now, I'm just feeling like an ugly date. ... I feel used. I feel cheap. I feel sullied."
"It's like you're getting a call from Batman," Letterman concluded. "'Love to talk, got to go, Dave. Gotham is about to go belly-up.' ... Well no, it's like he stopped off, had a facial." Paraguay's President Blows Off Palin
Apparently not everyone wants to have their photograph taken with Sarah Palin.
Paraguay President Fernando Lugo, while attending both the UN General Assembly meetings and the Clinton Global Initiative, shared with friends over dinner some of the other meetings he had been having in New York. After enumerating the various heads of state he'd met with, the room went silent and then laughed a bit when he confided that he was approached about meeting with GOP Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
President Lugo said he turned the meeting down.
The 57-year-old left-leaning former Catholic bishop known locally as "bishop of the poor," was elected to office in April. His swearing in marked the first time in Paraguay's history since the country gained independence that an opposition party turned over power peacefully to a candidate elected from the other party. Lugo has also refused his presidential salary, saying it "belongs to more humble people." He joined the priesthood in 1977 and was ordained a bishop in 1994 before resigning in 2006 to run for office. Apparently not everyone wants to have their photograph taken with Sarah Palin. ... more -
Nader & Barr offer to fill McCain’s debate slot
With John McCain calling to cancel Friday’s presidential debate and the host university pressing forward with preparations, two third party candidates have offered to step in so the show can go on.
Barack Obama has dismissed McCain’s call to delay Friday’s debate, but that didn’t stop independent candidate Ralph Nader and the Libertarian Party’s Bob Barr from contacting the scheduled host, Jim Lehrer, and offering themselves as stand-ins. “There are two other candidates that cover a wide girth of real estate across the political spectrum who have fresh approaches on how to deal with the economic challenges facing our country,” a spokesman wrote on behalf of Nader and Barr.
Both candidates have seized on the latest Wall Street crisis and the proposed $700 billion rescue plan as evidence of their prescience. “I told you so,” scolded Barr in one recent release, criticizing the series of bailouts from the Bush administration and accusing McCain of betraying the free market principles that once defined the GOP.
Nader was on Capitol Hill Tuesday criticizing the influence of big business in government – what he calls “the corporate fascism dominating Washington.” He called the recent exchanges before the congressional committees “stampede hearings” meant to scare members of Congress into ceding their constitutional authority. “Look at the dictatorial demand by Bush and Paulson for total authority, total immunity, and zero judicial review. This is fascism — to bail out Wall Street.”
After decades of calling for greater oversight of financial markets, holding conferences to voice concerns about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and – as recently as July – warning that the federal government’s bank insurance fund could be insufficient, the current financial crisis is bittersweet vindication for Nader. “You can be right and right and right,” he said. “If you’re right in sports prediction, if you’re right in business prediction, you get all kinds of awards. We don’t even get quoted.” With John McCain calling to cancel Friday’s presidential debate and the host university pressing forward with preparations, two third ... more -
Dodd says White House Meeting was a Disaster
Sen. Chris Dodd, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, said Thursday that bipartisan meeting with President Bush at the White House on the mortgage rescue plan was nothing short of a disaster.
Dodd described a meeting in which Democrats were blindsided by a new core mortgage proposal from House Republicans, with the tacit backing of Republican presidential candidate John McCain. "I am not going to sign on to something I just saw this afternoon," he said. Dodd said Republicans and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson had to decide what they wanted to support.
The whole meeting "looked like a rescue plan for John McCain," Dodd said. He said he was simply going to pretend that the meeting had never happened. Sen. Chris Dodd, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, said Thursday that bipartisan meeting with President Bush at the Wh... more
